Illusory Revelations#FE (SMTxFE) - First Trailer, Winter 2015 [Up: Screenshots]

I'm surprised there's so much speculation already when all we saw was a small part. I hope people calm down and wait for more news. I'm looking forward to this.

No, not even a little.
What's the issue?
It's practically nothing like SMT or Fire Emblem. Why do we need to start addressing fan service in the first trailer? This image shows how over the top Atlus went in transforming this title into something that is nothing like what it is based on. That's what's wrong with it.

But even if this was it's own thing I'd still take issue with the nature of the situation + fan service. It's just so stupid.

Persona 5: Fuck yess!!! Oh my god!! All over my body!! YESSS YESSS!!!!!

SMTXFE: Wtf is this shit? Looks like Persona!! Garbage!!

mNX.gif

- Persona 5 looks way better than this shit

- It was announced as SMTXFire Emblem not PersonaXFire Emblem

- It was announced using art from SMT2, Nocture, SMTIV, etc, not Persona

It's like Microsoft announcing a crossover title with Capcom using concept art from Halo and Devil May Cry and the final games turns out to be a crossover of Dance Central and Zack & Wiki

And we all thought it was dead, glad they finally revealed it.

Holy shit all the rumors leading up to the direct came true.

No FE characters,no SMT characters, no demons, school teenage moe uguu shit that would still look weird if it were Persona x FE Awakening, no Dante from the Devil May Cry™ series, and this:

This is what FE and SMT have turned into :(

Rewatch the trailer, there are characters clearly based off SMT & Fire Emblem designs and they fight atleast 3 demons. I'm pretty sure Marth was even in the trailer. I agree it looks more like Persona X Fire Emblem and i personally think this was a very smart move. Persona has been bringing all the success and hype lately, this is already a niche game on a console thats been dying since launch, making it grim and gloomy on a Nintendo home console would have resulted in even lower sales than its going to get when it finally releases on the Wii U.

Anyway sorry your disappointed but game play is what matters here and we won't know about that until release so it might surprise you.

No I couldnt undertstand you the first time because using anime as a genre descriptor is nonsense, the only commonality between its various texts are the medium. Similarly your attempt to be clever above would probably be better if it were a proper sentence. But its ok I get the gist of it.

Oh, sorry, didn't think I couldn't use a term commonly used with a negative connotation flippantly because someone would take issue with it pedantically.

I'm a fan of anime. Of all sorts and of all genres. I don't really care about using it as a "nonsense descriptor" when I feel like it. I'll say it again, "this game looks anime as hell."

Not really. That's about as anime as you can get.

I think people confuse "anime" with "animu".

Something lik Nocturne is serious about its themes and takes itself seriously, and its artstyle not so ridiculous and over the top. that is anime.

This looks unfortunately too much on the side of animu with all the boobs and needless fanservice and random stuff going on. Its worse because it has the FE name attached.

I don't have an issue with fanservice or boobs in moderation, but this just looks like low brow conception 2 stuff or something, not an SMT game, especially with the FE logo on it. FE was always medieval relatively down to earth anime toned in my experience,

Its almost like things change or the game was in an incredibly early state when first announced. It really sounds like people just wanted fire emblem and smt put in a blender and then served up. Instead of a new idea using those series as a base.

The thing is that SMT x FE was probably just a pre-concept name. After 2 years, I would expect some changes.

Ignoring how generic the art and character design looks, this really looks bad from a graphical perspective. I was shocked to hear it's a Wii U game.

Really? It looks fine for a Wii U game...especially from two devs who generally haven't put out a whole bunch of HD content in recent years Not sure who is developing this but Persona 5 took forever for a reason.

I think people need to actually go back and play some older games for better perspective.

Plus it's not done.

FE not too animu? The fuck are you talking about?

Even Persona (the new one) have Fanservices.

The problem, imho is the color, it's too bright, make the trailer look "too anime" (whatever that mean) to other peoples.

Literally not a single Persona fanservice shot in the entire trailer you linked.

(Which is not to say there isn't any in the Persona games, and that it isn't terrible, but it's not a significant part of the game.)

EDIT: Apologies, there was a full half-a-second of one fanservice-y shot.

They shouldn't have thrown out art from SMT1-3 when they had nothing of the sort in mind. More likely they realized it wasn't profitable(which let's be honest is pretty accurate) and hired some Compile Heart guys to show them the way to $$$.

You're acting like the only reason SMTxFE could potentially be good is if you like fan service. It will be a good game despite it. Just like Awakening was a good game despite the bullshit nobody asked for.

I'm not even commenting on the quality of the game. I'm just disappointed that a game hyped as a crossover for two years resembles neither of the games it's supposed to be starring. I'm not big on the overt fanservice they decided to highlight for the trailer either.

I was pretty shocked by the trailer too, couldn't believe it was the crossover until they said so afterwards. Man.

That said I'm still really interested. The animu is not putting me off at all. It really is Persona x FE more than SMT though.

Very true, its what is boggling my mind? I went back and popped in FE:A again and the character designs in the cutscenes look very similar, the armor design is similar, hell the girl even flys in on a digitized PEGASUS!? It clearly has FE inspirations, and I guess the... teens? Are the other reference? Although going back to SMTIV it was about 4 kids as well and had a anime look to it, but eh I guess with time people forget this kind of thing.

I understand that the game changes, but really? The tone is entirely different from the initial reveal to now. It may be the case where the trailer doesn't share the same tone as the game, but at this point I don't think that is the case.

The long-haired girl is the designated fanservice girl, I guess. Meanwhile that other girl didn't even get an anime scene when her design looks way better.

That was fucking terrible actually.

I don't see how in any way that trailer remotely represents either franchises. We got candy soaked colors, lollipops, animu and blaring j-pop music...

That's um... not what I think of when I think of SMT and Fire Emblem.

I honestly thought this was a new Idolmaster or something at first and it wasn't until I started seeing battle footage that I realized it was supposed to be SMTxFE. It looks absolutely nothing like either besides being anime-ish. I don't even know where the Fire Emblem enters into it. Is that blue haired girl supposed to be Marth or something? wtf

Also looks like cosplay waifus: the video game. I would be embarrassed to be seen playing this, and I'm a Tales series fan. lol

Now we differentiate between 'anime' and 'animu' to protect the franchise we love on the one hand and take a dump on a experimental game that is in development on the other?

There was that facet to Rise due to her being an idol... but they did twist it in an interesting way in the game itself. However, I don't think there was much like what is featured here though with exploding clothing and such.

We should all be having the more important questions about this game.

When and where is it set within the MegaTen multiverse?

Will it feature Dante from the Devil May Cry™ series?

Where's Jack Frost hee-ho?

I was expecting the game to be alot more serious and not too anime....

I'm still buying it on Day 1 though since the gameplay will probably be amazing.

Fire Emblem has been very anime tho.

I can't really speak on SMT, I've only played one entry in the main series.

Straight up though, I don't really think this looks anything like Persona other than the school setting. Crazy motorcycles, pegasus mounts, energy weapons, fantasy armor, floating heads on wheels, giant monsters, etc. Even the running around Shibuya looks like it's more SMT/DDS than Persona, at least the earlier ones anyway.

If anything, this is like SMT + Digimon + FE, lol

Their only mistake was announcing the project too early. Its very common for a piece of media to undergo changes very early on.

I...have no idea what I just watched.

I don't know if I like it, either.

When I envisioned SMTXFE, I sort of imagined a post-apocalyptic Japan (caused from a space time rift where one of the FE Dragons broke through and destroyed our world) with tactical battles, demon summoning, Fire Emblem classes and light dungeon crawling.

Team Maniax though? I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I loved SMT IV.
