Pillars of Eternity |OT| You must gather your party before venturing forth.

I need to find a gun then.. still early because I restarted due to the equipment glitch.. I did the two sidequests in Gilded Vale (mother and blacksmith) and I'm on the 2nd floor of the temple of eoth now.. not sure if I should go to Caed Nua next or Raedric's Keep

Guns are pretty much the game for me. My ranger uses a bow, my wolf uses her teeth, Eder uses a sword and shield, every one else uses a gun of some sort.

what's a paladin?

Priests actually do very well with firearms from what I've seen so far in the game. I made my Priest adventurer into essentially a battle-priest(plate armor, arquebus, and war hammer) and it's worked out really well so far.

Well, I found my first quest-breaking glitch. I hope that's all it is. It's in "The Parable of Wael."
I buried the scroll, and now I can't return to the House of Mysteries without it's inhabitants attacking on sight. Will I need to go back there for story reasons?
A very similar glitch happened to me in the
Sanitarium thalos quest
restarting from an earlier save file worked

Raedric's keep is far easier. As soon as I entered Caed Nua I got gangbanged by a team of shadows and phantoms no matter which way I went. In the end I stealthed past them and into the keep. Once I'd explored most of the keep I went back out into the courtyard and pulled the groups apart while in stealth, luring enemies away form their groups to be killed several at a time.

I think this may be an annoying bug, but someone please tell me if I'm doing something wrong.

I have auto-pause enabled for ineffective weapon, and the tooltip says it's if a party member's attack is ineffective...but it seems to trigger every time an ENEMY does an ineffective attack. This is both annoyingly often, and I don't typically care when it happens since it means I'm not taking much damage.

Is there any way to only pause if your own attacks are ineffective? Or, if I disable that autopause checkbox, is there any way to find out from the combat log that your attack is ineffective?

Quick question: Does the bestiary indicate what weapon you should use against specific enemies? One of the early game bits of text said something about the bestiary giving you info on what weapons to use.

it just tells you what type of damage they are weak against, you can also find it via tooltip by hovering over an enemy in combat

The bestiary can tell you what types of damage monsters are resistant to, so you can deduce which weapon/spells to use on them.

Also, the Trial of Iron mode seems to be bugged.

You can simply quit from the save/load screen when battle starts, and load your save slot (from some time earlier), thus allowing you to approach the battle differently.

Surely that isn't intended behavior?

Probably not, but I suppose since you can't save during battle it's probably an unintended consequence.

Just bought this even though I wont be playing it till I beat bloodborne. BG2 is one of my all time favorites so I have high expectations for this game.

Thanks! I think I'm missing something, though. Where exactly on the stat sheet does it say this? This is for foes I've killed 4+ times.

Are Paladins really that bad/boring?

Really considering restarting the game with a new character seeing all the negativity about them.
Pallegina seems pretty legit on my team
I wouldn't advise playing a paladin or priest with the reputation tags turned off unless you are very confident

Interesting. I found caed nua pretty easy where I struggled in raedrics keep. Maybe I need a different weapon set for my rogue to handle the heavy armored paladins.

I'm doing a pretty completionist run of the game and am about 35 hours in and I just reached dryford village. How far along am I? Feels something like halfway.

Kinda, yea. I'm 35 hours and the paladin guy I made basically is just a tank. But the fighter guy you get is a better tank anyway so he's just an off tank. Healing abilities are nice but your priest does it better and more safely and their damage output in unimpressive.

Cipher imo is the most fun class. Their abilities do crazy amounts of AOE damage and they aren't limited in spell uses at all. Cipher combined with priests break the game basically. On hard mode, nothing but the bounty quests have provided any challenge at all so far. My next run, I'll probably do path of the damned.

His default weapon is a bostaff...do not use this at all..
Hmm, I dunno. Now, I get that you might want to keep him out of harm's way, but Priests have so many powerful spells that are tiny AoEs centered around the caster. With quarterstaff or another extra reach melee weapon, Durance will stand right behind your tank(s) dealing damage through them, and you'll have better opportunities to use his small AoE spells. I know you can do this with proper ranged weapons, but it takes just a little bit more micromanagement with your positioning

I'm playing a Aumaua Paladin myself, but for RPGing purposes. I went in knowing that I wasn't going to play the stats on this game, I was going to truly role play my PC and I wanted to do it as a Kind Wayfarer Paladin. The chips will fall where they may.

Man, this game is so good. I'm glad I backed it even without knowing much or following it closely.

stupid question: does the passage of time matter much if I use a lot of time backtracking locations, and frequent 8 hour rest stops?

It's always a shame that Paladins get the short end of the stick. There were boring in MoTB and are somewhat lackluster here too.

what parties you guys rolling with? I got me, cipher, fighter, chanter, mage, priest and ranger. I'm thinking about tossing out that chanter dude for a barb or something to get more dps.

What character stat is checked to uncover the pink lootable stashes while in sneak mode? Is it perception? Mechanics?

Not sure really, though when I'm scouting as a group and find something it's Durance who says he's the one that found it and he has by far the highest mechanics. He also has terrible perception and much lower stealth than some others. His intellect is also well behind.

Man I have this weird bug where one of my companions currently has 54 int... something tells me thats not normal lol.
Did you have a cipher with a soul whip? There was some sort of bug that gave permanently boosted (doubled?) intelligence when a cipher used a soul whip. Maybe in a certain situation.

That sort of makes sense if "mechanics" is the "rogue-like stuff" stat. It's used for lock skills too, so I guess finding hidden things goes along with it.

Paladin, Cipher, Chanter, Priest, Wizard, Fighter.

Paladin and Fighter tank while everyone else (beside the wizard) has a powerful gun. Chanter giving the entire group improved attack speed basically turns every fight into an unfair firing squad. Oh, and the Wizard and Cipher are firing AoE balls of death inbetween shots. Priest has crazy powerful buffs, heals, and debuffs.

Guns are very good guys.

Still kind of silly when you have a stat called perception and it doesnt help you percieve things.

Act II task question regarding Derrin:

How do I find his killers? I have the dagger with the initial B on it, but no one in the brothel has a B name and I can't speak to anyone inside about it either.

I don't remember if I saw this tip here or not, but lockpicking doesn't count as stealing, so you can get tons of xp just running around lockpicking everything in the town

I really didn't think an IE style game could hold my attention with the decade plus of 3d games slowly chipping away at my attention span towards isometric style, but damn has this game surprised me. I honestly don't think I've been this engrossed in an rpg since Fallout 3, and well, the IE games before that. The writing is so fulfilling, I love the descriptions, definitely fills the void I've been feeling since these kind of games left the scene. Some of the character intros are so well done, especially
Grieving Mother
.

Combat is just so satisfying, to be able to get back into party management like this feels like I didn't skip a beat from the last time I picked up BGII. It's tough but I dig the challenge, but will probably be cursing up a storm as I work my way through The Endless Paths.

Only criticism I have is it feels like the larger cities art wise leave a bit to be desired, some of the districts feel so sparse with a lot of empty space, I felt like Athkatla had the perfect balance with density of shopfronts and detail to make it feel like a lived in place. Budget wise it's understandable though. I seriously don't want this game to end, hope it lasts me a good week or two. I rarely do restarts soon after completion but I just might with this game, feels that satisfying.

I think I did almost all the quests on Gilded Vale, but I'm with the game closed so I don't remember the quests names, anyway tell me if I'm missing another quest besides the two major ones C
aed Nua
and R
aedric's Hold
.

- The mother asking to find the cure for his soulless to come baby
- The feud between the drunkards and the old man at the mill
- The temple of Eoras
- I rescued the inn's chef
- I killed the bear
- I brought back the shipment to the blacksmith

I don't want to spoil it for you but the killer isn't in the brothel, he's outside somewhere in the zone. I can get more specific if you want.

There is a gang on the western side of the map if I am remembering correctly. Their leader's name obviously starts with a B.

is there a place to buy guns from? I don't think i've seen them yet. But I just got to defiance bay after restarting. so maybe that's why. Would like one for my cipher.

I agree, but I also think that it's kind of silly for an auto-pause option to say it pauses on party member ineffective attacks...but it also pauses when the enemy attacks are ineffective on you as far as I can tell. :P

I tried a ranger with a bear and it was a non-stop string of pauses every time enemies hit the thing.

It's just a hassle to me to have to disengage Durance, especially when dealing with big mobs and you can't predict who they will engage. So for me I prefer to not have to deal with him dying all the time and just keep him in the back.

Right, I've got that. But where does it tell me what types of weapons/spells the enemy is resistant to?

If it shows the enemy is strong to blunt, then it's strong against weapons that do blunt damage....same thing with Burn and Corrode and all of that. You can see that kind of stuff by hovering over the monster.

If you are looking for it to tell you specifically what weapons, you are going to be out of luck. You're going to have to do some work yourself.

The game is running pretty well on my old AMD 810 x4 and ati 4870. I was concerned it wouldn't as that is barely above the listed minimum specs. Perhaps my pc will cry later during spell heavy confrontations.

Right, I've got that. But where does it tell me what types of weapons/spells the enemy is resistant to?
Near the base DR there are elements with different numbers, if they are higher than their dr it means they are more resistant to that element, if they are lower it means they take more damage from that element.
Just like on your armor there are some elements in parenthesis, they are just the elements where the DR is not the same as the base one.
The weapons and spells they take more damage from depend on what element (or damage type) the spell or weapon inflicts.

As much as I'm loving the game, looking back the intro was pretty boring/bad. It gets way better.

Well it's tutorial segment for a game while kickstarting story. You could think it as pilot episode for TV series, you know it will look sucky in hindsight as series find its pacing and gets going.
