Is anyone able to help with
Shadow of Yharnam
boss fight? I'm level 49.

Also, is the fastest way there through the
Forbidden Woods,
through the area with the
cannon, then the pigs?

There is
a bunch of shortcuts though the forbidden forest. First one connects the area right after the cannon to the first bonfire. Then there is another one that should connect down by the water area with the pigs back to near that first shortcut, so you can take 2 shortcuts from the lantern to get to within a run past the two pigs to get to the boss.

You monster. He is legitimately the nicest character in the entire game.

If you send him enough people, he has some real touching dialogue about finally having company and stuff. As creepy as he looks, he just wanted friends.
YOU MONSTER.
he? Is it confirmed somewhere or what.
looks more like a she (she-monster) to me, from the voice at least.

So about the guy who tells you about the
academy and church;
the guy at the end of the left trail in
Cathedral Ward
. What do you get if you kill him? I keep going back to him but he never says anything more so I am wondering what goodies he might be carrying.....

10/10, that's priceless.

I'm an arcane build and went with Ludwig's because I like longswords and greatswords in these games, plus it ends up with the highest arcane scaling of every weapon. I put two fire gems in it and it seemed to work great for a while but now my damage feels lacking again. Sure I was only at +6 but it was taking 5-6 hits with the longsword mode to kill regular enemies in chalice dungeons and
unseen village
.

So now I'm using Tonitrus out of necessity because it hits so hard it's ridiculous. Its powered-up mode seems to benefit from both physical attack and bolt attack gems, which is the only explanation for this crazy damage. It's only +7 and for example its charge attack was hitting over 1000 - this is not a big slow weapon. It's a quick little mace.

I prefer the stake driver and ludwig's movesets but I might as well use the weapon that's hitting 2-3 times harder...wish the stake driver in particular had better scaling.

Nice, good info.
I'm a strength build but it looks like I'd benefit from putting some points in arcane. Didn't realize Tonitrus scaled with arcane too.

My Ludwig is at +6 and my Tonitrus is at +5. I'm just starting to find Bloodshard chunks and just got to that location you mentioned. Tonitrus is getting upgraded! I wasn't going to touch the mace because I thought it would be big and slow so I stuck with the Saw Cleaver for a bit. Can't get over how fast and hard it hits. Only thing missing is reach.

What do I do with Insight points exactly? I have 9 at this point and I haven't spent any on anything. I'm searching for the 3rd boss at this moment.

I noticed that nothing really seems different, other than the fact that my item purchases cost a lot more Blood Echoes.

Is there some benefit to having a lot of Insight points? I know you use them to summon co-op with the bell, but I don't foresee myself inviting anyone into my game for a long time. What else can you buy?

Thanks!

Later on,
you can use it to buy stuff from one of those creppy pool thing.

Gave it one more shot. Not gonna happen. Terrible game for a low level run, an absolute catastrophe compared to the genius that is s.lvl 1 Demon's Souls playthrough.

But hey, at least the actual game is solid.

Evelyn + Bone Marrow Ash + Bloodtinge at 35 = OP as fuck.

Took down DarkBeast Paarl in less than 10 shots from a distance. I can't imagine if Bloodtinge is at 50, this would wreck bosses

Can you give me more specifics on how to figure it out?

It is
in the first little village area in the forest, right near the caged dogs. There is also a guy in a house with a red lantern around there that will give you an item for a different secret area.

Demon's Souls is still king!

What about
the lecture hall or the castle?

i dont think ive been to either of those places? :o

i unlocked the shortcut near
the starting clinic and killed the female hunter / got invitations to cainhurst
but i havent been there yet - assumed it was later

no idea bout the
lecture hall

Side quest spoiler:
When/if you find the queen of the vilebloods you can take the summons that is in her room to him.

Yeah, I think I will do a 50/40 VIT/END 50/30/30 STR/SKL/BT build for my NG run....or just fuck it and max out everything to 50/50/50 lol.

Alright so I've picked up some Uncanny and Lost variations of weapons in Chalice Dungeons, but as far as I can tell the only difference are the blood gem slots. Is that really it?

Can you give me an idea where that is? I've made it to
Ameila door and down left all the way to the witches. I've also cleared out most of Cathedral Ward and opened all the short cuts.

I love how this game fucks with your sense of direction. Went through the door in Cathedral Ward that opens when you beat BSB, ran across a platform to dodge snipers, then I spotted one of the crystal lizard equivalents - chased it but fell off a ledge and ended up in the middle of a tower that I basically had to fall from ledge to ledge. And now I have no idea where I am :)

It'll all link up eventually of course - I just like how they never let you settle

Have you
read the invitation? It gives you a clue.
For
lecture hall you need to get zapped by one of those spiders while holding the tonsil stone.
That's what happened to me anyway. Not sure if you can still do it or not.

How is the katana in PVE? I've read it and the gun that scales from bloodtinge make an awesome combo. Though it does seem quite PVP orientated.

I agree. Love the game, but my biggest disappointment so far is how much levels matter and are necessary. you get enough d from levels to be able to grind your way to easier times.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure I unlocked all of them, I just forget where to go. :(

Not a spoiler, there isn't a boss named Mister Lagombi(lol monster hunter rabbit) in the game, fellas.

Shakes fist furisously! /jk

Heh. Good to know. Getting my ass kicked by the S
hadows
...
Funny thing is that I am certain that I am the one killing myself

So I got the lantern at the Great Bridge (after defeating the first boss). Where do I go from there? I couldnt find any other path and theres some inoperable elevator near the Central Yarnham lantern.

It is
in a secret area that you get from obtaining a pass from another secret area that you get from finding a hidden path in the forbidden woods.

Warning about the area outside where you fell down....
There is one of those mind sucking things that will steal your fricking insight. You will be in a tight alleyway, too, so it's hard to get away. Bastard stole 10 of them from me!

Jesus, this game!

I hope you're missing something that makes it viable. It's being able to do that kind of stuff after all that makes these games so incredible.

Asked this in the other thread but it got buried.

Any of you fucking around with some creative and unique builds?

Like, beyond the STR/SK etc... normal stuff.

I want to do something neat like my dual-spotted whip poison build from DS and my monster FTH/lightning build from DS2. Just bored with being a straight up melee or gun character, I want something special.

Its reach is never going to be amazing but the R1 - L1 combo is a long poke that also charges up the electricity.

Loving the game so far, even though the Woods boss felt like it was lifted straight out of Dark Souls 2 (and not in a good way), and the spoopy village, despite having a really awesome visual aesthetic, is kind of an awful zone.

I feel like I missed something on
Amelia
, though. I beat the fight on the first try without really feeling like I grasped the gimmick of it. To me it didn't really feel very different from the CB/BSB battles, but hearing people talk it seems like there was more going on that I must have lucked through.

Actually had a lot more trouble fighting the random groups of NPC Hunters so far than any of the bosses, to be honest. Those assholes are my number one argument for Yharnam gun control legislation.

I'm pretty sure Eileen is bugged in my game. I never met her in the sewers, she wasn't in the cathedral ward
after I defeated Rom, and now I'm at the nightmare frontier area
and she's nowhere to be found. :(

wondrous tight spot

I have question, is there more to gun parry other simply timing your shot at enemy mid attack? I swear I've got the timing right only for the enemy to ignore the attack and the attack hit me.

Perhaps
it got sucked out of your head?

lol, +1. Fuck those guys, seriously.

It's easy to do it too early. Don't pull trigger right when they go to strike, let them actually start moving their swing towards you (instead of winding up). Then shoot them. If you land it, they will drop to knees. Hit r1 ONCE. Do NOT mash R1 and the animation will kick in. You will also hear a loud "DONG" when you land it.

I'm scheduled to take on Amelia and bsb tonight. Too tired though after work and I know I won't sleep if I'm too Damn angry, considering I leveled up and bought loads of consumables...

Here's a question/theory that's a bit of a doozy!

I found someone on a roof in the Forbidden Woods. I didn't realize they were an NPC because there was a hint on the ground that read "Beast ahead". I saw it eating something on the ground, so I just started attacking. Next thing I knew, this man transformed into some insane looking beast. I killed him in a really cheesy manner, but my god was he incredible looking. His voice changed, he was insanely aggressive, and had lightning on his fur. I'm wondering if there's a way to transform like he did, and maybe there's something we're missing. We've seen bosses transform, but this guy is actually just an NPC out in the world who you can also bring back to Oedon Chapel or Iosefka's Clinic. Here's a screenshot of him, but given the angle, it doesn't do him any justice. http://i.imgur.com/asrTqvk.jpg

Thoughts?

Can someone tell me where the last/ final area is? I don't want to end this game yet and I just beat the boss in
unseen village part 2
. Now I'm in the
lecture building again
.

Nightmare of Mensis is the last story area. There's a few other hidden places that are easily missed, however.
