I'm not around to help right now, but have you tried
maximizing your Arcane Defense? You can use the robes you find in Byrgenwerth and the arcance defense rune to get high enough Arcane defense that his magic attacks won't hurt you too much. I also recommend killing the spiders first, and then getting a few hits in on him. I found the Tonitrus works *really* well on the babies.
Loving this as my first Souls like game. In the time it took me to get past the first area, I would have beaten most other AAA titles these days. Have downed the first four bosses and am in the Forbidden Woods area. This level has me tense and has taught me that I need to approach fights patiently even more so then previous areas. I've unlocked the three or so shortcuts I've found so far but I have one question for those that have finished the game:
From reading around, I found that the Forbidden Woods area links back to Iosefka's clinic. All I want to know is whether this shortcut is naturally found at the end of the Forbidden Woods level or if you have to find it by exploring the woods yourself? Don't tell me where it is!!
Great game so far and I'm considering picking up DS2 now because I'm going to need to feed this newfound addiction somehow.
Yeah.Talk to her a few times and she'll go to cathedral ward. You might be better off not bringing her there since she can make you lose out on getting an umbilical cord.
After so many hours with this game I've two complains:
1- Bosses start being amazing and then they go from fine to horrible, at least some secret bosses are great but the mindblowing feeling from the first 4 to 5 bosses never came back (I still have to fight against:
One Reborn, Micolash, Gehrman, Moon, Mergo
)
2- I love the shortcuts and how the game connect itself but I find no point at all at some being so far from the boss or filled with enemies that give no reward at all, if I lose too many times against a boss and I have to farm to get items why can't I use those enemies you put between the shortcut and the boss to farm them? Maybe I'm pissed because I've been fighting against
Ebrietas
for far too long but it happened the same with
Logarius
, the road to the boss is fairly short but you have enemies in the way that are completely useless, they drop nothing, they probably will never hit you once they're just there being a disposable obstacle.
I find the point 1 to have more weight because I'd love to feel like I did when I did my first steps in the game. That's why I try to not outlevel the game because the challenge it's what excites me the most right now.
For point number 2, why not just run to the boss and ignore the enemies once you got the shortcuts open? That's what I always do. Cainhurst I just take the shortcut and head for the ladder to the boss. After I've originally got the blood echoes from the first run, I usually never worry about the enemies on the path back to the boss unless they have a good chance at dropping some vials.
Also boss wise, yeah you're pretty much right about the bosses starting out amazing, and out of the ones you got left, you might get a bit disappointed especially with one of them.

Thinking I'm gonna finish my NG+ playthrough hopefully before the weekend is done, then all I got left is those Chalice dungeons to get my Platinum! I haven't even done a single Chalice dungeon though and I'm level 128, I have a feeling I'm gonna be stuck in easy stuff for a lonnnnng time haha

It didn't happen to me in my playthrough, but according to the wiki if you use Arianna's blood before you use the nun's, the nun will get jealous and kill her when you're not there. This makes you lose out on one of the cords.
Yeah. I *hated* grinding out some of the materials. Also, to make matters worse, I had to basically beat my NG++ run because I was missing an item that you can ONLY get in
Mergo's
to do the final dungeon. I ended up using the skip in Central Yharnam to get the the Forest and did a boss rush up to that item.
The last chalice dungeon, mileage is going to vary a LOT on this, but I found Defiled to be easier than the final dungeon.
Amy was a lot more straightforward to fight than the Descendant, and Yharnam. All 3 bosses were hard for me, whereas only Amy is hard in the Defiled dungeon
.
All in all, after 65 hours or something, and getting to NG+++... I think I'm done boys.
you can use them as much as you want if you have the materials to use them. there's no limit to the amount of times you can use the chalices, also it's better to get the materials and then search for the chalice dungeons of other people so you don't use your own materials.
only make a chalice dungeon if you want to use fetid offerings. fetid offerings are a way to increase rare item drop rate via increasing the difficulty of the dungeon. these include making enemies more powerful, or opening your dungeon for invasions.

I do that of course otherwise in some places (Woods) would be insane to kill everything, but at Ebrietas you have no choice but to kill the low monsters and I wonder... why don't this monsters drop a vial from time to time instead of having me to travel somewhere else to farm them if I lose? And I keep thinking that their placement is pointless they don't add anything to the experience... bah it's just me angry because I couldn't kill the great one. -_-
And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
How are you guys setting up your Chalice Dungeons? Using the original ones, grinding them and finding secrets then ditching them? How different are the root versions compared to standard?

congrats on discovering the souls series, indeed you have to search every nook and cranny to get to the secret shortcut...it wa sth last ting I found in teh area but I had to backtrack. I actually found the area prior but did nt clear it out for fear of losing a tonne of echoes.
)to not work for me so I struggled with maybe 20-30 attempts. I think one can follow that advice if those don't one-shot you but all it took for me was one hit and there are like 40 of them running around so the chance of getting hit was very high. Once I switched to
killing every spider
it only took a couple of attempts. The key was when you see him launching his arcane attack to start rolling and switch directions with each one. Once Rom is isolated just run in and attack a couple of times and then roll back real quickly like 3x when you see his tail go up. Repeat until win.
Aww, I'm a bit ahead of you on my secondary so I'm SL65, i think that's out of range, supposedly coop rules are different from other Souls games. Maybe someone else can hop onboard to help you out, I'll check back in a bit and maybe I can help you with something else if needed.
Honestly, first time around, I took it super slow, killed all the spiders before goin in and then all outed right after his close AoE.

Ethics question. My friend and I are playing coop and sometimes we get invaded. We don't want to die and are trying to make our way through the level. Is it bad that we team up to take out the invader?
Dude! I've died 10 times on him and basically put the game on hold since I couldn't get anyone to join me. I'm going to PM you and we'll set up a team smash of him tonight. I help you first then you help me?
