Yup, could imagine if you're running an arcane build that a blood gem saw spear is really good. Running a skill build myself so it doesn't do much for me.
I'm now running a Skill and Arcane build and it seems to work great. Can't realy use strength weapons but I don't like them anyways.

Just finished Byrgenwerth... 16 hours in and half the head stones more or less done. Is this game much shorter than DS2 or am I missing something.
Like 75% of the game's content is optional. There are more optional story bosses and areas than required ones. So you can't measure how much you've seen based on the headstones.

This is going to be a hard day at work. I ended up my night by killing Rom finally, way past "I think this is as far as I can go in this game" -thoughts had started to appear. So after the boss fight, I checked the new areas that open up and
oh boy didn't things just escalate into cosmic horror levels.
And then I went to sleep. Can't wait to play more!

I just beat that boss in the main campaign. Almost killed it on the first try, but didn't pay attention. Second try I noticed what was happening and I absolutely wrecked it. Fastest boss kill the whole game. Almost as fast as blowing Djura off the tower with my pistol. I hated one of the bosses I found in the dungeon from the main campaign. Can't imagine what this boss is going to be like.

Oh I killed the main game version 1st try in 30 sec. The chalice one is much harder. Having half health due to the chalice he either one shots me or take off 80% of it. Also despite having 50 skill and a saw spear +9 a 3 hit combo does ~480 damage or 3% of his health. I swear he has new attacks too as when I fought him in the main game he didn't seem as fast/aggressive and he spams his jump slam which OHKO's.

Plus the coolest area of the game IMO is optional for some reason.
the Castle

I'm almost all in on skill with a bit towards str and the rest has gone to vit and endurance. I probably should be using the cane, but oh well.

I'm only right at the beginning in Yarnham, but after I kill those regular towns folk around the fire, do I take on the big giant thing slamming on the door, or the other one on the other side of the level with the big cleaver? Or do I need to be a higher level for it? I don't think I've leveled up once yet.

I beat V
icar
A
melia
on the second try 0_0

I summoned in some people to help me just clear the guys on the way while I was exploring and we ended up going to her and killing her

I feel like I cheated it since everyone seemed to be having a hard time but...bloodborne giveth and bloodborne taketh away

That's probably true, however I still felt it took much longer to complete DS2 (so far, anyway)... maybe it was because that was my first Souls game.

The one with clever is near a door the links you back to the ladder you climbed in the beginning. They're both pretty tough to take down, I was able to do it though when I first started the game, just need to watch their attacks and dodge.

Ok cool. I wasn't sure because I've racked up a few thousand blood echoes and didn't want to lose them to an enemy I might die on more than once.

Should I take on the one with the cleaver first, or the one with the hammer slamming the door?

Nah, kill the mob, head through the arch, instead of turning right towards the brick troll, stay to the left and bust up some crates, drop down, backtrack through a house, and pull the lever to unlock the gate. This provides a shortcut from that spawn point. Once open, then hit the trolls.

I just read you can summon Father G to cleric beast fight somehow? How does that work?

What?

I'm going Skill build, took Arcane up to 15 to use the O

. Thinking about maybe taking Arcane up to maybe 20. I might buy a second Threaded Cane and turn it into n Elemental weapon. Still not sure.

Does anyone have tips for fighting the
hunter in the Grand Cathedral as part of Eileen's quest
? He is kicking me apart, his gunshots deal more than half of my health.

Finally beat the game after delaying two days. One shot both last bosses and used the cloud to get
all three endings in one go
.

I...I don't know what to do, now :(.

I have no understanding of what Arcane is in this game. What does it affect?

I've been using a strength build and sticking with the Hunter Axe

The Ogre with the rock/hammer is an easier enemy to dodge. Fairly easy to do charged back stabs.

The Executioner is one where you'll need to parry with your firearm for the best results. Doesn't take much to take down in that method. Has too many sweeping attacks and high hp for the dodge and hit method that'll work better on the other guy.

Honestly, I don't think there's much offered by either guy. Don't think there's any items where they are. The 2 or 3 vial drops are nice though.

tl;dr: Slammer is easier in needing to only dodge, hit, and easy to back stab. Executioner is difficult unless you have the parry down. Both not necessary to tackle for progression or items.

Arcane affects Fire and Bolt attacks, including molotovs. Sticking a fire or bolt gem into your weapon changes the scaling to Arcane only (strength and skill are ignored). Some enemies are weak to either element, and there are special items that act as the spells (note: these spells consume bullets) of this game. One spell is like the Chameleon spell in Dark Souls, it's hilarious to use.

Rom is the most lame and annoying boss I've ever encountered in a souls game, save for Darklurker from DS2 with a melee build. I understand the concept on how to beat him, but there's way too many bullshit instant death attacks. Co-op seems to be not working half the time here too.

Let him drain his HP till he pops his one and only vial. Then lead him to the stairs and throw poison knives and play safe. Someone here also said you can just run away when he starts draining his HP and he'll kill himself

I'm right here too. Shit sucks.

There's a point where
Stabs himself, so avoid him until he does that, once he does run down the stairs near the door of the cathedral, his health drains and he dies

You can.
There's a message/summoning spot (not left by a player) telling you if you need help, just ring the bell. It's down the left path from the central Y lamp, near that first torch wielding guy.

Right here with you guys. He feels so easy then I'll get immediately annihilated in 1 or 2 hits.

Cool. I think I'll do the shortcut before taking on Slammer. I've barely used the gun for parrying yet, so I can't imagine I'll be any good at it.

rom is so easy if you take your time.

Can you put fire gems on them without losing arcane damage?

No, the base damage converts into elemental damage & then it scales with arcane, functionally arcane is pretty good & does decent damage, I just thought that it was lame not having the weapon be engulfed in flame if you put a fire gemstone, so I decided to abandon it.
