So I dont have to search thru thousands of posts...

Does anybody know a link to a site that gives good advice for starting this game? I played for 1 1/2 hours last night and at best I got mabye 5 mintues into the game. I know I need to probably do a few things to help my chances and I am hoping there is a guide that can give me some good starting pointers.

Use Pungent Blood Cocktails when you want to heal, it's attracted to them. I noticed the one in the later Chalice Dungeons is a lot more aggressive.

You can even use them for a cheeky Visceral Attack if you time a charged R2 properly. (From behind)
Tried the cocktails. He didn't give one fuck and proceeded to crush my face in. My favorite is his super long punch that literally one shots you.

The area with the
Witch ladies
might be one of the most gorgeous and amazing levels I have ever seen.

Bloodborne in general is so amazing looking. The artists stepped their game up huge with this one.

HOOOOLYYYY FUUUUCKK I DID THE CLERIC BEAST!!!!!

Congrats man. Dat feeling you get when you beat a tough boss will keep you coming back. You would totally miss out on that if you just had someone do it for you.

My accounting class is about to start but ill try to reply if people agree/disagree.

Story speculation:
So with thr good ending you are reborn as a great one, eith this we can assume some of the great ones used to be human. My assumption is that Rom is one of the humans turned great one based on Micolash's dialouge during his fight "grant us eyes, grant us eyes... as you once did the vaccuos Rom. this is all said while he is wearing the head armor "Mensis cage" which in the item description was said to be used to communicate with the great ones.
i dont have access to the game at the moment so this is from memory

Also, i got the
Betrothal Ring
in chalice dungeons, anything i can do with it besides get turned down by the queen? Tried to give it to A
rianna
because ofnwhat haopens in her storyline and nothing happened.

Due to popular demand, here's the video of me obliterating A
mygdala
(optional boss) with my Cannon.

The 2nd shot missed the head so it only did 700 damage.

That's obscene man.. cannon shots applied directly to the forehead. I beat her by attacking her arms since it was pretty safe though I knew her head was the weaker spot I only got one hit in on it. Will have to try this.

Whooboy, I'm doing a skill build and the whip has been good to me, but I just unlocked
Blades of mercy
and it absolutely tears up. R1 after 3 swings totally stun locks enemies. With my high endurance and
hunter covenant
most enemies don't break free until they are dead. Still love my cane whip for crowds and crows though.

Can someone explain covenants or is there a guide on them or something? I've gone through 2/3 of the game and don't think I've even crossed one.

After 10 times I finally beat
Rom
! I'm so pumped I don't think I will be able to calm down and sleep for a while...

A lot of people recommended staying on top/being aggressive against
Rom
. I saw most people on Youtube doing the same thing. However, it didn't work for me so I made the fight really long by
killing all the small spiders, then attacking Rom. I did this with the next 2 phases as well. Really, once I get rid of all the small spiders it became quite easy. All I had to worry about was the ice shards, which are easier to dodge when you don't have to worry about all the small spiders. His attacks were also easy to evade.

Is
Cainhurst Castle
way more difficult than
Unseen Village
? The former area looks REALLY cool. I only checked it out for a couple minutes when I
found the invitation
. The 1st couple enemies I encountered there gave me some trouble.

Any tips for that horrible amorphous blob
Rom?
I can't seem to pick up a strategy at all. I'm ignoring the adds but it still seems to be pure luck whether or not I get OHKO'd. By the final phase what little windows to attack I had just seem completely gone and the only brief chance results in death by the adds. Is it just luck based or is there a better way than this?

Asked earlier but thread ran away too quick:

Is there an elemental/deeper levelling system for weapons beyond upgrading them with bloodstone shards?

I'm upgrading my axe quite a lot, but am worried that I'll level it to +6 or something and miss the opportunity to specialise it, like we could in Dark Souls at +5.

I get a gut feeling there isn't though, because blood gems seem to fill this gap.

No. Those enemies are only in that one spot and they`re the hardest thing about that area.

I'm glad I found it before the sun went down. The intro to that area is the first time in a while I've had to just stop and stare at a game.

Other than that the only thing I can suggest is to make sure to use Fire Paper, raises your damage by a lot against it.

I don't understand this... you're 1.5 hours into the game, not 5 minutes. Are you saying you're still in the first area? That's normal (at least for me it was). I explored Central Yharnam for many hours before managing to beat the first boss. Discover every secret you can.

Wow.

What is your Bloodtinge up to? I assume you need that pretty high to do that much damage (along with other things).

It has shit scaling. Most of that is just from the upgrades. It is for strength builds, if you feel like the other OP weapon isn't OP enough.

I've been dominating this game so far but I'm getting smashed by
vicar amelia
. If she is my 4th boss am I facing her too early? Is she optional?

3rd/4th is around the right time, and you basically can't do much else until you beat her. You can go to the left of the cathedral and check out that area though.

I wonder what the overall consensus of this game is for you guys. I like it more than DSII, but maybe not as much as DS1. It's deffinately a bit shorter, but makes it up with like 3 areas that are hidden and completely optional.

I think some of the optional areas are really weak. The whole Chalice Dungeon side activity seems to drag the game down a lot. It relies too much and copy/paste rooms and repeating bosses. And that is considering the pre-made dungeons...

Man.. fuck the
Bloodletting Beast
. I've killed all the story bosses and this chalice boss is the only one so far that is a major pain in the ass.

Any tips? I am level 97ish and he just crushes me.

I just beat that one. It's definitely a lot nastier than the 'original' but it still has some exploitable parry windows. The best ones are when it does the right arm swipe (not the dashing slash, that doesn't seem counterable) and its combo moves. It has one move where it bites then follows up with a very slow slash with its left claw, you can shoot him during that easily and he spams the fuck out of the move at low hp.

I'm sure there's an easier way but counters are what worked for me. I equipped a bunch of visceral attack improving runes too.

Also learn the tell for the grab, as it'll probably kill you. I was able to survive it with a tiny sliver of hp (enough time to chug a vial) but I've invested heavily in vit. I think I had around 36 or so.

Bumping this again. Anyone have a quick reference to what the letters mean on the weapons (A, B, C, S) and what strategy is good for the average player?

I finished depth 2 dungeons like 3 times and still don't have the access to depth 3!! what am I supposed to do ?

You need to get the material to make your own depth 3.

You likely need to make your own depth 2 and go through it. The last boss of depth 2 should drop the item you need.

Also shouldn't it be possible to
intentionally die to the final boss
to go back and complete the optional stuff?

I like that it's better balanced than Dark Souls, doesn't have areas that frustrate the hell out of me (I'm looking at you, final 10% of the game!) and the coop actually works unlike Dark Souls which wouldn't let me connect with anybody ever.

So overall I think I love it more than Dark Souls.

Scaling of weapon damage with that particular stat.

S scale is the best scailing. Then A,B,C,D,E.

So if you have invested in the skill stat, you would want to use weapons that that have B+ scaling in that stat. Some weapons scale with multiple stats. It can be tricky since there isn't respect and you find a weapon who's moveset/abilities you like, but have built your character in a totally different manner than what that weapon requires. That is why there are multiple playthroughs :)

Aside from forging your weapons with Bloodstones, I know there are Blood Gem Imprint slots for each weapon as you upgrade. Can you swap out Blood Gems from the weapons after you've inserted them?

I have a bunch of Blood Gems, but most of them are duplicates or garbage...what should I do with them? Sell or is there someway to combine gems?

Thanks!
