That witch fight is bullshit.

I've taken people in with me, and they either fight the ash (ass) monsters, or the second phase of the fight goes awful once one of us is caught.

I can't backstab her like others are telling me to.

Bullshit bullshit bullshit. I'll just go fuck up Vic then.

Not sure if it was a bug but when I was summoned to that fight I couldnt actually see the witch things no matter how close, so a lot of the time doing crowd control while the host runs and fights the witches is a valid strategy
No need to backstab, just get in as many hits as possible then run around avoiding the beasts

You might need some more vitality or something. People on here saying that the blue ice is killing them in one shot must have not leveled up their vitality much.

I found Rom fairly easy. Hang back throughout the fight and when you see an opening sprint in and hit her on the side. Her head takes less damage. Hit her safely just once or twice if you think you have time and just roll a few times out of range of her adds. Rinse and repeat that. When she starts doing her ice attack animation I ran to one side and jump rolled and rarely got hit more than once.

Be Patient and pick your spots. I tried to help a bunch of people last night that would either try to kill all the adds or get too risky on hits to her and die

The magic attack isn't what's doing me in (I've tried this boss fight four times and I've only been hit by it once), it's the stupid defending spiders with the diving attacks. Most of the time they start the attack while I'm engaging another spider and I can't dodge in time before it hits, and each hit takes off 3/4 of my health.

The side quests are annoying me so much on the first playthrough. I already fucked up 3 of them.

Souls quests aren't necessarily designed to be beaten the first time around. The whole game is designed to be beaten multiple times in ng+. Personally I really enjoy the different outcomes.

I'm currently able to do one of
Cainhurst Castle, Upper Cathedral Ward or Mergo's Loft
but they're all kicking my arse. Any suggestions?

Do
Cainhurst
. Once you get past the
spider
enemies the rest of the area + the boss is a piece of cake.

These guys
are fucking hard as shit. I've been trying multiple ways of tackling the fight, but with little luck so far. Going to try again tonight. My strategy will be
dwindling down the two shadows with weapons to half health first, then take on and kill the fire ball asshole, then dwindle down the two enemies equally so that I can quickly kill them one after another before the last guy activates his third form
. I absolutely despise that
fire ball flinging guy though
.

Anyone else having trouble with summoning/invading other players?

It seems like it's a hit or miss. Last night I summoned and it would take anywhere between 1-5 minutes but it would eventually connect. Just do things around the lamp you summon at. That's helped me pass the time and it seems that I connect more around them.

She did for me until I
beat Vicar Amelia (my 4th boss in case it matters)
then she re-appeared outside the chapel.

Did you beat the
Hunter in The Tomb of Odeon with her? If so, she'll show up at the Grand Cathedral after the Rom boss fight.

I've been finding connections to be really quick - it's just the frame rate tanking that's bothering me. No idea why online play should affect frame rate.

finally slaughtered cleric, damn my heart beat was 200 :)

how to approach father?

I know "just go out and explore" isn't exactly the answer you are looking for but honestly, as long as you aren't stuck I think this is the best advise to give in a FROM game.

When I met R
om, he must have been bugged as hell. Since no projectile ever hit me, I could easily just run up, circle around the spiders and one-hit them with Tonitrus and then focus on his side until he did the bodyslam, run away, then rinse and repeat. Maybe 10 charged R2 on his side and he was dead.

tonitrus so good

Did that one on my first try :D. Though it was close. Just kept moving, danced in an out of there, no more than a couple of hits each time. Popped a beast pellet when I felt good about the fight. No idea what those do, but it propbably didn't hurt. Saved the fire ball guy for last. Once he was alone I wrecked his shit before he could throw anything else at me. It was awesome.

I don't think so, but I haven't got the update yet, so I could be wrong.
Just heard that they are patching out the duplication glitch.

This patch was primarily for the game ruining L. Key bug, but also took care of the dupe glitch and probably a handful of other things.

The load time patch will come later, as it's a harder engineering job than just a bug fix. I don't expect it to do much honestly. I hope they get the frame pacing fixed more.

Small (ish) things I love about this game:

1) Cape physics. Especially the gesture to shake/crack it
2) When those big pale dudes in the Cathedral Ward die they fall over and explode in white light...
3)...which sends your cape a-fluttering in a pleasing way
4) Ragoll physics. I'm so stuck in the early 2000's I know, but I love the way bad guys topple over and flop against whatever, occasionally in comedic heaps. A little light relief if you will. Also you can then shuffle them into position for arty screenshots
5) The density of stuff everywhere. Yes, I know it gets in the way occasionally, I've died a few times because I got stuck on a pile of barrel bits, but it makes the whole environment feel more alive somehow.
6) The crazy fur on enemies, Cleric Beast for example. Looks all matted and rancid, possibly not deliberately but it fits really well.

EDIT: Those are all physics type things aren't they. I'm so easily pleased ;_;

Transformed hunter axe, charge R2 all the time. Try to get the fire-spewing-guy to be behind the giant tombstone. Did it in my first try, barely took a hit.

yes
beat the hunter at the tomb. So after Rom I head to the Grand Cathedral and speak to Eileen to end her quest line?

Two random thoughts about late-game bosses:

Micolash has a really good voice actor. It would be really easy to make him seem hacky with that dialogue, but they pull it off.

(Final Boss)
Gehrman's music isn't that good, everyone's been hyping me up. I can't think of it right now and I've fought him a million times already. I love the "Tonight, Gehrman joins the hunt" line though.

No.
There's another hunter there. Be careful though cause that Hunter is harder than almost every boss in the game.

She should be just outside the door, after the Rom fight. You also won't be able to fast travel to the Grand Cathedral, until you do her quest

So in this game, there is this key that is really only accessible via a hidden path, which leads to a door, that in of itself is kind of hidden, which leads to AN ENTIRE FUCKING AREA that probably has the most atmosphere, music, and huge story details with multiple boss fights.

And apparently this place is optional that most people won't even find.

God I fucking love this game.

And the Cannon is this games Crystal Ring Shield pre nerf D:

Speaking of which, does anyone know what the 1.02 patch does?

If we're thinking of the same area, it ends up being unlocked anyway via a shortcut as you complete the main story. That annoyed me haha.

Edit: Oooh actually you're probably talking about a different one.

The Orphanage? I just got there, it's amazing.

Are you talking about
The Great Ones
?

Posting this again as it was at the bottom of a page, sorry.

If I don't level up bloodtinge at all, will there eventually be a point where I can't use it to parry/riposte? Or can I go through the whole game without levelling it and still be find, assuming I'm only using the gun to parry/riposte; not cause damage.

Any help greatly appreciated!
