So, I've just beaten
BSB
, and I realised that I missed an NPC encounter earlier in the game (
Eileen
). Am I fucked? Was she easy to miss? Because I feel a bit stupid for not seeing her.

Edit: I've just noticed that 70% of players have beaten the first boss now. That's pretty impressive to me.

Not sure what unlocks it, but I can buy Ritual Blood 1 and 2 from Echoes and Insight shops, along with some other Chalice materials like low level Tomb Mold and a few others. I'm guessing more/higher level stuff will continue to unlock eventually...

Wow that's good to know! Thanks Drizzay! Maybe more materials unlock in the store when you get more chalices. I will have to keep checking the store whenever I am short on Chalice ritual materials.

20-25 hours in, and I still cannot get the timing to riposte the big enemies with the brick slabs. They should be fairly easy too, as they are quite common in the game. :(

Is easy to pull trigger too early. Wait until they are coming forward with swing then hit L2. Then hit and hold R1 ONCE. Don't mash.

Two later Chalice Dungeon questions:

1.) Recommended level for
Defiled Lv2 boss Watchdog
? Got him down to ~10% but he can also OHK me pretty easily, I'm Lv125 w/ 40 Vit.

2.) What's the difference with the
"Uncanny" variations of weapons
? Thanks to a friendly Gaffer's post, I snagged the
Uncanny Burial Blade
but it's not clear what the advantage might be, besides different shapes of blood gems.

I believe that Uncanny and lost versions of weapons are exactly the same except that they have different shapes of blood gem slots. That's what I read. I just got a lost weapon last night.

lol at O
ne
R
eborn
.
I was too mesmerised by how ridiculous it looks that I got trampled by its little side feet XD.

In terms of regular enemies (non-bosses and mini-bosses), is anything harder than the sack dudes?? I haven't seen a few places yet, but these guys are super unpredictable.

yeah. Uncanny will switch the third gem slot from triangle to waning and vice versa. Lost gives one of each slot.

I'm around level 50, do you guys think I'm underlevelled for Amygdala? It seems very killable but I just can't seem to make it during his third stage. I've been told it's an easy one as well but it's giving me trouble. And for the first time in the game it's difficult to find people to summon.

The only other place I have left to go to is the Rom fight but he seems optional and a little annoying.

When he uses that move where
He plans the sword in the ground
, destroy his sword ASAP. It can be done with a couple of strikes and you should do it straight away. Was a life saver in that fight.

Thanks, I've only got that far in the fight once. I think I'm just being too impatient and charging in too much. Not getting my hits in and backing off like I should.

they hit like trucks but they are very easy to deal with once you're used to them. I farmed them for twin shards early on. The trick is to make your first hit count - either a strong R2 charge or visceral attack. Then hit them hard again as they cast their 'red mode' powerup move. If you do it right then you won't have to deal with their sped-up moveset at all.

and trust me, later on there's something much much worse.

I'd say level 50 is a bit low...too easy for a OHK. Also, Rom is not optional.

He should leave you enough time to do a bit a damage when he's glowing red, then back off. I usually just jump back and charge R2 and wait for them to run into me as I release the attack. Fwoosh.

Completed C
ainhurst Castle
and it's boss last night. That was a tough one.. My and a summon were able to finish it off. Few close calls there for both of us. But we got it at last moment.

Alright, today I'm going to kill M
artyr
L
ogarius
. Today's the day.

Good luck, I fought that bastage for hours last night, with summons, to no avail. Closest I came was I died right before he did and my summoned help finished him off, but too late I had already died so it didn't count.

I just this morning, with some help, managed to down him, I was lvl 54. I burned through approximately 20 insight summoning people, and countless blood echoes farming to get more health vials.

All told approximately 3-4 hours coop fighting him last night, another 1.5 this morning before I finally got him.

First boss I felt stuck on in the game. Doesn't help when you go in with 1-2 summons, and they both die within his first attack or two :(

Am I crazy or do the same enemy types have higher HP and DPS when they're found in different areas?

Example being the ravens found in CY compared to OY. The Old Yarnham ones have >100 HP, feels like, whereas the Central Yarnham ones have <80, IIRC.

Kind of weird to fuck with player expectations like that.

I think you're right.

This is like some TES Oblivion shit, scaling with your level and all that

Yep. I don't like it. They should at least be visually differentiated.

So lame. Buut I guess this will make speedruns a bit more interesting, at least.

Not really, most of the actual speedrunners separated themselves by whether or not they duped. The issue is going to remain in the rarity of chunks and what a pain in the ass it is to upgrade. Possibly the worst of any Souls game so far.

I'm the type that doesn't care what someone does as long as it's not ruining the experience for others. I don't believe you duping items to raise your level harms other players, so I don't see a problem with it. I too have limited time to game, however I'm pushing through the game anyway. Once I beat it legit I'll probably uninstall the game and its patches, then play it vanilla so I can dupe on a bunch of characters to complete builds I'd otherwise not have time to do myself.
Nothing to apologize over...but if From can detect that you've done it. I recall From banning people from playing online on the consoles for one of their titles (Demon's Souls / Dark Souls...) can't remember which.
Yea, I have no interest in PVP.
I will play coop though if the opportunity ever arrives.

If you do, tell me how. First boss I've gotten stuck on.

He was my first wall as well. I finally managed to solo kill him as follows:

During the first phase
, run in whenever he charges the big ball. Get a couple of strikes in, then get out, as he counters with an exploding skull right in front of him. Stay locked on, evade the homing skulls as best as you can and try to stay on him, as your strikes will interrupt him.

During phase two you should
switch over to a long-range strategy. Try baiting his flying attack, as he has slow recovery on it and get some strikes in. If he summons the swords, head over to the summoning spot and whack his staff to make the swords stop.
Now comes the hard part. When he 2-hands his weapon and moves in for the kill, look for the wind up animation of his swing. shoot him right before he hits you for an easy riposte. Then create distance and bait the flying attack again.

I killed him on level 51, with the threaded cane+6, in short-range mode, as the cane attacks are really fast and allow quick response on dodging.

good luck!

Wow this
defiled dungeon chalice is stupid your health bar is cut in half
guess i can kiss that platinum goodbye even though i have all the other trophies lol

I got burned thinking I could charge into a grouping of 3 ravens in OY, thinking I could simultaneously 1HK them all with one R2 attack from my whippin' cane.

I understand that they probably need to reuse enemy types, but doing obvious things like scaling them to be bigger or having some unique visual change would have been nice.

Oh nooooooo. Haha can't wait.

They're pretty easy once you get the hang of them. Get the health down a bit, then charge attack them from behind when they get angry so you can visceral attack them.

What were the Chalices with good treasure or drops or whatever that people were talking about earlier in the thread? I forgot to save the name/information for creating that dungeon and just now unlocked the ability to do the ritual.

thanks, much appreciated. damn, level 51? me and other gaffer at 73 & 70+ got destroyed last night. I've been exploring and coming back and first fought him at mid 60's. I can see his patterns but his attacks hit sooooo damn hard and i've gotten stun-locked if i don't get away in time.

edit: i'm wondering if my weapons are under leveled. just got them to +6. a couple of vids had guys using +9 spears and axes at level 70.
