Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

I'm loving Bloodborne, it's probably my favorite game in years, and never finished DS1 or this (or Demon's). Should I pick this up? Will it matter that I never finished DS1? I have it on PC now, so I can still go back and play it.

I'd say you'd really enjoy it. No it wont matter.

There's no real connection between the two games at all. You won't see a difference if you skipped DaS1. I'd say play this then go back and play DaS1.

Demon's Souls is great. There's a slight decrease in graphics, but it's a fantastic game. You can see where they built upon the game's mechanics and everything.

Awesome, I can't wait! I enjoyed what I played of DS1, but it all totally clicked with me about 25% of the way through BB and now I just want every game to be like this.

I'm 100% on board with this for PS4 this April. It's gonna be awesome.

Edit: Removed the tales from my ass where I thought there was save transfer support on consoles. Wish there was though :(

I'm 100% on board with this for PS4 this April. So glad they have save transfer support too, now I can pick up right where I left on and get straight into the DLC that I never had a chance to play. It's gonna be awesome. Or maybe I'll just start fresh, because they have tweaked a lot of stuff.
Not for PS4, the enemy and item placements are all different.

save transfer support? where did you see that?

Never played DS2. Did not enjoy DS1 on pc. I was thinking maybe Xbone. Possibly more people playing it on XBONE since the PS4 community will be split playing BB.

As someone that just finished the game and DLC on PC, Im not touching this until it is on a Steam sale at sub $10 price, in any other world, this would have been a free update.

Its great for people wanting to play it on current gen consoles though.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the update that matters, the new content and enemy placement was offered for free for owners of vanilla DS2 (except the higher player count on MP).

Buy this only if you want improved graphics.

Shit, I may have imagined reading that in the OP? I can't seem to find it now. I would be fine going in with a brand new character, but I may have logged close to 60 hours or more in Dark Souls 2 on PS3. So there's no save transfer I take it?

Wish they'd implemented the password system (if I'm understanding it correctly) from Bloodborne into this, so it'd be easy to co op.

No, it's in the OP. Enemy remixes are DX11/next gen only.

I didn't even know people could join friends in Dark Souls 1/2. How do they do it anyway? By reading soapstones on the ground, what if they're on different servers? If I convince my pal to by Dark Souls 2 on PS4, I'm sure we'll have a hard time without the bell system which has been working quite well in Bloodborne.

Me and some friends spent a looong time trying to get matched up together in DS1. DS2 has a ring you can wear where you choose a "god/goddess" to represent while you wear it and you get a higher chance of getting matched with a friend (through them picking the same one), but it never did seem to work for me, tbh.

I'm looking forward to this MORE rather than less being knee-deep into Bloodborne.

It's really strange, I expected the opposite.

I'm really excited for it too. I have really fond memories of Dark Souls 2, and now with all the tweaks and changes, and a full suite of new DLC that I've never touched, all in 60fps, it's gonna be freakin' awesome.

Same.

DS2 had issues, but I am very excited to see the improvements in a second play than I am pushing on further in BB right now. Did not at all expect that either.

Am playing Bloodborne, loving it, but its giving me Dark Souls itching. I think I'm missing the more defensive pace and online features of Dark Souls 1 (haven't played the 2nd).
That said, I'm excited to get this one aswell!

I bought the game and season pass, why the fuck do I have to pay $20 for slightly different changes to the game and dx11 compat?

Dx11 should be a free upgrade for everyone, and include the dx9 version

$20 upgrade if you bought all of the DLC. Wow...

Yeah, I'm going to wait for a Steam Sale if it's good. I've already beaten DS1 and 2 at NG+++ and all of the DLC at least twice. So I can hold off and may hold off completely considering what changes have specifically been made.

Name-engraved ring works great in DS2. At least on PC. You find your friend pretty much immediately.

I dunno man... I think it will be rough going back. I'll pick this up for $20 at the end of the year I think. A fair price considering I already bought vanilla DS2 on PC.

I bought a ridiculously overpriced limited edition with the statue and a hood and a shoulder bag. Bought all the DLC. Still fine with rebuying the game for updates.

You don't have to pay anything. You're not being forced to buy the upgrade.

dunno if i can do two souls type games back to back. but i might have to as april looks pretty barren. need something to pass the time before witcher 3

Might get this. When I played through dark souls 2 at launch I had no Internet connection so I missed out on the awesome covenants. Also I haven't touched any dlc either.

I can run the PC version of DS2 @ 4k without drops on my 970.
PS4 should hold 60@1080p. Either the new version is using some expensive effects or it is CPU related?

Is the DLC endgame content or during a playthrough?

One is about 2/3rds, the others are earlier. You can literally enter one after killing two bosses, i.e.
kill any boss to get souls, buy a "thing", then rush The Rotten.
, if the location remains the same and they haven't made the entry item late game.

PART of one is very late game, though.

I've put online a few videos from the PS4 version, if people want to see it in HQ 1080p 60 fps. It's pretty much locked at 60 fps so far, only a few drops here and there.

Ugh...i think i've been taking BB for granted.

BB looks way better than DSK2 from those videos, even with much higher IQ on the PS4 version on DSK2..the assets are so barren and low res, even at the highest setting, no POM or reflection mapping like in BB

To be fair, it is only the first area of DKS2, maybe they will add more of the improved lighting and other upgrades in other areas

Dark souls 2 strategy guide, may or yay? Or should I just stick with online resources?

I prefer the online resources. The only thing that I found better in the guides were the maps. The online communities had many different strategies and other tricks not in the guide.

I didn't realize Dark Souls 2 was not a Miyazaki game. So it's like the Bioshock 2 of the Souls series.

Basically. It gives you the same 'why does this exist' feeling, the same 'more = better' approach, the same stepping on the first game's lore and atmosphere, the same feeling of trying to copy the first game without actually knowing the creative decisions behind the first game.

Hell, they both even include DLC that's far better than the main game as well.

The only thing they don't share is that Bioshock 2 never got graphically downgraded, and Dark Souls 2 was not succeeded by a game that was arguably far worse than itself after years of delays and development hell.

Ken Levine used to be my dog, but he's no Miyazaki.

On their own though without the vacuum of their predecessors to be compared, Bioshock 2, and Dark Souls 2 are both good games that are enjoyable.
