Illusory Revelations#FE (SMTxFE) - First Trailer, Winter 2015 [Up: Screenshots]

How are people disparaging SMT or Fire Emblem?

Read this thread, man.

Saying that classic Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei has always been anime isn't a slight or insult, its just stating simple facts. Their aesthetic and stories were always inspired by the kinds of things that were popular in their time. That's normal.

There's that, but that doesn't mean that fanservice in Shin Megami Tensei has always been equivalent to that of a game series like Hyperdimension Neptunia, now does it?

Same ,
I just want more JRPG man, and WiiU have like zero of them. Nintendo doesn't even bother with Paper Mario RPG man, i need a good console JRPG.

Arguably WiiU actually has the most genuine, made for console JRPGs, well that are going to come out atleast.

This is actually pretty much everything I wanted out of the project, so that's cool. I wish it was more cellshaded, but it looks pretty cool

Someone should put some quotes from the site in the OP.

The whole thing is incredibly deliberate on their part, it seems, as is the norm for them.

It was pretty good.

Angel Beats rocked so if this turns out anything like that show I'm game.

And we'd get better music at least pls atlus pls
My people :)

I dont hate it and it has my curiosity. but I was thinking more berserk in modern era before the reveal
Embrace the randomness, the more you watch it, the more you'll think "I'm ok with this".

Read this thread, man.
I wouldn't wish upon anyone to read what this thread went through.

Ah, so Nintendo is getting their own Persona here ;).

Because it looks like something ripped right out of a Persona game (at least the high-school and creature design wise)....and that is an amazing thing :D! It seems that the original idea of FE x SMT was to simply mix the franchises into a blender of the rosters from both series but with gameplay elements from each series as well (FE pera-death for troops and auto-battles and SMT with deep dungeon designs and very warped creature designs/story).

But, it looks like that concept was morphed into a game using FE and SMT features/elements/mechanics but its core story and world might as well be its own thing.

If that is the case, good on them then :); go all out if you are making a game with a lot of new ideas :D. With this getting a fall release in JP, that brings hope we will be seeing this in NA/EU sometime early 2016 :).

You are talking about Shin Megami Tensei, the series that has had angels in bondage gear on its covers.

In any case, I have absolutely no idea who these people you have been talking about actually are or what they have been saying. It would help if you named names or quoted specific posts. As it is, I am having a really hard time following what you are talking about. Saying "read this thread" doesn't exactly narrow it down so long as you responding to a vague "people in this thread".

I'm definitely not going through this thread again to handpick examples, but are you saying that fanservice in Hyperdimension Neptunia is equivalent to Kaneko's demon designs in SMT?

I... man, I think I'll just sit this one out.

It was SMT II for the PlayStation, and it was a pretty neat way of depicting the law side, in contrast with the marble demons around the SMT logo for the PlayStation remake of the previous game.

I'm getting a bit tired of this false equivalence, here. #FE is very different from Fire Emblem and even modern Persona, I think I can accept it as the Devil Survivor team's take on a Fire Emblem RPG and it's pretty neat.

But it's really... not what I was expecting, in any way.

There was a back and forth related to whether Fire Emblem is "a waifu franchise" stemming from this post:

I understand people might have expected something more like Project X Zone but I'm a bit confused about the anime complaints. Like these are two of the most waifu franchises out there, it's perhaps the only thing they have in common (especially the modern games).

Anyway, I'm sure if they initially announced it differently people would be Persona 5 levels of hype but I'm sure people will come around.

Not exactly what I expected, in fact, it's nothing like what I expected. :P

Could be good though, I'll play the wait and see game with this one.

Now, we cant be sure about this, as far as we know this was always the concept. FExSMT was announced too early so the game that most people imagined ended up different, maybe they changed some things, or it just evolved in a way as development advanced.

I only remember IS talking about wanting FE on a "modern" setting.

She's solar powered man the more skin she has exposed to the light the more power she can get.

Now that is something. Maybe she is a plant?

Welp.

Where was this ever imply in the trailer ? please point it out.

Also for the bikini armor theory: It's magic, the guy who make the armor is a genius but also a pervert, his strongest armor is a bikini. Any question ?

I think you're reading too much into it, we've zero context but given her companions reactions theyre equally shocked/surprised and its followed by a close-up of the enemy idol so maybe they confront the enemy idol and she thinks "Bitch isnt going to out-idol me!" *Idol transform*, the scene looks like its meant to be played for laughs to me. Either way, perhaps its best to get some context before praising/condeming anything

yeah sure, it could be that. Say it is. Even that is a problem. And nah, as soon as they release a trailer they should expect reaction, hell they want a reaction. And this is reaction.

Nothing wrong with reactions, but theyre spiralling pretty far out on both sides of the fence based on very little material and next to no context. People need some perspective.

Okay, that's a stupid post. This would have been a lot easier if FluxWave was actually clear what he was talking about. All I saw was the early use of the words "anime" to describe the look of this game, which was also pretty stupid considering that classic SMT and FE were also anime for their time.

People not seeing it are a lost cause. Apparently equivalent:

As much as I love the Nep series, if I was expecting the first and got the second, I wouldn't be happy.

Can't wait untill a new trailer is release and everyone here who has wasted breath on a 2 min pv will have a full 180 on this game.

It's neither SMT nor FE.

What the heck is this?

It's more Persona + dash 'o animu nonsense.

Highschool again. Argh.

day 1

Sorry if this has been answered already, but did the Japanese Direct mention anything specifically about actual FE characters appearing like in the US Direct?

EDIT: NVM found my answer.

My reactions watching the direct:

Oh man, Atlus logo. Everyone is going to be so disappointed when it's not SMTxFE. Looks like one of those 3rd party games Atlus localizes like Conception.

Wait, is this for Wii U? I don't remember any JRPGs being around for them to localize.

....This is WHAT?!

Okay, now who exactly called those equivalent? FluxWaveZ was responding to me, but I wouldn't call those the same. What is the same is Atlus desire to appeal to what is popular contemporary to the releases of their games. What is popular in Japanese pop-culture has changed, and so has Atlus' games.

To be honest though, the aesthetic of this game screams "Persona" to me. The look is mostly Tokusatsu inspired, which has always been a big source of inspiration for the designs of SMT/Persona demons. It has that Persona off-beat design to the costumes, vehicles, and enemies.

And the Persona series has never been above fanservice. Have people forgotten the High-Cut Armor from Persona 3 already?
