Has demons like SMT, has a main weapon and a gun like older SMT games from what I hear.

Also seems dark like SMT games.

Yep, this entire gif seems to be taken from the same battle turn.

I'm really curious to see more battle gameplay

As well as what more exploration in the real world will be like.

Man I effing love those coloured silhouettes in the city. Also, battles do look interesting with the turn orders likely being based on character/enemy speed stats and combos added to the mixed. So hyped!!

Tiki herself appears in the trailer, not only in that poster. It's based on the young Tiki though, rather than Awakening's.

The official site indicates we'll see more FE characters revealed later too. It doesn't sound like we're getting SMT characters though...

The original reveal used the "Shin Megami Tensei" title even in Japan, where it's basically only used for mainline games. This re-reveal uses the "Ibunroku" title though, basically placing this in the same category as Persona and Devil Survivor.
Didn't notice any Fire Emblem stuff at all. Guess it's time to try harder.

Thanks for the clarification on the Japanese name change. DeSu1 was still pretty darn grin though, and what I've played of DDS was also grim. If there was actual reason to believe this would be as dark as main line, then that is a bummer and i do prefer dark myself, but this doesn't have to be the end of the world. Think Perfect Blue. Can still be pop idol anime and also dark and weird.

I'm still holding out for Demi Fiend punching Marth in the face.

Secret boss battles with MegaTen characters would be great

This just feels like a new MegaTen IP with FE elements. I'll take it as I'm not in the position to complain about: 1) WiiU games; 2) HD Atlus RPGs. Looking forward to 2016 with both this and Persona 5.

And hopefully at some point someone lets Kaneko out the basement and makes him do character designs.

Soooooooo why the comparisons to Persona? Other than being anime-y I don't see much in common with Persona. I don't see much SMT or FE either though.

I'm just hyped that we are getting a new JRPG on consoles from motherfucking Atlus (and IS) AND Persona 5 too.

shit is cray

Animey, school setting, seemingly turn based battles with some combo twist plus the overall aesthetic

I understand all of that, but I get the same "anime" vibe from both, except that P5 is channeling this 70s TV show theme. Honestly, I like the art style for the SMT x FE game better. But this stuff is all subjective anyway.

I don't mind the "anime" style.

But P5 representes a style of anime I find enjoyable (at least from what we have seen so far)
And this game represents a style of anime I hate (at least from what we have seen so far)

Everyone hating on this should just be thankful it isn't either cancelled or vaporware.

It looks awesome to me. Been a big fan of Atlus for years so there's no doubt in my mind that this is going to be amazing!

Or probably something ATB like? hopefully there'll be more gameplay mechanics reveal, at least during E3 later

Didn't realize the song title is mentioned in the trailer. Will rewatch later

Maybe, this is where us not seeing the actually battle screen is hurting us so badly. Then again, if they DID show the battle screen, we would be labeling the battle system "Persona style" or "SMT style" instead. Maybe it's like that because we choose the attacks and the entire turn goes at once?

This game looks pretty decent. In fact, it appeals to me more than Xenoblade X does. Then again, I've always liked the Atlus use of urban Tokyo settings.

If we take it in the context of SMT, FE and Persona, happy high school teen idols bears more of a resemblance to Persona than either of the other 2 franchises.

While I'm still interested in the game either way, the anticipation for the game to be rated M shown at the beginning of the English trailer makes me think that there's something more going on here beneath the hyper-anime aesthetic. Time will tell.

Also, and maybe I'm grasping at straws here, but the game being called Illusory Revelations is interesting.

Might you want to explain what makes it look great? Even us being optimistic here still can't really make enough out of the trailer to declare it to look great.
It's essentially looking like a Persona game with Nintendo characters. It has turn based battles, looks colorful, character and world design looks interesting...

But sure, let's get hung up on it being ANIME - unlike Persona amirite - and the song being shit.

Yea this looks way more like a Persona game with Fire Emblem characters as personas/summons. I assume the story line will be more along the lines of an SMT game but the aesthetics and gameplay looks way more persona. Not that I'm complaining. Another reason to be glad I own a WiiU!

I thought the battle sequence looked great though I'll need to see more of it before coming to a full conclusion.

Has demons like SMT old Persona, has a main weapon and a gun like older SMT Persona games from what I hear.

Also seems dark like SMT games.
Add in the high school dynamic and social links, remove Tokyo, and it seems very much like... Persona. Not a bad thing, but no, people would legitimately be upset if P5 was revealed to be SMT5.

This was never supposed to be, even if it was using the actual name it was always done kind of crossover, yet it still has some distinctive SMT elements as well.

Uh, the black and white color scheme does not make a game dark. If anything, I get a playful style from P5 than dark. I got way more dark in those last few seconds of FE with that destroyed city than I do with P5.

Also, demons are everywhere in Persona (and any SMT game for that matter).

Guys, I really do not understand the reaction even reading this

Hitoshi Yamagami: “For a long time, I wanted to create a FE on ours times, on the real world. Imagine a Pegasus that comes from the sky and lands on the Building 109 of Shibuya, Tokyo. I always though that would be incredible. At the same time, I know it’s hard because of how FE is. I visited many companies to express these ideas. When I went to Atlus, I was told that Shin Megami Tensei together with Fire Emblem is what I wanted. So, I soon said that to Intelligent Systems and started this very special collaboration. Oops! I shouldn’t say that the game takes place in the real world. We haven’t announced it, right?”
Others: \”Not Really\”
Mashahiro Higuchi: \”Not Yet\”
Hitoshi Yamagami: \”Well anyway, this is how the project was born, mixing these kinds of ideas. I\’m sure you\’ll get to see the birth of a new franchise and new ideas.\”

C'mon. This is not new.

Well when you call the damn game SMT x FE and you have zero SMT, why even bother calling it that in the first place?

Since it wasn't even announced as a mainline game, I think everyone should've went in with no expectations.

I mean a part of me thought it was gonna be a fighting game at first.

Yeah. It looks nothing like Persona. Don't make me whip out a Persona list of unique and great traits, lol

They're high schoolers, and the colors are more vibrant than SMT has had. Not really Persona. Just more "anime". Which is less Persona and more "like every other JRPG" out there. They should have focused more on whatever the post apocalyptic stuff hinted at was.

Mind you, I was only asking him that because the trailer does a horrible job of getting a coherent message about what the game is and what should be expected from it across.

Its not even called that.

It's not necessarily just a cost choice. It's also an easy way to make a scene look more vibrant with less effort when it would otherwise be filled with a few types of background characters repeated. It's not an uncommon method in anime either.

Another good point, could be stylistic in nature you're right.

I'm betting on a story reason though!

I'll agree that it's overall a bad trailer. Theme song isn't doing any favors either.

But to call it garbage right off the bat is just... no.

I had an idea in my head of a Fire Emblem game where you choose from a team of SMT demons before battle, FF Tactics style. Of course, I knew that it could be anything at all, so I kept my expectations firmly in check - in fact I was convinced that it had been quietly cancelled.

None of that excuses that abomination of a trailer, though. Where's the Fire Emblem? Where's the SMT? It looks like a C-tier fanservice JRPG with FE character cameos. What the hell?

Knowing Nintendo they'll probably ensure it plays well but it is absolutely not 'what it said on the tin' and that level of fanservice is ludicrous.

Ohhh this looks pretty cool. Was a bit whatever at first about it since I wanted SMT mainline strategy game, then I remembered I still got Devil Survivor 1 and that's pretty good.

Pretty excited to see how this game turns out though once we start getting more gameplay information. Art style has really grown on me. Fanservice stuff doesn't seem bad at all, seems to be the same as Persona with the different costumes including swimsuit costumes and such.

.

Devil Survivor exists, it's pretty much what you are looking for if you want SMT demons with FFT style setup and regular turn based battles.

And it doesn't even have the SMT part to the title anymore!

It never did, technically. That was added for the western releases to give it more of a brand awareness.

I didn't call it garbage. I'm on the cautiously optimistic side of this, lol. I do understand where people disappointed are coming from, though.

Boy, hyping this up as SMTxFE was probably a bad idea in hindsight, since it doesn't really seem to have much to appeal to fans of either franchise.

Oh well, looks cool... I guess? Could do without the copious amounts of fanserivce. That's getting real old lately.

I had no real expectations going in but I'll admit having SMT right there in the working title did set me up with some preconceptions.

If I think of this as a modern day FE, I can get behind it more easily.

...just tone down the idols and the fan service. Awakening wasn't super dark by any means but it wasn't teen idols happy either. I'm hoping the game is at least a little but more dark than what the majority of this trailer shows.
