Yea, it's pretty rough

I have hit a wall. A big hard wall that I cannot through.
I'm getting destroyed in N
ightmare of Mensis
.Everything is killing me. I could grind levels but I don't want to over level i case I want to summon. I'm level 60, is that about right for this area? I might be here too soon.

Your first action meeting an enemy with ludwig's is L2 or forward R2 in greatsword mode, then two swings. If it still lives > repeat. L2 just fucks up most of the enemies so that they stagger and gives you time to follow up. Ludwig's not really good in hectic situations. Quick enemies or later weak enemies i just use longsword + shotty for parry.

R2 thrust (greatsword) only for sneak attack with follow parry. R2 thrust of longsword is better and faster, so it's ok for normal enemies in a fight. The greatsword thrust has low reach compared to other thrust moves in souls games and BB.

Thanks for this. Once I adopted this tactic, things were a whole lot better. But I've done a few comparisons now, and I think I still prefer the Axe overall. It's quicker to deal damage and less finicky. I think I've got the timings and distances down so well now as well, that I feel quite dominant with it. I think I'll switch to and from the Ludwig depending on the situation.

On a side note, just killed the Witch! On a side note, this Hemwick place is amazing for getting souls! I think I might farm for a bit just so I can stock up on items and level up some more.

This game is truly among the best games I ever played, and i'm only 20 or so hours in.

This game just offers the perfect blend of gameplay, challenge, variety, art, discovery and satisfying encounters.
I have never finished Dark Souls despite putting 40-50 hours into it. It just didn't grab me enough to move past some of the later difficult encounters. Bloodborne though, i'm fucking loving every minute I put into it. I don't want it to end and i'm already looking forward to NG+.

Miyazaki, you glorious, glorious man. I explored the Forbidden Forest for hours last night, took it slow, turned over every single rock and meticulously slaughtered everything there. Just me, my lantern and my +6, gemmed up Ludwig's Greatsword that fucking devastates in greatsword mode. Can't remember a night of sheer gaming bliss this good since I played Half Life 2 for the first time in 2004.

What's the benefit of playing NG+ ? Would you recommend continuing NG+ to see everything you have missed in the first playthrough or would you start a new character ?

With a new character i can out-level some of the difficult areas. I don't know if thats possible in NG+.

Is it the first area with the frenzy that is troubling you? I just ran to the first lamp, then ran around to the right and unlocked the shortcut, after that was easy.

Hug the belly and you won't really get hit

I've tried this on
Ebritas
, and it's not working too well. Her swipes get me every time. I've tried getting into her V-shape spot on her back and I can get her down to about 25%, but then her lasers cut me down in seconds.

I've tried Bolt paper against her, but I heard someone mention that Fire paper is more effective? Also, what kind of runes are best for her? I have a rune that adds to Bolt damage, is that effective? Is the rune that gives arcane damage effective against her?

I'm wearing the Choir set with high arcane def, and my Ludwig's is +7. I've watched a bunch of youtube videos and they all make it look so easy. I don't know how they are getting her health down so fast.

Ugh. I hate this boss.

this worked for me as well.

I found the lamp, I have been round the right, but the shortcut is not activated for me.

you have to activate from inside the big hall inside the keep, you can just run there from the lamp.

continue ng+ to see everything you missed. The bosses have slight changes to their attack/attack pattern and they are scaled higher so its a nice new challenge without being too much. Starting a new character would just be literally doing the same thing again.

So I got my Ludwig Sword up to the same level as my Hunters Axe, and I'm just not feeling it as much. I find it's charged R2 attack not only takes longer to charge, but because it's a thrust, it also very easily misses if the enemy moves just a tiny bit to the side. Any tips on using the sword? I'm thinking of just cutting my losses and focusing on upgrading the Axe more now. But my fear is that later in the game enemies will be much faster and require the one handed speed of Ludwig. I'm a mostly 2 handed player though, with most of my focus on strength.
I used this as soon as I got it and finished the game with it. It's slower than other weapons but hits like a truck. In groups it's key to try to hit multiple enemies at once as this weapon staggers easily. Since the attacks use up a lotof stamina I make sure I have enough for to dodge if needed. I never drain my stamina with attacks unless I know I won't need it. I often use the charged R2 attack when an enemy is coming at me (just have to get used to thee timing) and then follow up with another R2 which does an overhead slam and by then most of the enemy's health is gone if its not already dead.

Nope, I did that after killing that boss. You just have to find the right one. How high is your insight?

No you're fine. You can still do it from the same transport as if before you killed R. If not, you can get to the LR later and take the ladder down, where you can enter the N Frontier.

Hunter Axe vs Saw Cleaver!

Im playing with Saw Cleaver but should I just buy the Axe and upgrade it?

Btw: Im upgrading both Saw Cleaver as GreatSword. Will I be able to bring them both to +10?

you arent supposed to go there that way. You will get there nturally via the storyline later on.

My Eileen has now disappeared, I have talked to her in her initial location but I go to the tomb of Oedon and no fight is taking place. I just killed VA. Have I fucked up and missed this quest? I really really wanted her gear.

The worse thing about this game by far is the side quests so easily missable.

The Axe charge attack is pretty useful, even if you don't plan on using it, might need it to cheese some encounters. Axe as a starting weapon is basically this game's easy mode.

any special tips on getting co-op going with a specific person? i've tried all of the following and failed

  • within 10 levels of each other (62 and 67)
  • used a long, random password
  • in the same location of the game
  • at the same spot story-wise/ same bosses beaten and unbeaten
  • ran the small resonant bell first, then the beckoning
  • used worldwide instead of local

annnnnd...we still cannot connect

This happened sometimes with me and friends in the chalice dungeons. What seemed to kick it into life was us both leaving messages where we both were.

Did you walk to the tomb of odeon?

Cathedral Ward
I have cleared the area as far as I can tell, you have a door on the right and a door straight ahead leaving the lamp, on the door straight ahead you have some stairs to the left and a closed gate. Then on the door of the right you go thru the little cemetery where there is that vortex that almost kills you, you have a path to the left that leads to a bonfire with a dog and a few hunters and opening the sarcophagus that takes you to the old city with the gatlin gun, on the other path to the right you have the two big white giants and a few crows and you can find a secret after going past the giant with the mace, and to the right stairs there is the gate that you need the seal from the store, is there anyway to get around that gate to the other side without buying the store item, because I cannot find any other paths except going to the old city and deal with the gatlin gun dude.

I spent them in the shop haha

I want to spend some of mine, but the best looking gear generally has the worst stats :( I really like the Grey Hunter gear, the one you have the option to buy with Insight after killing the hunter behind the Cathedral, but the stats on it are poor.

Still trying to defeat BSB. It'll take forever for me to finish this game :p It's ok though. My next purchase is still long way to go (MGSV at September)

SoY down. Pretty intense.

Two tries, drained a whole stock of 20 vials in my winning run.

I used a classic RPG tactic to start.
Kill the fucking mage first.
After that I positioned my self around the big
tombstone to isolate the two swordsmen, and picked off the non fire sword guy next.
When it was
one on one with the last guy I was kicking his ass until he started summoning giant ass snakes.
Thankfully mashing dodge works like a charm here. Still almost died since I blew through my vials in earlier phases of the fight.

Giving you lost blood echoes to an enemy can have some weird effects. I died to Mr.
Gatling Gun
in
Old Yharnam
and when going back I encountered an enemy which had my blood echoes way before I died. I guess it saved me a long trip...

There are 2 ways to advance in Cathedral Ward.

1. Go left from the Lamp and head towards the giant axe guy. Past him (to the right) is where you use the cathedral key
2. Use the elevator, cross the bridge, but instead of going inside the tower run around the outside. You will be able to drop down. This path leads to the gate you need to open to most quickly get the area's boss. There is also a lot of good stuff to find along this route.

did you checked with bloodborne's wiki?

God damn it. The first time I fought E
brietas
(D
aughter
of the C
osmos
), I got her down to less than a quarter of her health left and thought that it didn't seem that bad. Now, I can barely take off a quarter from the start of the fight.
The stupid charge attack is nigh undodgeable if I'm too close, but I need to be close to bait her into doing an attack that'll leave her vulnerable. Funnily enough, I take less damage if I don't try dodging it and just take it head-on, but that'll leave me with a sliver of health that will cost me 2 vials each time if I get lucky enough to survive
.

I really hate bosses you can't parry in this game since it feels like a much more important mechanic this time around.

I think whenever I finish my first game then I'm going to wait to do an NG+ until after we get the load time patch. These load waits are terrible. I'll enjoy my NG+ more with hopefully much shorter load times.

I'm at the final boss but I'm just taking my time doing Chalice dungeons.

Some tips if you want a much easier time of it. Spoilers obviously.

First equip and buy some Blood Molotov's or whatever they're called. Molotov cocktails filled with blood instead of alcohol. You'll need around 3-5 depending on your level and how well you pull this strategy off.

Then when you enter the boss fight, quickly light your weapon on fire with a fire paper (this will add fire damage to your weapon, and has to be done in the menu). After that, once he's gotten fairly close to you, lob a Blood Cocktail somewhere in the middle of the room, and as he walks over to it (his rear should be visible to you), hit him with an R2 charge attack, followed by a visceral attack when he's stunned. If you're using the Axe, double handed R2 won't leave him stunned for a visceral attack, so you need to use the one handed R2 charge instead. After he's been visceral attacked, he'll get up and continue walking towards the Blood Molotov on the floor you threw earlier. I believe he swipes at it twice before giving his attention back to you. So when he starts walking over to it a second time, just repeat the above. One Blood Molotov throw will net you two R2 charge attacks and two Visceral attacks if you time it well.

Rinse repeat this strategy, dashing away and keeping a safe distance from him to heal when you need to, and it should be fairly easy.

There;s an elevator? wtf.. lol

It is, now what?
At 15 insight you
can see the lesser Amygdala's clinging to the sides of buildings. Go to the grand cathedral, go out the door and take the left path past the two hunters and down the hill past the executioner looking guy. You'll find what you're looking for...for better or worse. :)

Haha that was my exact strategy and kill order, just beat them last night. Some of those attacks man, I was screaming WTF in disbelief over party chat lol
