Run like hell, run past the big spider, run past the guy on the bridge, go down the stairs in the next room and turn right. you'll see a small passage way to an elevator, outside the elevator is another lantern. You can now use that lantern to skip all the running, and if you desire you can go back and kill the guy on the bridge.

Didn't kill a single small spider and got rom on my first try.
Just used some paper on my Ludwig's.

Mensis is destroying me. Specifically Lower Margo. The approach to the entrance of the building is tough but I can do it (now that I've had a LOT of practice). Only gotten to the giant spider once or twice. How the fuck does the frenzy work on the way up here? I end up taking a bunch of damage on the way up just from that. And no idea what to do with this spider. Someone help me. I want to cry.

Out of curiosity, what level and gear are you wearing?
The first set had decent poison resistance and I think my endurance was like 18-20, which helped too. I also feel like I was constantly moving, always sidestepping because he turned so much and then attacked while he was busy attacking air. Early on I was just trying to sidestep when he went for an attack, but I kept getting nabbed by his OHK attack. Was a pain in the ass.

welp, I'll be unable to play the game for something like 3 months so after that time I hope to see more activity online, especially for pvp because it's really fun and for chalice dungeons which are much better in co-op.
the dungeons required for the platinum also seem pretty hard so co-op could help for that.

tried doing that, but the room we are in is way to small and the spiders can take away 1/3 of my health each hit.

Should be fixed. Also the bug description says it was only ever if you were NOT the host, but rather if youw ere the helper that you would encounter the problem. So if you want help on the boss, you were fine before and you're still fine. If you want to help others, you're ok as long as you've applied the patch (or already gotten the Lunarium Key from the next area)

There is a staircase, run all the way up and you find a lantern. But there is a "Quest" in this area that's only doable now and not later (when you come back Story wise).

you should see some spiral stairs, go right to the top and you'll find a lantern. You can warp out and come back as you please.

There's an open door to her clinic from the yard that is accessed from the Forbidden Woods.

Basically you just climb the stairs. Total of 3 sets of stairs from the area you start in and you get to a lantern. You'll just have to avoid one of those guys who kidnapped you there in the first place.
