Illusory Revelations#FE (SMTxFE) - First Trailer, Winter 2015 [Up: Screenshots]

I like the messed up Tokyo. I always like messed up Tokyos. That's why I watch Godzilla movies.
Surprised that so many people are upset; I had figured that the people who are currently into these two series are more into modern anime than I am.

Maybe I'm just getting too old or something, but does it seem like everything coming out out of Japan as of late is over-sexualized? Like more perverted than usual? Don't get me wrong it looks gorgeous and all, and I usually lean towards Japanese games over western designed... But man, can we put just a little more clothes on these gals. I can't play this shit around my kids, let alone other adults. Its embarrassing.

The explanation that I've heard is that otakus have more disposable income than most Japanese people since they just mooch off their parents. And otakus are sleazeballs, I guess.

I completely agree with this sentiment in general but based on this trailer I don't think this game fits the trend. The game seems all around tame compared to most of what NISA releases a few outfits had some cleavage but there weren't any intentional up close breast shots for example.

I guess I understand how you, SMT and FE fans, feel, but as a gamer who has only played SMT on the SNES and basically never played a FE game, I went from "not interested" to "where do I sign" with this game.

That's an incredibly uninformed stereotype. Are all geeks bespectacled, pimple laden fat asses that stay in their parent's basement?

The "moe" upswing trend (think anime cutesy) is undeniably a fact of the culture, and while I don't agree with it personally as well, that's just how the taste and demand of the industry has shifted over the years.

I was expecting something different when I originally heard the SMTxFE name.

Needless to say, I am disappointed, but still excited enough to look for more info for this project.

Wasn't the first thing I imagined when I heard "Fire Emblem" but this looks good, definitely looking forward to how it shapes up.

Well, I won't claim to be the most educated on the subject, but hikikomori is a thing. I've read about a lot of reasons for that. Japanese parents supporting the lifestyle because they're too ashamed to do otherwise, students enduring a stressful education only to find that there aren't any jobs waiting for them in the end, poor attitudes towards mental illness, so on.

Although, this is obviously off topic.

I will be looking more forward to seeing actual gameplay.
The trailer was 95% intro cutscene, 5% gameplay.
Do not know why you would get hyped from the game's intro cutscene.

It's all good, fans of Vita idol games and Compile Heart and Ar Tonelico games will also find a lot to love in this trailer.

Is that a
panty?
=/

Off topic sure, although let me first say that this is another case of a hugely misinformed stereotype. Hikikomoris and geek culture otakus are not mutual demographics, even though there is an immensely small minority who fall under both. You wouldn't call every gamer a shut-in dependent, and neither would you call every shut-in dependent a gamer; It's literally the same thing.

I'll admit it: the initial concept of FE x SMT sounded quite boring to me. We really didn't know what type of game it was, but you could assume it would be an SRPG, which SMT already has as a side series (Devil Survivor). There was nothing really inherently interesting to me about Ike fighting Beezelbub or something.

I'm not sure if this alternative is better. It's certainly... different. They went full anime though. You NEVER go full anime. A girl straight up transforms into her panties. I have no idea what the hell is the purpose of that or how it could possibly tie into any sort of story point. I do think the dichotomy between reality and fantasy is interesting, although it's a typical theme in the Persona games. There's such a flurry of gameplay scenes they through out during this trailer, but I can't really put it all together. I will keep my eye on it, kind of like how people keep their eyes on flaming cars they see on the side of the highway.

It looks like a swimsuit to me.

So the girl on the far left in the main character art is Kiria.
And this guy who seems to be the main guy is Yashiro Tsurugi

And along with Tiki, they seem to be the 3 big idols as seen in the posters next to the chart with Kiria topping the chart

The idol theming is incredibly omnipresent in this game

Unless "fits perfectly" is limited to anime visuals and being a JRPG, not it really does not.

One of the most ridiculous things I've read in this thread.

Okay, I'll bite, in what ways does this remind you more of SMT over Persona? Also not just the anime visuals, little cues like the blocked out NPC(white in Persona 5 and multicolored in this game) the Jpop soundtrack, the highschool setting. So far I definitely get Persona over SMT.

Can't say I'm a fan of the aniboobs and girl morphing into underwear etc (I'm not into anime generally), but everything else about the trailer intrigued me and I really can't wait to see how the game plays and is structured.

I'm very optimistic about this one.

I know people keep saying it's SMT and not persona, but it looks less like SMT and more like persona. Hell watch the persona five trailer and it fits perfectly.

People don't really keep saying it's SMT any more because SMT isn't exactly apart of this any more. If anything, it'll just share some themes from SMT. And no this doesn't fit perfectly with the Persona 5 trailer at all.

Could it be possible that the protaganists are reincarnations of Fire Emblem characters and have inherited their abilities and powers which is released through their transformations?

No. Just overly sexualized games tend to get more attention on GAF, so you are exposed to them more.

"reincarnation"?

So there´s like some kind of reality show involving demons and death and reincarnation on this game?

Why are we hating this game again?

Edit: just a song name... its a song chart.... oh well...

I agree 100%

The stuff we've seen in the trailer is absolutely in line with everything Japanese developers have put out since forever. Having girls clothed in almost nothing is not a new trend (however, modern games tend to exploit their girl characters more than in the past, but we can't say based on this trailer that this will be the case here).

SMT and also FE to a degree used to be "darker" than this, but the turn into a more anime-ish direction comes
hardly as a surprise after the tremendous success of Awakening and also the Persona series. I can understand the frustration - and I can't say that I like this idol theme very much either - but it looks like this game has much higher production values than a darker crossover would have ever had. So, if the game turns out to be better for it, then I'm all for it. For the time being I'm just glad that it's not one those crossovers where heroes of both franchises get to meet eachother due to whatever reasons. Those almost never turn out to be very good.

I don't think we'll see Nintendo pushing FE into the old direction again any time soon. Or ever.

What about the aesthetic of the latest and one of the best selling SMT games, SMT IV?

It's the name of the song that is playing in the trailer btw. :D

I think we'll probably get a huge character song album from this. >_>

Some of the other songs -
no.2 - VAMPIRE
no.3 - Gachinko Rider [?], Do Your Best Rider?
no.4 - ?? (KIKIN) ????
no.5 - Brush-Up

I find there is a lot to enjoy in the trailer. But yeah it's really bad at conveying what the game is about. I think it's similiar to Persona 5, while showing more extremes.

As a fan of SMT, Persona and FE games I'm looking forward to this.

Yeah, I don't get this.
It fits more with Persona 4 Dance All Night trailer to me.

Well, that's probably just because DAN is intentionally a music/dance game with Persona characters, but so far this game shares more in common with idol games in general atm.

I'm just super excited that it's got an exciting looking battle system so far, Atlus is developing it, there's proof of concept of this project now after two years, and I like that it's going for more of it's own thing with regards to world. Sure I'm disappointed in the lack of SMT and clothes, but overall it looks like it could be something really cool and I'm super excited for this.
