how do you actually complete a chalice dungeon? i got to level 3, killed 3 bosses and can't find another layer. is that? just remove the chalice from the grave and start again?

If I ring the bell and leave the game, when I return will I have to spend another Insight to summon? Or will the Bell Sign still be searching?

If I have this down... the REQUIRED zones/bosses in the game are the following:

Father G (Yarnham)
Amilia (Grand Cathedral)
Shadow of Yarnham (Forbidden Forest)
Rom the spider (Bernham)
The Unborn One (Unseen Village)
Micolah The Nightmare (Nightmare Menses)
The Wet Nurse (Nightmare Menses)

The main game definitely isn't long if that's all you do but the optional content takes up more than the main game!

Cleric Beast (Yarnham)
The Starved Beast (Old Yarnham)
The Witch (Hemwick)
Amygdala (Nightmare Frontier)
Paarl (Unseen Village)
Logarius (Cainhurst Castle)
Celestial Emissary (Upper Cathedral)
Daughter of Cosmos (Upper Cathedral)
Gerham (last boss you don't even have to fight him)
Moon boss (secret final boss)

Ah actually
Cleric Beast
is obligatory because he drops the badge that allows you to buy the key to the main plaza in
Cathedral Ward

My final time for the first run is 32:08 at level 78. I beat all the optional bosses too.

I actually felt like I played longer, I idle a lot(probably around 2 hours worth) so this is a bit shorter than other souls games have been to me, but it didn't feel like it. I'm happy with what's here.

I'll make a bigger post probably tomorrow on my thoughts.

err... boss spoiler
Rom
...what?

how exactly are we supposed to get past the million spiders to hit him. I mean I got him to about half, at which point there are so many spiders I cant find a opening to get in there, not to mention the ice (but that I avoided most of it)

what am I missing?

Ok,
Rom's just a hit and run boss with high damage, but easily dodged and very telegraphed attacks, the thing that makes him difficult is the spider swarm. However, you might have noticed that when you first start the fight and before you teleport, the Rom doesn't do anything but back away.

This is a good opportunity to get rid of 1/3rd of the spiders, just hit them in the back twice or keep comboing them in the face until they expose their neck(not all weapons work for this, YMMV). Now once those guys are gone, keep doing charged R2 attacks till he teleports away. Once he does so, the fight becomes a bit different, it's a hit and run battle. The key here is to bring a weapon that has a wide swinging arc for its running attack. The Kirkhammers transformed R2 while running, or Ludwig's transformed R1 while running are perfect examples of this, and both will do well over a hundred damage per pass. Use something like this and never stop moving, also remember that Rom is weak to lightniing so bolt paper is useful. By this point I'm sure you've memorized his tells for moves, but to review, when he lifts just his head, he's doing long range meteor so start dodging forward. When he glows, lifts his head and tail, he's doing a very short range area effect that will probably 1 shot you, so run back a bit. When he flips on his back he's doing a short ranged multidirectional meteor so get away from him immediately. While doing all of this get 1 or two hits in, keeping the spiderlings in your sight and not letting them get a hit in.

Hope this helps.

Ran straight to
Father G
after beating
Cleric Beast
and took him out!

My hands are shaking from that fight..who do I go after next?

Gave the bosses a taste of their own medicine... Died a couple of times to BSB and was getting frustrated. Went through the fog gate and said fuck it, I'm charging in. Went right at him and rolled in behind him and stayed on his ass completely. Only took one or two glancing hits myself, kept on him and he went right down. Didn't use a single vial, molly or anything. BOOM. Felt soooooo good.

Go back up to the graveyard bit in cathedral ward with the 2 big axe giants, take the passage to the left. When you come out there's a crow and a kind of hag woman, go left and you'll run into that knight guy (can't remember his name off the top of my head). Next to him is a set of steps down to a door that needs a password which you should have now

Just as I was doing that i went to answer a text message and
one of those dudes with burlap sacks killed/kidnapped me

W T F. Followed a path in cathedral ward right from V
icar
A
melia
where you first fight two
hunters
. If you follow the path further there are two
hooded axe guys and two "snipers". Then there is a huge hall which already gave me "NOPE" vibes. Tried to open the gate at the end of the hall and a huge ghost/demon grabs me and i die.
So i assume this is some endgame/special super side mission shit. Bye bye 14k echoes.

No That area opens up as the main story after killing Rom. It's the entrance to unseen village.

You make it sound complicated. Why hit and run the boss, when you can just take out all the little adds first? He only spawns new ones when he teleports. He only teleports when you've dealt some damage, it's a simple pattern.

Wow. Three people co-oping against BSB is SO much fun. I'm trying to beat each boss on my own in my game, but helping people along the way. Really enjoying co-op against the bosses.

Any advice for
Vicar Amelia
? I cant seem to get her down to less than two-thirds of her hp.

Firepaper,
avoid the praying ranged attack, stop her from healing with numbing mist when she's below 40%.

Eh, that was my strat on my 3rd try and it worked out. I wasn't really dieing to the adds because I was just running past the boss while doing damage.
If you try to deal with the adds past the second phase you're liable to get killed by the boss.

Just for reference:

I have beaten 5 bosses and my timer is @18:30h. Granted, I take my time to stroll about and usually double and triple check areas so that I don't miss anything. I am not even doing bad as in I don't die a lot. I just take my time.
The finishing times of these games vary greatly depending on how you approach them. I very much expect more than 40-50h of playtime out of this.

I'm the same way, that's why I'm so surprised it's already over. Dark Souls took me over 80 hours my first time through and Dark Souls 2 was 50 hours. Even Demon's Souls was at least 30. According to my trophy list I've killed
thirteen
bosses and I'm sure a few of them were optional.

I don't want to give the impression that I just blew through each area.

Any advice for Vicar Amelia? I cant seem to get her down to less than two-thirds of her hp.

I really struggled with her too. I found
fire worked well (I used both flamethrower and molotovs) and otherwise just timing dodges properly (you need to dodge mid-swing, dodge too early and you get hit)

I feel stupid. How do you change what funny little hat your minions wear? Can't seem to find that option. I got the DLC from Gamestop and input the code and whatnot.

How do I get the option to tell the NPC hooker where to go?
She just keeps saying that this is no place for ladies, despite the fact that I have both havens available.

So can anyone confirm that bosses can take your blood echos or that they go away if you log out of the game (or someone told me they might also go away if you return to the dream/hub area)? Would be good to know these things...
