End-game question:

Is it just me or is Gherman a pretty rough fight? None of the bosses in this game gave me trouble but hes just so fast. I was a few beers deep though so that could have been my problem. I prefer to use the mace but I nearly killed him using the transformed axe charge attack, the range it covers is massive, then his speed and AoE when his health is low are a pain in the ass. Any tips?

That is amazing :O

i am sorry to say that im using a guide for this game. there are too many pathways, and i already ended up in some places i shouldnt have gone to yet when i wasnt using a guide..

i dont want to, but i have to.

Whats the best strategy to get a lot of echos? Farm in certain areas or help others defeat bossen true co-op?

Farming in the first floor of the
Lecture Building 1st floor
14-15k per minute since the loading times are scary fast there

Man, 20 vit ain't cutting it any more this deep into Chalices. This boss was one shotting me with every attack besides the kick, so I had to play perfectly:

tbh theres not much point going higher since the hardest part of the chalice dungeon halves your hp. Btw i like your style of using jumping attacks frequently :D

If you're having fun then keep at it man!

nothing wrong with using a guide. plenty of guys here read up on guides to find the secret optional stuff.

I actually really like both Frenzy and (late game zone spoiler)
Yahur'gul revisited.

Bloodborne's combat, thematically, has been about forcing players out of the safe soul's crawl they could get by and were even encouraged to do in previous games through its removal of shields, general speed, and the regain mechanic; frenzy and that particular area are natural extensions of that philosophy into the actual level design of the game, forcing the player to act quickly and decisively or die. You can't sit back when something is inducing frenzy or take fights methodically one by one when a bell maiden is present. You have to move; you have to fight.

I also love how frenzy ties in with insight and fits the flavor of the mid to late game enemies you face perfectly, but that's less relevant to its actual quality. I didn't find it particularly hard to deal with, in any case, if outfitted with the proper rune and gear.

So what is the most blood echoes everyone has lost?

I have been playing pretty carefully so the most I have lost was about 38k in the forest. Just defeated R
om
so there is a point of reference.

206k blood echoes

Had been exploring for a while, died here and there but always got my souls back, therefore they started accumulating.

At one point I enter a room where there's 2 blue guys that shoot magic missiles at you and a big homing blue ball, in the same room there were also 2 werewolves and 2 other monsters, that would not seem out of place in a Resident Evil game, anyways I enter the room and get blindsided by a werewolf from the left side and eat a swipe, followed by another swipe. I finally dodged to safety to my right to use a vial, at this moment I proceeded to be hit in the face by a spell, causing my vial to heal for half due to the damage, I dodged again to avoid the second hit and as soon as I finish dodging a monsters grabs me, sucks a good chunk of my health and leaves me for death.

I got up manage to side step twice to the left where unbeknownst to me the second werewolf was there and he lunges at, followed by a swipe me that kills me.

When I went to get the souls back, I died trying to reach the enemy that had them, in a brutal fashion pretty much....

I went shopping after that to clear my mind :)

Nice. I died 10+ times to it last night with 30 vit.

I'm just too sloppy to pull that off just yet. Severe "just one more swing!"-itis kills me every time.

Yeah, I heard about Defiled. I'm not too worried about it. I'll be mentally prepared then. I just wasn't prepared for the spike in enemy health/damage just now. It was crazy.

And thanks! :)

Yeah, if you'll notice, I nearly ate it on the last hit.

Upgrading weapons does more for damage than stats i think.

Yes and no. If you're as low level as possible a +10 weapon's base damage might outweigh the scaling you get from stats.

But pumping stats up adds a ton. Ludwig's Holy Sword has a base of 200 damage at +10, but the bonus damage on mine is almost +500. That + damage is all from stats.

What is the best place to farm for blood vials? I''m having real trouble running out all of the time.

for me I
port to central yarhman (I think its that one, the first one after the sick room) go left, through the house kill the four in there, up the stairs kill the two lycans and the giant with the crows, down the otherside and loop back round a bit, kill the two giants there, go through the elevator across the bridge kill everything on the bridge and the two beast things before you get to father g and then I jump off and kill myself and repeat

All in all takes about three minutes, and can net me 20 vials a run
6 from lycans
8 from the four giants
4 from the weird frenzy things
and usually some from the regular guys as you get rid of 12 of them on the way

spoilered just in case

So I killed the first boss last night finally. am I right in thinking
there's no way to progress at the end of the bridge? I have to find an alternate route somewhere? Seems a bit odd that the first boss ends up being a dead end.

Awesome, thank you! Thanks to the others who posted too.

Anyone got a Youtube link for the exact path you take to get to the V-boss without buying the key?
I should've saved it, but its the only way I knew

You have to head to where the abandoned workshop is, but get all the way to the bottom. Follow from there until you get to an elevator and ride that up, you will be on the other side of a closed gate outside the cathedral ward lantern which you can open with a lever.

Realizing you're in over your head and retreating can be part of the fun. There's no wrong way to play, though, and do what feels right to you, but I recommend dipping into faqs only when you feel lost, and try to scout out each area you find on your own first. That way you can enjoy a sense of discovery but avoid getting frustrated.

These games don't have a "difficulty slider"; the difficulty is instead infinitely adjustable based on how you play, whether you power level, look at guides, summon help, etc. All strategies are allowed, find what feels right and enjoy!

T___T Heart racing. Almost lost 90,000 echoes because I couldn't find my out of that
Forbidden Woods area with all the snake things
. I searched everywhere for a shortcut with only a small amount of life left.

I've been running around trying to beat the last few bosses only to realise that I had 43 insight points.

PSA If you're getting bogged down spend that insight at the second messenger bath. Don't give your enemies a leg up.

It's not just stats but gems as well.

Couple of hints:

- once you get used to his attack movements and projections, you can very easily get him down to 1/3 health by countering all of his attacks and dodging a lot
- watch for attack, counter, hold R2 for strong attack, repeat, profit
- (especially get used to dodging to one side whenever he makes a side-step himself. He very often makes a short dodge step then fires his shotgun)

- his third form is where shit gets fucked. He morphs at 1/3 health. I never had any trouble getting him to this stage, but he killed me quickly during three attempts at this point. However, afaik, hold-R2 strong attack staggers him slightly. Time it so that you can strike him when he's making an attack lunge, then dodge a lot and heal. Repeat. His health actually goes down quick when you hit him with this charged heavy attack.

One of my friends only beat him after 11 tries... But still beat him and felt good about it. And this guy is a seasoned Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 player. You're fine! Keep trying!

Wait, why on earth would you use the strong attack after a counter? Dash into their face and use the R1 and you get a visceral attack, the one with a unique animation, that does substantially more damage.

Optional boss technically, so that explains the dead-end.

Also, is my 99 insight on NG+ the reason that darkbeast Paal is WRECKING me? Because, I beat him second try on my first run and had no problems at all.

Is there anything special about the other hunters. I ran into a guy praying at a shrine and he asked if I wanted to be friends and share experiences. Is there a benefit to killing him or keeping him alive?

i took it on last night, died the first time and felt it out a little the second time.

Left arm swing is a safe dodge into for 2 hits minimum there.

I hard for more trouble with the first version of the boss. Was so much more aggressive.

I feel this game really rewards aggressive playstyles.

Last night, I went up against the S
hadows
of Y
harnam.

I was freaking out, playing too defensively, only getting a single hit here or there and then rolling away. Fight dragged on, I ended up using all 20 blood vials, and still died without getting a single kill.

Today, I just transformed to 2 handed Axe, put on some Bolt Paper, and just started getting in their faces and wailing away like a mad man. Only used 3 blood vials and finished the fight in 2 minutes. lol.

I feel like I'm close to the end now, what are the optional areas?

Nightmare Frontier?
?
The place where you find the Lightning Mace?
?

2 handed axe wrecks most bosses

Explore the area more, in and out.

Continuing from my previous post. Fextralife says if you didn't talk to Eileen in her second location, you will not be able to finish her questline. Is this confirmed? Anyone on gaf who was able to finish her quest despite not talking to her in Church Ward (but interacting with her in every other way)?

The zoning of enemies is weird sometimes. Some of the tougher enemies are jokes when you can just stand at the opposite side if a threahold, without having to worry about them crossing over to get you.

... Someone in OT1 said you could only do visceral attack when behind an enemy.

Several bosses in and I've been playing the game wrong the whole time...
