Illusory Revelations#FE (SMTxFE) - First Trailer, Winter 2015 [Up: Screenshots]

I'm dead.

Bill said in the direct it was SMT x FE I think..
Now I can't even remember, pretty sure he said crossover though.

I didn't see the direct until I got home LOL, so sorry about that. I saw them confirm it was SMTxFE. Honestly I got hype as fuck when I saw the main guy walking around the city. I'm excited for this game and I already watched the trailer like 5 times already.

I guess it's more like a modern Chrono Trigger in that the people behind Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest come together, but rather than make a crossover of the games they make something of a stylistic mash up. Which might be more interesting, as absurd as a proper crossover would have been.

Nothing wrong with reactions, but theyre spiralling pretty far out on both sides of the fence based on very little material and next to no context. People need some perspective.

hmm, that I can agree with. Haven't really followed everything since I'm sleeping. Just very strange how 30 seconds of a game can feel so different now when we've gotten 107 seconds more. Don't get me wrong when I say this.

I like sexy in games. I don't like pandering. That trailer. It's pandering. We are discussing the trailer right?

People not seeing it are a lost cause. Apparently equivalent:

As much as I love the Nep series, if I was expecting the first and got the second, I wouldn't be happy.

ok....I think I need to go back and read the thread from start....this is really fucking weird.

And the context of that screen is ......... ? what ?

She is plant and needs to power up, and the more sunlight caresses her the more powerful she gets. Dude, it's the trailer I'm bashing. Especially that part.

If you are to present something and can't put it in context then it's just bullshit. And this is bullshit. Or do you perhaps have another trailer I didn't see?

Wait did people actually want some awkward crossover with Fire Emblem characters hanging out with SMT characters? I'm happy it looks like a legit RPG that stands on its own while taking from both franchises, instead of some dumb Cross Edge type mashup.

100% this. I never figured SMTxFE would be a straight crossover. I figured it'd be more of a thematic one with cameos. Granted, this delves way further to the Persona side of things from the looks of it than I was expecting, but I'll take it - in fact that's honestly an improvement to me. Besides, the video does little to show exactly how serious the tone of the game might be, magical robot unicorns and pop theme songs aside. A straight crossover would have likely been a pretty terrible game. I'm not even sure how they do that without shoehorning FE characters into a Devil Survivor like battle system.

I just hope the game retains some of FE's tactical combat systems. Even if it's not actually a stratagy RPG, I really hope it has some of the FE elements (like the weapon triangle and the classes/weaknesses).

Eh, I don't think that's true at all. That's a big reason why I've held off of a Wii U until Xenoblade.

Im not saying the Wiiu is the paragon of console RPGs, but im not aware of many PS4 only announced JRPGs in comparison.

This looks a lot like persona 4 to me. I'm probably going to get this, since I love RPGs. The Wii U won't have many RPGs over it's short lifetime, so a more standard, linear anime-themed JRPG will be nice to have alongside something like Xenoblade X.

Okay, then try to put the Rise's swimsuit scene and Yukiko's showing cleavage scene in the persona 4 trailer in context.

What i mean is that you don't even know what happen at that scene, it can be a joke between them (Her henshin got malfunction but she don't know ?), the enemy mind control her ..... a hundred thing can happen in that scene and not your
what I first thought was naked but was a swimsuite, and lose a strip poker contest to power up?
Where is the part in the trailer that she got power up doing that ? Or you just make up a reason to hate that scene.

Now, we cant be sure about this, as far as we know this was always the concept. FExSMT was announced too early so the game that most people imagined ended up different, maybe they changed some things, or it just evolved in a way as development advanced.

I only remember IS talking about wanting FE on a "modern" setting.

You're right; I'm just assuming that considering what was presented to us when the game was first announced (FE and SMT characters crossing over).

Either way, I'm happy with what this looks like :D! Love Persona 4 Golden and Persona 3 Portable and really enjoyed the demo I played of FE: Awakening....so mixing both of those elements together into a Persona-like game? Sign me up man :D!

Granted, it is a shame that the game isn't sticking true to both its FE and SMT roots (as of now; we need to see more of the game to confirm this), but what was presented to us looks really interesting and I can't wait to see what both Atlus and Nintendo do with this game for E3 and TGS :D.

The character designs are pretty yuck but I do find the idea of summoning Fire Emblem characters like they were demons to be pretty intriguing, if I'm interpreting the trailer correctly.

EDIT: Though I will admit that my reaction to Iwata saying the trailer I just watched was SMTxFE to be "wut."

I'm only about ~60% sure about what the hell this is... but I'm still excited.

I really should get back to SMT4 and FE:A at some point.

Why the hell are people so hard to understand what a trailer is.

It's supposed to be representative of the game. It's supposed to give you context for the game. It's supposed to make you buy the thing.
Here we have a trailer which presents itself in this way and should so be judged in that way. Why exactly are people so prone to defend something that looks shitty?

As for the P4 trailer, I never saw it. The context I was presented to that was, new Persona game. It was enough for me. As was the SMTxFE name enough for me and the previous trailer added weight to my decision to buy it. This trailer did not and I'm pointing out what is wrong with it. And since it's a trailer that is made to present the game it's even more annoying. Or do you, I ask again, have anything the rest of us don't that can explain that bizarre scene?

It is what sells, however.

That is true to an extent, I understand that. Still doesn't make it better in my book.

Pandering indeed.

What is going on in the background? Some kind of Steel Samurai live event? Are all of the party members in show business?

When the announcement was made 2 years ago I honestly didn't expect a straight Project X Zone crossover anyway. My general expectations were more that FE style armies are in present day Tokyo fighting back demons for control of the city or something like that. Basically a more direct confrontation between core elements of the Fire Emblem and SMT series. Here the Fire Emblem elements are incredibly subtle, and I don't see anything resembling SMT except that the art looks like the Devil Survivor games and it is set in Tokyo. It looks a lot less like a crossover, and more like an original Atlus RPG that has FE cameos in it.

The red-headed character looks like he's a Kuroko (or a mook) in this scene. It's (obviously) a stage performance taking place, so it very well could be that all of them are involved in show business which then ties into some greater theme.

That guy is definitely in show business. He is (sorta) wearing he outfit of a traditional stagehand, if it is the same outfit the people next to him are wearing. Doubles as a ninja costume.

Sentai stage show for kids. He's playing the role of the many lacky ninjas that is always beaten by the hero. I imagine it's summer and it's really, really hot.

Hey, it's that one guy from Free.

lol

What?! I'm at 150 hours and multiple playthroughs! You should finish it! it's glorious!
I just have too much games and I keep putting off my other ones and starting new ones.

Once I finish Alpha Sapphire, I'll try to restart SMT...maybe :)

I honestly thought it would be fire emblem characters somehow get transported to the SMT world, or something like that.

But seeing this trailer made me get really hype. Looks awesome.

I mean, Atlus and Intelligent systems (if they're working on it) cant possibly make a bad game and gameplay looks pretty sick!

Spoiler Part: Looks like some sorta Shocker troops getting their asses handed by Ryuki'sone of the Kamen riders.

Pandering Part: Only time it makes it a bit better when they can at least find balance in it so it doesn't lock some other part of video game players.
