Project CARS (crowdsourcing) racing sim by Slightly Mad Studios (fully funded 3.75M)

I'm not a huge fan of supercars in a track sim but it's nice that we'll get a free car every month!
Not really a big fan of concept cars either, don't really enjoy this car in Driveclub.

I'd rather they get more licenses for GT3 cars personally, but hey, free cars each month is welcome regardless.

So, GS in the US changed the release date to June a few weeks, now it's TBD. But the good news is the pre-order car pack is now included.

One question to those with access to the current build. Can you driver swap in multiplayer and this way create a true endurance race ala 24H of LeMans?

You would think with all the delays they would throw Wii U owners a bond in the form of a screenshot or short gameplay vid... dreaming.

LOL at WiiU version. Does anyone REALLY believe that this exists?

I'll be impressed (no sarcasm intended) if we see it for consoles before the summer.

Personally I don't believe it exists right now (at least in any showable state) but I do believe SMS are committed to it for whatever reasons. There has been no vote or anything with the community to suggest dropping it and all the talk is that it will come.

Maybe some money changes hands at some point who nows but for whatever reason I still believe firmly that it will come.

They already said that the work on the WiiU version was paused to focus on the current gen version and PC. Once those are done they will resume work on the WiiU version.

So there's nothing to show right now.

People on the dev forums already know that it exists. There have been multiple posts about it and updates, but for various reasons it hasn't been shown. It exists, but it hasn't been actively worked on for a while now since all work has been put on shipping the more important versions. Can't tell you more about it, but rest assured that it exists and has been developed, but hasn't been a priority for quite a while.

I'm not completely sure but I believe I read somewhere that driver swapping would be implemented after the release.

Yeah, I remember something like that too. I think swaps and safety cars are the main endurance race features that will be added in post-launch support.

Is that in the same way as the PS3/360 version exist?!

Not having a go at you, it just seems as if they are able to alter their position on platform releases at a whim.

My money is on never seeing a Wii release. I think DLC and supporting what will (almost inevitably) be a bugged PC/PS4/Bone release will take up all of their time.

No offense taken, but to be fair us team members have access to a lot more information and have a say in some decisions. Not saying that the Wii U version absolutely will happen, but it's unfair to say that no version exists or imply that they are lying because we know that isn't true and we participated in the decision to switch target platforms (which still included Wii U).

Exactly... The 360/PS3 comparison doesn't work cause we knew (and voted) for them to be cancelled since they didn't make sense for a 2015 released game.

Frankly the WiiU version makes even less sense but as of the last update it still exist. My bet is that they have a contract with Nintendo which forces them to release it on the WiiU which is why it hasn't been cancelled. Personnaly I think it's a waste of time and ressource to do any work on a WiiU version so I'm happy they moved it to later after the game's proper release.

Shame that it isn't ready at launch. But I don't mind that much if they make it work a couple of months after launch.

Complete theory with no facts behind it, but if that is the case, I wouldn't be shocked if that arrangement wasn't changed to moved it towards being a launch title to the NX console to release next year. Would be a win-win for both companies in my humble opinion. A sim racer at launch for a new platform and SMS would cash in on early adopters that are eager to get games to their new console (and a much easier development with less compromises).

Not a bad theory but I really doubt we'll see the NX next year... Didn't they say it was a 2017 thing?

I'm also in the no more super cars van as well, but I'm not in the more GT3 cars van either. I'd rather see other discipline grow bigger. GT3 (and GT4 to a lesser extent) is already pretty crowded.

Is that what you talking about ? :)

Yeah, the ideal would be two or three cars of each class, a couple of JGTC/Super GT cars would be nice, couple of BTCC cars from the 90's , some GT1 cars from early 2000's... that kind of variety should be what they try to give it to us.

Cross-quoting DieH@rd from the delay thread as it might fly under the radar otherwise.

I think this is one of my favourite pCARS videos ever, as not only is there nothing quite like a pack of angry RUFs, but it also shows just how the handling and AI are really coming together.

Take his advice and make sure to watch it at 60fps if you can. It's fabulous.

Great video by VVV showcasing progress on the game. Watch it in 60fps

There was a fantastic moment when AI defended one attack from Alan. :)

I agree that video is amazing. Alan and the rest of the VVV team always create top notch content and this one is no exception.

Hi
Ford Capri Zakspeen video on the Nordschleife circuit with several cameras on pedals and gearbox to make it look how much fun it is to drive this car in manual

Hi
Comparison Project CARS and real life with the Renault Megane Rs in the incredible Nordschleife (Nurburgrin) from two different views to appreciate the details

Hi and thanks for sharing that video. Pcars lighting is really good!

Since you have proven yourself able, can you please do a comparison of the real life megan R vs the new civic type R? That would great to see and compare.

Amazing video as always!

Somehow I wasn't subscribed already, just fixed that.

Crazy setup you're using too lol.

Nice! Have to say that Capri is one of my top cars to play in PCars, awesome fun in manual (although I have a G27 attached to a desk, nothing quite as flash as your setup!)

That looks like an absolute blast - the sensation of speed is incredible. I cannot wait to try this in proper stereoscopic 3D with a VR headset. I bet it's legit scary. Wonder what it's like in VR on a full-motion cockpit..?

This game seems to be coming together very nicely indeed.

After a long time I was without good GPU, today I fired up pCARS and I had awesome race against AI on Nirburgring. I set the weather on "real weather" and it was raining. :)

Really wish I could have applied to be a part of this project. Seriously anticipating this game and so jelly of the rest of you.

Yeah, me too. I've just been skimming through this whole thread and its interesting following the insights of members over the past few years.

Does anyone know if they plan on opening up the forums once the game is released? I want to go back and follow the development process right from the start.

I really really doubt it since there's a bunch of stuff they would still not want to be public.

Also the WMD members will continue to test the game after it's released for the dlc and stuff.

Really? The mind boggles. And good luck with that - there's, what, 80,000 users on the WMD forums. I can't believe there won't be leaks at some point.

Yeah, some things have leaked (which is why they don't share so much important stuff, especially anything related to outside partners), mostly due to just ignorant people. They have shared some things in advance to Managers and up, but since there are quite a lot of them as well SMS can't really disclose anything close to confidential on the forums. That 80K is all users though, not just those that have contributed to the game (which is probably less than half of that).

The saddest part for me has been those folks leaking builds for pirating. For me it seems worse than even standard pirating, for one your invested in the product and secondly you have a personal connection through the forums with the folks who's livelihoods depend on it.

Still I guess you get to be a cool kid on the internet for 30 seconds in some back alley dark forum.

That's bad. Shame they can't tag the builds to members somehow so they can at least be traced back.

Edit: btw, can anyone link to some good 60fps pCARS videos on YouTube? That recent VVV Ruf one had me salivating.

STILL has me salivating.

TBH I don't spend a lot of time looking at the vids (as I can play :) - sorry that was cruel!) but I know the pick good community ones and put them on the youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLtqFhfP1RfbeHtRnLH0cV17z9VVuYX4og
