Man
Ebrietas
is so cheap... on NG+ and even though I beat her first try both times she is such a bad design in terms of mechanics.

How so? Are you talking about that
magic laser beam
that can get you when you're not expecting it? I died the first couple times when I got her
health to about 25%
in no time not knowing how to dodge it, the third time was easy when I went in expecting it.

holy balls i'm so lost .. i went straight from
Father G
to central y to cathedral to old y in about 20 minutes... found some stuff on the way but no bosses or anything ... should i keep going after the
gatling gun dude
or do I need to explore back around central y and cathedral first? I feel like theres nothing there for now.

Keep exploring OY.

Yes I understand that. Umm I'll try to be more clear. Say I have 1000 echoes and I die. On my way back to retrieve them I collect 800 and I die again. The 1000 are gone and I understand that, but where the hell are the 800 I just got? Also, what determines if an enemy has your echoes and if they're just laying on the ground.

There is a new mechanic where a patrolling mob can pick up your bloodstain. They will have glowing purple eyes if they have it. You have to kill that enemy to retrieve them. It is random, you do not know who will pick it up other than the glowing eyes

What?
Of course there is.
Keep going!

Woo! Beat the Shadows of Yarnham on my first try. Was quite easy tbh. Love it when there are grave stones and other things in the arena. Perfect cover for when you need to prep a charge attack, or use a quick Blood Vial.

Just cleared the
Forbidden Forest
and now I'm thankful to see that the game
throws you into an even more unpleasant part of the the forest right after... :(

This area is incredibly dense, though.

Also, the fight against
The Shadows Of Yarnham
was really amazing.

Curved blade/club, with chains on the back. Just beat him. Basically stayed in front and whipped the whole time. I'd just back up and bait attacks. When I got close to the arena wall, I'd unlock and turn him around, then repeat. Last 5% of his life bar, I just kept using Bone Marrow Ash and shooting him.

Yup, it's not really a hard fight just have to make sure no mistakes are made during his second phase. I'll try to save his back tumour for his enrage since the first half of the bar is just baiting and hitting and the full spins with the chains seem to have a longer counter attack window. Barring that, I'll just steal your tactic ;)

Have you levelled up quite a lot? That can make a big difference. You're about where I am, but I just finished the witches. You may get to the forbidden woods before me so I'll enjoy reading your pain (in a good way) :)

Is there anything around the other side of the cathedral? Two hunters were down there, and a bag man hiding along a small path but I havent explored oast there.

Klaw-kun! I just went to the left and think I found the Forbidden Woods so should I go to the right of the Cathedral instead?

What is the best build for using Ludwig's Holy Blade?

Should I split Str/Skill 25/25 or go 50 on just one? It is my first time using this weapon and it's kind of confusing. What are the disadvantages of using it as a Great sword? As it seems to have the same speed as its lightsword form.

Second phase, just stay in front of him the whole time. He has some bigger attacks that take time for him to recover, I could get an R2 whip in that time and back away safely.

Fuuuck, some of the chalice bosses on higher depths are hard. Hitting a brick wall with P
Phtumerian Elder
at the moment, can't dodge his extended sword at all.

It's a bit slower than the longsword form, takes a bit more stamina, but the advantage is damage per hit, stopping power and reach. The reach benefit is huge espcially against common enemies. The R2 charge attack has a massive amount of range and damage combined.

WOW.

And here I was thinking that after the Defiled dungeons, it couldn't get any worse!

Well, enter the Cunterian Descendent. The shittiest piece of boss ever. His first mode is doable with like 10 potions, but his second? YEeeeeahhhh. No.

People SAY this game is easy, but personally I have died countless of times. 100+ times at least, and I have lost count to be honest. May be double or triple of that. But none of that has bothered me, because I have learned the very core of souls (from playing DaS & DaS2): it's about skill. You died, thus there was something you have done wrong. After playing literally HUNDREDS of hours of souls-like games, I don't feel the frustration, anger or the feeling of being stuck anymore. So, while this game might have "felt easy" (because I haven't felt negative feelings), it hasn't been easy. I have died countless of times.

I don't want a boss that I have to bash my head against for 40 hours to enjoy this game. I want a game in which I can just forget myself, a game which respects skill and ability to learn & adapt. I think BB is a game like that.

That (Shadow) was supposed to be the next game on my backlog to tackle, and thinking about it now I'm never going to be able to do it. I remember Demon's Souls doing the same thing and ruining a whole section of action/adventure games I was previously interested in. I know people will say the games are really different, but once you've had real steak that Outback roadkill just doesn't cut it.

You know, even if I didn't find Bloodborne's enemy design, core gameplay, and overall art direction to be truly next level, just the fact that it doesn't employ most of the shitty hallmarks of modern AAA game design would be enough for it to sully a shit ton of games in my eyes.

I know you only need to be in it briefly I guess it just makes me grumpy because it wasn't fun in Valley of Defilement, wasn't fun in Blighttown, wasn't fun in Earthen Peak, still isn't fun now. It's just like something for them to check off the list and no one has realized it fucking sucks to roll around healing be through poison and never having stamina. Not even especially hard, just irritating.

Don't get me wrong everywher else I have love dearly, I'm just currently frustrated and needing to vent.

Yeah I understand completely, its just that these are the levels that make the game special, kinda different...and they always reward those who struggle through the area, i.e. great sword of
moolight,
Iato/shadow gear and grainwood ring/fog ring from
shiva quest
/before nerfed the eagle shield, etc etc.

Goddamnit
Father
is fucking my shit up.

Fucking
beast mode
and that stupid fucking
axe
.

On my first playthrough, where I only got to
Old Yharnam
, I beat him in three or four tries and so far I'm on seven or eight.

As far as Chalice Dungeons go, is it a good plan to clear the normal levels then just replace them with their root counterparts after you've found all the secrets, so you have completely unique versions? Do root dungeons only generate randomly once, btw?

Lol, I had the opposite experience.
BSB
was a pushover, but
VA
gave me fits.

I find it very interesting to see how so many people can have vastly different experiences.
It's great.
(boss around the previously mentioned boss)
Vicar
was pretty tough for me, but (late game boss)
Longarius
was easy even without ripsote chaining.

(late game boss)
Ebrietas
was giving me a lot of trouble. Even ran into problems trying to kill it in co-op. Then for the first time in a Souls-like game I was immediately successful after changing tactics. (tactics used to kill boss)
Instead of tentacle humping trying to stay up against the boss I stayed at mid-range. From mid you fish for head strikes and punish accordingly. Much safer than getting hit by random stuff while swinging the camera around.

okay. yeah, you definitely need to go to the password door. start from the grand cathedral lamp post, go all the way down the long stairs into the round court with two axe giants. go to the right entrance, then immediately turn left. hope that helps.
Even that was difficult for me because with the geometry I didn't notice those stairs going down to that door. Hallelujah!
Thank you!

Watchdog of the old Lords in the Defiled Chalice is kicking my ass like no other boss in the main game

level 105 and cant make a dent in him. he has waaay to much HP and having only half the HP, he's almost always 1 shotting me.

any tips ?

if you dodge toward his body as he's attacking in the first phase, you can pretty easily get behind/beside him and work on his legs. You can stagger him once on each leg and get him down to half health pretty quickly.

After half health he gains a few moves and is more erratic in his move selection. Here's the key: be patient and just keep your distance while circling him. Wait until he does the lava vomit, rush in and whack his hind legs, then retreat when he stops. Rinse, repeat.

You may be able to use the lava vomit tactic the whole fight, I just didn't try it.

I have no idea how but I luckily beat him...the real reward for that level of dungeon is the armour you get after beating
The Old Lords[/SPOILER] boss though.

HEre s my video of beating him at level 60? Just try to dodge and stay to the side, watch out for AOE. I am admitedly not doign well at level 40 with my blades of mercy character though.

Ok so from V
A's Cathedral, instead of going through the cave and into the woods on the left, I went right and had to fight two Hunters at once: a Rifle Spear user and Bolt Mace user. Shit was intense, but I made it through. Now I'm overlooking a huge cliff with a building down at the bottom. Where am I headed and is it the right way?

Anyone read this thread on reddit yet?

http://www.reddit.com/r/bloodborne/comments/31bogg/how_to_active_bloodborne_easy_mode/

Basically the OP says running the game for more that 12 hours (including leaving it on suspend/resume mode) will reduce boss encounter movesets due to a memory leak. I really hope this isn't the case. It would make my last few kills feel less of an accomplishment if true. Anyone have any experience with this?

That would explain why i encountered totally different attack patterns on some bosses like M
ergo's
W
itch
N

, D
arkbeast
P

Str/skill split is the best for ludwigs. The other option is smacking a bolt/fire gem on it and leveling your arcane only.

Pthumerian Descendent in Ihyll? Stab him through columns using a charged R2.

Inside the big building theres a ghost thingy that one shotted me as soon as I walked in... No idea what it is

How does the beckoning bell work? I've rang it and nobody comes, wasting insight. Also does it not work on bosses cos there's an x when I'm near one.
