The Forbidden Woods is such an awesome area. The level design in this game in general is superb.

Is Hunter Axe a viable weapon in the end game? I would love to keep using and upgrading it.

Would you say that the quality is maintained this time around? That was my only issue with DS1.
The quality is far more consistent in this game than in previous Souls game. There is no "bad" area in the game. Every area is designed very well and looks great with a shit ton of atmosphere.

And yea the difficulty in general is regressive. Game is harder at the front but gets easier over time.

uhm, you get the short ritual root chalice from Hintertomb dungeons but which dungeon exactly and from what boss/layer? Is it random or it's always a specific dungeon in which you find the item.

It's at the end of the fixed depth 3 one iirc. If you keep moving through the Hintertombs ignoring the root dungeons you'll get it.

is so fucked up. I feel bad everytime I think about it. Well done, FROM. Didn't feel for NPCs like that since Dark Souls' Fair Lady.

On the gameplay side, does anyone feel like the difficulty is regressive?
Near endgame-spoilers:
Father Gascoigne and Amelia both were harder than any boss outside of the Vicuous Spider. Every other boss seems to give you enough breathing room to heal up, while Transformed Gascoigne and Amelia just wreck your shit constantly without seeming to have a stamina bar. Like, I wouldn't complain if they were mid-way bosses, but right at the start? Followed by basically one-shot bosses like BSB, Witches, Reborn One, Micalosh? Even Amygdala is easier.
Doesn't have anything to do with my skill level either, since I've beat every other Souls before.

I agree but I think part of it is player skill. I've noticed the same but the same has occurred for me in all the past Souls games, barring a weird spike here and there.

You generally get into the groove of things.

Do Chalice Dungeons ever have anything besides some gems and Chalice Dungeon materials? I've been scouring for treasure chests even after unlocking the gate, but I'm kinda thinking I should just start going straight to the boss instead.

Never tried Demon Souls or Dark Souls and I AM IN LOVE with Bloodborne.

Amazing so far and so difficult, but the good kind of difficult. :D

To say that I miss summon signs would be an understatement. Love ringing the beckoning bell and then watching the fog appear and disappear for 10-15 minutes while I wait for a summon to actually work.

Any reason to not kill the old guy in Byrgenwerth that just says "Aaaaaaaaaahhhh" over and over again?

Anyone?

Awe yiss, second boss down, what a fucker, everything was fine and dandy until he went down to 1/5th health and then proceeded to wreck my shit.

Anyone?

So far, we haven't found a reason to
keep him alive. He drops a p good rune along with it, too.

Yeah it is

Yeah, uncanny version of some weapons, plus some exclusive ones I think.

This game shares a lot of things in common with demons souls, if you like that game then you'll love this. The atmosphere is incredible

Awesome. Only up to Old Yarnham so far so I need to press on.

Anyone want to borrow my wife and kids for a few days?

I made a friend lol.

Definitely agree about the "tightness" of areas - so far nothing mediocre or even slightly forgettable, 100% amazing. The difficulty thing, I don't know... I noticed a major difficulty spike when I got to
Yahar'gul (the part with the bell maidens) and the skeleton blobs that drag the boxes behind them
. Shit was super hard.

My mind was blown when I found a shortcut take me back to the very beginning of the game.
Like how is that even possible?

Does the difficulty noticeably scale in co-op?

I almost feel guilty ringing my bell when I get to new areas, because inviting guests into my world just turns the new areas that would give me goosebumps into what feels like a co-op action brawler. Like, it's not even fair.

That said, I've only cleared through the first two optional areas in co-op; hopefully future areas won't be as easy.

You'll probably see loads of messages on the ground just before it. There's also a shortcut near the boss so you can go back to spend your echoes. And the boss is pretty easy anyway.

is the shortcut the one that leads back to the
mill
? if so I just found it, and on the
mill
I also found
some guy that really looked like he was eating someone, maybe it wasnt the best idea to send him to the church lol, and I found the canon too, cant use tho only have 25STR

but the
mill
is still a bit far from the lantern if I remember isnt it?

This game... (side quest? spoilers ahead)
I was testing combos in the area leading to the Grand Cathedral, when this creature appeared out of a red portal and two shot me with its linen bag like weapon. After a brief cutscene, I'm now in some kind of church with the creepiest statue sitting in front of the bonfire.

I almost killed the creature that came out of the portal, anyone knows if I missed a good item by getting killed? The lore this place is hinting at is making me excited to see where this game is going with its story.

Hats off to the creators, I'm genuinely unnerved by what just happened. Extremely unexpected.

How do you keep the mobs in
hidden village
from
respawning
? Special weapon?

Find and kill the bell maiden in each area. Look for a gaunt, grey woman in black robes ringing a bell. BUM RUSH her, she is very weak. Kill her and the enemies weaken greatly, as well as stop respawning. She does respawn though (unlike the necromancers in DS1) so this must be done every run.

Area to the right of the Grand Cathedral question:

So I went there with the tonsil stone, got teleportated to the school, made my way through the nightmare frontier and then killed Amygdala. But when I go back to the right of the Cathedral to open the door Amygdala picks me up and sends me back to the school. I'm confused because I beat him in the frontier, do I fight him again at some later point? I don't care about spoilers.

walking around wiht 80k terrified that im going to run into the boss unprepared. just tell me, is the boss area in
forbiden woods
"obvious"?

Sort of.
you have to go through the small river that has a giant pig In the way. As you go further down there are some slow monsters in the water and finally some land with two bonfires and another pig. After you get past the second pig is a road that splits in two: to the right is a medusa guy and a ledge that leads back to the forbidden forest and to the left is the boss.
There were plenty of notes just before that should clue you.

I love how every area is like an Escher painting with multiple shortcuts. Finding those is far more satisfying than beating a boss. Missed that in Dark Souls 2 soooo much and now it's back in full force. Best level design of them all.

That's the one. And no, as soon as you step
out of the mill (past the snakehead guy on the bridge and to the right), there's a 2nd elevator that goes up to the lantern. Didn't you already activate that one?

Ah yea alright, if you raise your insight before that you get to see them aswell

Holy shit INSIGHT is what does that? Ohhhh man they weren't kidding when they said it's knowledge of the forbidden realities or whatever.... This game is so fucking cool.
