Illusory Revelations#FE (SMTxFE) - First Trailer, Winter 2015 [Up: Screenshots]

I'm not sure what I expected... but it certainly wasn't Persona.

But I got Persona... and now I am not sure how I feel.

If this goes grimdark Persona 3, I will be happy. If this goes family picnic in Disney Land Persona 4, I will be sad.

I'm not quite sure we even played the same games

The most mindblowing thing to me about this trailer has been reading this thread and finding out that there's a pretty large percentage of people who look at those little bits in Persona games that go straight into full-on otakubait service and actually identify them with the whole franchise, instead of the reaction that I always thought was the norm, which is "Eugh, this stuff is pretty awful, but I'll tolerate it in small doses if it means getting all the parts of the game that are not that".

I don't even mean that in like a condescending "Oh, you silly people and your 'taste'" sort of way; I just find it genuinely surprising that there are so many people who watched that and came away thinking "Oh, so it's like Persona".

Lol, is this like Nintendo's try to get their own Persona game? Lololol
I'm 100% sure it'll be a great game, and I'm kind of excited, but just... Lol.

People not seeing it are a lost cause. Apparently equivalent:

As much as I love the Nep series, if I was expecting the first and got the second, I wouldn't be happy.
I don't think a single person stated those are one and the same. The only thing they have in common is that they're both anime-style material.

Anime =/= moe whatsoever.

Both of those art styles take their inspirations in style and execution from anime/manga series.

There isn't one set anime "style," there's variety in anime just like in any other art form there isn't a singular style for something. That's like looking at something by Van Gogh and saying it's "painting style" which really makes no sense in any context.

This is why it's stupid to complain about the new game looking like "anime" while claiming Kaneko's art isn't anime style, which is absurd and outright false.

So the American trailer implied these were preexisting Fire Emblem characters... So who is who?

I've already posted these three before. They're actually named in the trailer:

Tiki

Gangrel

Aversa
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v176/NeonZ/FExSMT_04_zpsyxw0on8b.jpg

There are other characters who seem to be preexisting ones too, like a blue haired man with glowing eyes wielding Awakening's Falchion (Chrom? Marth?) and the red bike knight might be Cain, but those aren't confirmed.

hey you got two console jrpgs from Atlus the same year, its a treat if you like that particular style.

Not that they are that similar.

I think this game looks awesome and the darker sides of each series will show through soon enough.

Watching the trailer again, I think it could play more like Fire Emblem than we're giving it credit for. Those animations at the beginning give me serious Awakening battle vibes, just longer and more over the top.

From that picture I can't help but think that Tiki is going to that asshole who charges you macca to heal your party...

I can't really tell but there was a couple scenes with I presume Tiki. I can guess their classes though. I think it was more implying there would be cameos of characters from FE

I hope it meets the same success as Hyrule Warriors did abroad.

They should have called it Persona x Zelda, then. Would have sold billions.

Billions!

Everyone would have traded in their inferior other consoles/pcs/tablets/phones/wallets/stopwatches/smartwatches/toasters/geigercounters for that game.

Just rewatching the last scene reminds of that quote from the interview with Hitoshi Yamagami on this game. That scene is literally what he was talking about

Persona 3? Gets pretty damn dark and grim come the end. Its pretty dark and grim after that which shall not be spoiled happens.

Both games have their own dark elements, taking place in a similar setting.

I don't see what makes a series of serial murders which the corpses end up hung upside down on various objects
or the events that transpired with Nanako in one of the possible ending routes
makes Persona 4 so "Disney Friendly" as you claim.

Persona 3 had it's own light hearted moments as well.
Even if factor what happened to Chidori or the Main character death which leads to the The Answer

Now if we were talking about Nocturne, yes I can see it being rather dark, but Persona 3 and 4 aren't as drastically different as you make it sound.

I'm curious why they went with young Tiki and if it's in some way a spoiler. When Tiki was young that was Marth's time in Shadow Dragon and Mystery of the Emblem.

Super ironic that a vast number of people are calling out this game for being too anime when Fire Emblem IF has your little sister waking you up in a maid outfit.

I'm surprised to see so people so divided. Although honestly this trailer really didn't explain or show much of anything, if we weren't told this was actually SMTxFE I would have thought its just a new random Atlus RPG.

It looks interesting and I want to see more but it was an odd trailer to watch that is for sure.

Nocturne is a different ball game entirely if we're talking about dark.

But I separate P3 from P4 because the permanence of most climactic events occurs around the cast rather than around "people in town", which is much more impactful as you are given time to bond with the characters. "People in town" get offed left and right in P3 whether they be unfortunate kids,
the main character's parents or someone's parent
,
party members
, or otherwise. More to the point even come the resolution of The Answer, P3 never rights some of the wrongs and some characters are left with shit on a stick.

I don't dislike P4 but I'd be lying if I didn't say that they eased up on a lot of the dark themes and tones, and underlying pseudo-narratives, of P3. Don't get me wrong that I think people "dying a lot" is what sets the games apart as dark or not, I am more talking about the direct impact on characters or around our characters which is almost never resolved negatively in P4. P3's ending is much more poignant as well.

Also, P3Protag is obviously superior what with him having four Arcana. What a hacker.

You know, this trailer is really caught me unexpected like P5 trailer did, only instead of making me gaping in awe in making me laughing. Not in mocking way, but in funny way because it's just so absurd to everyone's expectation. I'll still buying the game regardless of my dislike of idol crap.

If you're looking for Berserk inspired game, you're clearly looking at the wrong place:

You can probably dig through the Awakening OT and find a few people unhappy with the direction they took with the characters. Certainly there was a bit of criticism about the 1000 year old demon that looks like an underaged girl character. I'd imagine that the people criticizing this game for being too anime are likely to be unhappy with the characterization and artistic direction Fire Emblem has taken with Awkening and now IF as well.

Yeah, the character design of Fire Emblem the past couple games (including If) leaves a lot to be desired. Illusory Revelations looks to continue this trend.

Well looking through the trailer I spotted these posters. So that is definitely Tiki and I guess she's an idol of the sorts.Given how it says artist in the battle screens, I guess they are all idols of the sort and it's a big performance

Wow, I'm so thankful that this project still exists. That trailer looked amazing. Althought initially I was expecting characters we know from previous games, but none of the people in the trailer seemed familiar? Still, mega excited about this one!

I'm afraid this is going to happen. Too little FE in that trailer to garner much of my interest.

Hype cancelled.

The producer has specifically said that they're keeping the Fire Emblem elements close to the chest for now:
In this PV, many people may find it hard to understand where the essence of “Fire Emblem” comes into play. However, this will be explained more in the future, so please wait for a follow-up to this.
Also:
This is the result of our collaboration work on the “Fire Emblem” series. I think many people will find it quite different than they had originally expected. Originally, it was very challenging for us to get the “Fire Emblem” aspect into the game, but we worked carefully with Nintendo to ensure it’d work well and deliver the feeling you get from the series.
But, “as long as development of this title conforms with what Intelligent Systems originally would have wanted, and ATLUS develops it and triumphs through it, then ATLUS’ work is good.”

Why would you post that and not Dragon's Dogma? The game that actually has Berserk things in it?
Well, Dark Souls pull "Berserk" better than Dragon's Dogma even without having any Berserk things in it.

Tiki from the first FE is looking like a child and is 1000 years old as well. Let's not pretend that never happened in the series. It happened, but the main differentiation is the outfit which I admit is dumb and pure garbage on Nowi's part. Even then if you willing to overlook Nowi's outfit, she is one of the most mature character in the cast.

Centaur thing Aversa is scary.

That has been a staple of the series since the first game, though. Fire Emblem has always been "anime", as much as I hate how people use that word.
