Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

I didn't realize Dark Souls 2 was not a Miyazaki game. So it's like the Bioshock 2 of the Souls series.

Fair analogy.

Being that I have Bloodborne - I miiiiiiiiight try this out for like $15 when its on sale.

Otherwise I'll be on my 3rd playthrough of Bloodborne by then.

On the fence with this one. Want some impressions on how much the graphics and the game itself is actually upgraded before double-dipping.

Yep, it's a good comparison. Bioshock 2 also got a lot of unfair criticism. It did many things better than Bishock, and some worse.

I'm already a bit into Bloodborne's NG+ yet I still have the urge to go back and play this instead.

The world and how interconnected it is, yes, that is lacking in DaS2 vs DaS1 or Bloodborne, but the gameplay and PvP was excellent.

I never did play the DLCs so I got a lot of new content to see other than the new enemy placements etc. I'm getting it on PC(DX11) and it looks like there'll be a pretty big community according to some polls, which is good in order to level up with covenants and PvP.

There better me, I'm gonna rush straight to the Blue Sentinels,
Dragon
be damned! I need me some cute little newbies to protect :D

I think of it as the Bayonetta 2 or DMC3. Sure, it's a dumber story, but it fixed all of the things with the earlier games that I found annoying.

Dark souls 2 strategy guide, may or yay? Or should I just stick with online resources?

I'm tempted to get it (and the Dark Souls guide) just to collect them. But with all the enemy location changes etc. in this new version the guide is likely relatively useless at this point if I had to guess.

So is Steam the only place to get this? I was hoping I could buy the DX11 version off Best Buy to get 20% off via GCU, but it doesn't look like that's an option.

It will be eventually, I guess. Places don't have preorders because the pricing for the PC version(s) was determined very recently (and will hopefully still change?)

I'm playing Bloodborne now (still near the beginning area) lol. I'm having fun as I make it further and further. My fighting skills have gotten so much better after so many deaths.

I think I'll pick up Dark Souls 2, never played it.

If the impressions of the PC version over the original release are positive enough, I may end up paying the $20 to experience it once I've wrung what I want out of Bloodborne.

If you own the PC version already with all DLC, I suggest waiting for a sale. Revised placement is not enough and the graphics upgrades aren't that good compared to existing mods.

i nereeeeeeeeeeeeed this

Is the DLC better then the base game? I got and beat DS2 at launch on PC but never bothered with the DLC because I felt let down by the game compared to DS1. I don't really need the game to have more/harder enemies, my issue was more with the world layout. If the DLC fixes that I might get it.

DLC is really great and theres some very clever environmental puzzle elements implemented. Definitely a treat to play.

IMO the DLC is excellent with some of the best fights in the series and corrects some of the criticisms that people had with the main game and it's layout. YMMV of course.

I only just beat the first boss of Bloodborne. It'll probably be Summer by the time I get a chance to play this.

But I guess it would be better for me to play Demon's Souls and DS1 before DS2?

They are all unrelated so the order you plan doesn't matter, but I feel like DS2 is the lesser of the 3.

It's really up to you, the Souls games are all different enough from each other that you can play them in whatever order you feel like. Dark Souls II is considered the weakest in the series by some diehard fans, but it also has its fair share of devotees.

Hey guys if you didn't like Dark Souls 2 you really can just choose to opt out of this thread altogether. I mean seriously, its tired as hell to sit and bitch about DaS2 like its some abomination. It scored highly and a lot of people really liked it. Time to move on with your lives.

*end rant

I'm only in the Cathedral area of Bloodborne now so there's a ton of game in front of me, but honestly I keep thinking about how much I enjoyed DaS2 and would really like to play a revamped version of it with better visuals. Its really exciting to me. I'm finding it hard to stop myself from dropping $60 on it next week, but I know I don't really need to play it right now.

Have they specified how 5P co-op will work? Are the bosses being buffed to counter this? I'd like to know more as I just recently found out about it.

Wow, you played too much BB too, didn't you, Yoshi?

I had two 14 hour sessions this weekend and that kinda worn me out. I really loved the game though, but I went as far as NG+6 when Dark Souls 2 was released. BB didn't reel me in as much..I'm not really sure why.

Looking forward to return once more considering I never played the DLCs and that $30 price was a pretty good deal. Hope the price is reasonable for EU as well.

I'm pretty excited about this actually, and I'm definitely going to pick it up on PS4. It's cool that it's coming so close to Bloodborne, and I actually prefer the medieval aesthetic of the Souls games.

Basically. It gives you the same 'why does this exist' feeling, the same 'more = better' approach, the same stepping on the first game's lore and atmosphere, the same feeling of trying to copy the first game without actually knowing the creative decisions behind the first game.

Hell, they both even include DLC that's far better than the main game as well.

The only thing they don't share is that Bioshock 2 never got graphically downgraded, and Dark Souls 2 was not succeeded by a game that was arguably far worse than itself after years of delays and development hell.

Ken Levine used to be my dog, but he's no Miyazaki.

On their own though without the vacuum of their predecessors to be compared, Bioshock 2, and Dark Souls 2 are both good games that are enjoyable.

I absolutely loved Infinite, and could not see the criticisms some had of it. Levine is still my favorite person in the gaming industry.

I didn't hate Bioshock 2, but it just didn't leave an impression on me like the other two games.

Fair analogy.

Also like how their predecessors, Kings Field and System Shock are superior.

I wasn't gaming much during the System Shock era, so I couldn't know how good System Shock was.

I did enjoy some of the gameplay improvements of Bioshock 2, but it looks like the improvements made in Dark Souls 2 are minimal at best.

Might be worth (after finishing Bloodborne) finally playing Dark Souls on the 360 since I have a Games With Gold copy sitting on my HDD.

I can't wait to play this at a good frame rate, the DLC is all new content for me, and I loved the base game.

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin |OT| Not Another Bloodborne Thread

Bought this game last night for the third time. Once on ps3 which I never even installed, on PC and now on Xbone. Looking forward to playing all the way through this time. Should have Bloodborne all wrapped up by the time it comes out.

Their stories aren't dependent on one another in a way that you might assume. It's really OK to jump right in, but they're all really great games and I highly recommend them.

Demon Souls > Dark Souls > Dark Souls 2 is a quite common opinion among most if you would rate it based on the world building/lore.

IMO, Dark Souls 2 has the best gameplay, build variety and PvP out of the three. It doesn't necessarily mean it's "the best" overall, but I found it very enjoyable in the past.

Have never played Dark Souls 2 so I am super excited to try it and the DLC out! Gonna have so much fun switching from Bloodborne to Dark Souls 2 and back again whenever I feel like it!

Currently on Bloodborne and will be hard to play it since I ended the game on 360 but never played the DLC , so is worth to get this remaster just for the DLC?

Bought digitally (this will be my triple dip of this game).

Anemic Bloodborne and Bloodborne with Shields are pretty good titles.

Might have been said before but I suggest

Dark Souls 2: SotfS |OT| Gone in 60 frames

Looks like minimum requirements became recommended ones with the new version.

So it is confirmed that the DX11 engine is kind of shitty and a lot slower. Wasn't DX11 supposed to be faster?

Again, what's the benefit of the new version if the two are identical beside enemy placement and slightly higher textures?

We don't even know if this new enemy placement is "better". We know it's different, but that's just about it.

All signs point to a worse version.

Yeah, they're great. Though I wouldn't buy it for full price if I already played the main game, but that's just me. I wouldn't have bought TLOU remastered either if I had a PS4.

Thanks guys, I'll probably jump straight in with DS2 then if I'm still feeling hungry after Bloodborne.

Are the Souls games basically Bloodborne with Shields?
