Nintendo is controlling supply and demand well, just like Activision with rare Skylanders figures. They're keeping their core market engaged and on the hunt. Flood the market and theres a lot less incentive to collect day one and eventually at all. Its different from say Wii shortages because you need to manage the same customers over a long time instead of rely on new customers.

Its not like the factories couldn't pump out as many as they need. They're just doing smart business.

For comparison, here in Australia all the wave 5/6 ones went up yesterday and lasted ~24 hours. Dr Mario is the only one left now.

And EB even said they only put a limited amount up until Tuesday (presumably because employees won't be able to keep track of orders due to being away for Easter) so there's gonna be even more of them.

I don't know wtf is going on with NoA.

I understand this and know where they are coming from, but as someone collecting this it still sucks, haha.

I literally went to bed at 1 and got up at 4 based on old info it would go live around 5 or 6. Screw TRU, they did this to me with Lucario too! If anyone secures an extra Greninja, I'll trade a Ness for it or just buy it off you.

Are there amiibo shortages in Japan and the EU as well?

In Europe, yeah.

However, it's rather a knock-on effect due to the exclusives the US is having. Waves 1 & 2 weren't that in shortage in Europe, but as soon as America got exclusives, we started having issues as well. Many UK and European online retailers are also getting inundated with orders from the US.

They need to cease this exclusivity crap and make sure they have enough stock. It's getting ridiculous.

Abso-fucking-lutely. Exclusives should have a higher availability at least for a bit longer. This whole having to wake up at 2am randomly just to order a figure is ridiculous.

Agreed. I dont have a TRU or Target near me so now I'm SOL. Nintendo has went too far and eventually the market will reflect that as more people bow out.

Amiibo will inevitably climb up the % proportion of Nintendo's annual profits.

Double downing strategy on core fans works.
I'd think its already a large part of their profits but not their revenue yet. Nintendo/Amiibo still only has a tiny sliver of the "toys to life" market thats dominated by Skylanders and Disney Infinity.

They need to transition Amiibo from something really only Nintendo fans collect to something parents need to collect for their children. The rumoured upcoming Amiibo game is how they'll aim to do that.

People are complaining but...sadly 30 minutes nowadays is a large window when preorders are selling out in minutes. Lucina was gone in a few minutes every store so far except for gamestop but thats because their computers were fucked. Also im not sure if tru restricted how many people could preorder since I only got one.

30 mins...in the middle of the damn night for 90% of americans. Come on.

Am going to try and get Marth, Lucina, Robin and Gandolf. Then I'm out. Don't have the time nor patience for this anymore. Its been very nerve racking with Nintendo. The Majora Mask CE and DS along with these amiibos ... its been an insane ride.

All I ever hear about Amiibos these days is how sold-out they are. Has Nintendo just messed up and underestimated the popularity of their product or are they purposefully making them in small batches or something?

They're doing it on purpose. They know full well if they make them widely available, you'd see them languishing on store shelves like you do Mario, Kirby, Samus, and the other main characters that are in abundant supply.

By keeping numbers super limited it drives consumers into a frenzy, and you have them selling out in the blink of an eye, because there's money to be made by reselling them.

The problem is they are going too far. If Pre-orders sold out in an hour or two they accomplish the same thing without frustrating their most loyal customers. As it stands now more and more loyal Nintendo fans are going to walk away. If Ni tendo produced enough so Pre orders sold out in a couple hours then most would have a shot at them, they would profit more, and they would still be creating the hype.

It's pretty clever what Nintendo is doing. If they were supplying enough people would be bored with this amiibo thing before the end of the month. Now they can milk it for years, and please be excited that there's no games but yet another wave of amiibos.

Basically yeah. And worse, they did the same with the GC Controller Adapter; limited quantity to squeeze the large demand there was for it.

Clever but shady...

Yeah, pretty much. It sucks for us but they found a new source of income that most likely would have fizzled out long ago if not for the artificial supply constraints.

Don't know if it's worth pissing off fans this much in the long term, though.

I can't do this anymore, they sell out before I can even conceive of their existence or get to them.
I wake up early, check computer constantly, spam F-5.

JUST THE HECK NINTENDO!?

I'm almost had it and I'm about to sell all my Amiibo and call it a day at his point. I just can't anymore

What the hell is going on with amiibos in the US?

The same as in Europe. Only there people preorder at multiple stores to make sure they have at least one. Making it pretty hard to get Amiibo's for normal prices in Europe also.

The whole supply situation and the craziness of it all is why I am going to keep avoiding Amiibo. It's a waste of time for everybody involved.

At this point you would think Nintendo would start producing more Amiibos.

It seems like a lost opportunity to make more money.

I doubt that.

Hardcore fans chasing limited Amiibos for months is one thing. Chasing them for years while dealing with increasingly short window times to obtain them is just insane.

Welcome to the world of figure collecting and scalpers. The DLC is an afterthought to most buying these.
Is the Amiibo Cards they talked about in the last Nintendo Direct a way to get the "DLC" out to those who actually want that? Or will the collectors go nuts for those too? :/

I'm sure it will be worst then Pokemon cards when they first came out.

This things just futher turns me off Amiibos and even games that support it, as little and cosmetic as are its content I like all the shit a game offers on the box I bought the game at.

I got my son villager, marth and trainer from the first batch, admittedly was swept up by the look I found them let's buy them hype.

But after the first batch we have not bothered to buy any due to the hassle of getting the ones he would like.

At first the demand Would have been good for business but personally I think they have messed up now and pushing customers away.

I'm officially done with Amiibos. They went on preorder yesterday at like 2, right? I got to the store at 5, and literally every single amiibo in the next wave was sold out. They had nothing. This goes beyond artificial scarcity at this point. There isn't even enough for it to be considered that, and I'm not paying 30 bucks on ebay for Pac-man, so I'm out. For now, I'll pick more up in 2 years when the market for them officially collapses in on itself.

Man, I want to get some of these when i get a wii U but all this scarcity makes me even wonder if its worth it...

I can't be bothered with pre-ordering stuff anymore, I'm always late to the punch :c

I think it's better to just stay out all together if you think like that, the prices might go up even more later on. I'll get Toad and maybe some more just for the gameplay features but I'm not touching the collecting hobby. I have enough issues with the "free" PS+ games, can't ever stop subscribing as it is right now even though I never play the games, the missed games will be forever missed, once you're in you can't get out. No more. :/

On one hand, you might be right, but on the other, this seems like a video game version of beanie babies. I can't see it maintaining value forever.

Yep. Summer release schedule is DLC and Amiibos + Splatoon.

I'm about done. 30 min at 3 AM...Time to walk away and I have every released US Amiibo.

Yup. Same here. Nintendo isn't making enough, and scalpers are ruining this for everyone. I'm about done. No point in collecting if my collection will have holes in it. At this point, i'll finish the set if nintendo keeps making them in ample supply over time. If not, then I guess I'm done. Hopefully more people of like-mind will do the same, which will make it less profitable for scalpers to the point where scalpers don't bother. Don't think that'll happen though.

This is why I just stopped caring. If I can't walk into a store at my leisure and buy an Amiibo anymore, I'm not fucking with it. I'm tired of F5ing webpages and fighting for orders over these things.
