First play through seems to be 20-65 hours depending on play style, skill, thoroughness. I'm 44 hours in and not at the end game yet.

Seems like a weird omission considering how that was nearly a series mainstay. And for those who'd say "but it's not a Souls game!", well no, but Dark was a spiritual successor to Demon's just like this is a spiritual successor to Dark. There's still a lot of overlap so it seems weird to me that they'd cut one of my favourite aspects of the loot systems and take a step back in a sense.

Dark Souls was created to bring the series to multi-platform since Sony owns the rights to Demon's Souls.

Bloodborne is a deliberate change, not a necessity.

YOU WILL DIE A LOT.
Dying will result in reseting all enemies in the area.
There are very few "safe points", so be very cautious.
Bosses are brutal but extremely rewarding to kill.
Don't be afraid to ask for help once you can do it.

I missed her showdown against a hunter at the place where we fought Father Gascoigne and I wasn't aware of that. Several bosses in, I couldn't find her anymore in that place, but after defeating Rom, she shows up regardless as a hostile target in the grand cathedral.
 
So fire and Bolt are both tied to arcane right? if I use bolt of fire paper to fight a boss, is that getting extra damage too if I level my arcane?

I'm already looking forward to getting an arcane focused character with a Tonitus +10 heehhe

i'm using a kirkhammer, it's my weapon of choice that i want to use. but i've been seeing a lot of people taking him out using hunter axe and it seems good for the long range, but i need to use kirkhammer, i can't give up on it. this guy has been the bane of my yarnam existence for the last 5 days. i get so close but at the end
on his last beast form
he just pummels me bad and i can't even strafe my way clear. i feel like when i'd play street fighter against a really good player, i can't get out of his huge chain of combos. i've tried using
the music box
but that gets me in more trouble than not using it. i've definitely psyched myself out with him by this point, he's my ivan drago and he has been breaking me. i know it's just going to come down to a lucky match sooner or later but in the mean time i hate him so much.

Hunter form is pretty easy as you can use gravestones to cheese him and just pick off a few shots when you get the opportunity. His double spin attack gives you ample time to get a couple of hits in.

I only fought him the once but in beast form I just used the large structure in the centre as a buffer between us. I just kept on doing laps around it throwing the occasional Molotov until his heath was low enough to risk a few quick swipes.

To be honest using the kirkhammer will put you at a slight disadvantage as far as reach is concerned but it's not impossible.

apparently 40 - 60 hours i've heard

i'm on about 6 and a half and have only beaten two bosses

great game though so far!

is a shithead.
Tried soloing him about 10 times. Got him down to two hits max at most until death- and he combo-locked me. Best I ever did solo. That was pretty defeating.
Finally rang the damn bell, sat around for 30 min each time, and tried co-oping him. Each partner I had died within about a minute of the fight starting.
Eventually lucked out and got a partner that just kicked ass.

Beat him, only to find out
it seems to be just an optional boss, as all it does is give you access to Old Yharnam
. -_-

yet, but I've heard horror stories.

I mean, there's on set that actually looks like 'armour'. I get that the whole hunter mythos makes the focus on cloth fit the world more (and the cloth does look really, really good) but there's only so many cloaks/robes that I can deal with.

I remember being super excited when I found each chest/new vendor in prior games because it meant there'd be a new, more awesome set of armour to work towards. Not the case anymore when it's all interchangeable. And not just visually. The stats are almost the same. The only time you'd ever want to change up is when you go to the poison/frenzy areas as there's obvious sets for those.

Definitely my least favourite change from game to game. Sure, there's less trash loot clogging up your inventory but there's also less genuine excitement whenever I find a new item.

There is a note in that area that reads "A watchman of Byrgenwerth guards the gate with a password, the sacred adage of the Grand Cathedral." If you explore that courtyard, you'll undoubtedly find the staircase leading to a door that requires a password. You should be able to deduce that you need the password from the Grand Cathedral.

this seems to be the case, on my arcane build im gonna use the tonitus and the flamethrower and see how it goes

is 100% optional. I didn't go through there on my most recent run. Never even activated the lamp.

The only attack you can't easily punish is the constant slice and dice. She usually does it 3 times. Everything else is pretty easily telegraphed. When you get her to phase 2, it's a lot easier to just walk around the perimeter of the arena and run when the phantom appears to get away quickly. You can do this until it ends.

might I add
- use R3 (target enemy) a lot to find enemies hidden in the shadows or pesky crows you may have run into otherwise.

Great list though.

Or just turn on the new suspend/resume feature on the PS4, leave BB running for a day and then watch as all bosses only use their most basic attacks and never move onto their second phase.

Weirdest. Glitch. Ever.
 
Chalice Dungeons are such a mixed bag so far. Seems like half an idea. Hit depth 3 though so they are becoming a challenge. Just wish summoning wasn't such a hassle with the partner warping out after every layer.

In terms of level design you only need to look at the first area of DS1 compared to BB. In DS there was a a path to the left, right and center. To the left allowed you to try to enter an area from much later in the game, no gates, no locks, it's open of you dare. Then you can go to the center and you find this giant bird and you hear noises from under the fountain, instant mystery. Finally you have your main path up a hill to a bridge with a dragon.

In BB you go down set streets and paths, the only branching paths lead to optional areas in the same location. No way to access a new area until you progress in a linear fashion. The whole game is like that. Yes there are the occasional branching paths with two choices, one usually optional but the game does not feel totally connected like DS at all.

Yeah the game has the illusion of choice thanks to how huge the initial areas are, when really there is only one path most of the time. But those initial areas are probably as big as multiple Dark Souls areas strung together as one.

I'm with you completely. Like this may be the first of these games I don't platinum because I just really do not enjoy those things. Just beat the Lower Pthumeru one to get the Defiled Chalice and am just completely drained of all enjoyment after it and the previous ones. And I still have to do at least one of the other ones to even get mats for the Defiled.

Just really really not enjoyable for me. Hoping that after I beat the game again I will be high enough level to just trivialize them so maybe I can rush it. Hear that Defiled has some sort of debuff on you though so don't even know if that is possible.

I went to the top of the Cathedral and then dropped down the wooden beams to the bottom. Went out the tower and got killed by some large guys with sacks. Woke up in a cell.

Granted I've only played a short while after this but does this area link back up to where I was before? There's a path out the wall that takes me to
Darkbeast Paal
but the mist door is behid him.

I'm not really stuck or anything but sometimes the layout of the world and how it's all connected can be confusing.

Unseen Village and get grabbed.

I'm not ashamed to say I cheesed both of them by using the tree next to the house with the woman wailing as a barrier. Dropped down from high, pulled the blunder-hunter first, tree blocked his shots, my extended axe R2 could still hit him.
Did the same thing for the other hunter.

This area is connected to everything else in a couple ways, but the easiest way to get out is to find a lamp. It's not far from the cell. You'll realize what's up with this place later. You can take down
Darkbeast Paarl
and then a door opens up behind him that connects to ANOTHER area (this place is connected to a couple).

That second fucker drove me nuts. It's bad enough the enemies are as mobile as you are but then they have
infinite ammo
? C'mon.
