I really don't know, when I should do the chalice dungeons.

I want to beat the game but I want the items too.
don't want to overlevel myself.

I think I'm pretty high already.

Where to farm for twin blood stone shards? I'm at unseen village after beating rom

depends if you found that place, but the
vampires in Cainhurst
drop them.

I'm wondering this myself. People raved about it in these games. All I've gotten out of it is losing 20 or so insight, but I'm not sure that's a bad thing anyways. I'm just confused generally about how it works, and, like I said, if it actually does work. It would be really fun to play with some people.

is there just a pwd-summon issue or summoning in general that doesn't work? during BSB I got summoned after 20 seconds I ran the bell. even now at
Cainhurst
I had 4 sessions with no problems (lvl 75). Demon's Souls worked the best for me, because you could immediately see if someone's here and I'd argue that warping from Nexus to one of the 5 worlds, put down my sign, get summoned and bow in front of my summoner took as much time as a random loading screen on Bloodborne. lol

One of the best feelings in this game is when you sidestep an enemies attack when he comes at you off screen.

Like when he just comes in from the side of the screen but bam!
sidestep and im just like "bitch i see you"

So good.

Yeah the co-op system is poorly designed with too many restrictions. Just allow anyone to co-op with anyone else... and just have a formula normalize the current build of the summoned to be upgraded or downgraded to be comparable to the summoner... in not too long when less people are playing the game then co-op is going to be nearly impossible and summoning is going to be a waste of time IMO.

Was summoning this bad in the souls games?

It's varied from game to game. Signs were a better mechanic for seeing if someone was around and willing to co-op, versus ring the bell, spend a resource and hope that someone shows up. It sounds like there may be some network/matching issues as well based on anecdotal reports. Dark Souls 2 co-op was super easy to get going and very rewarding, I used co-op to learn boss patterns, get help when I needed a distraction or extra damage, farm souls. Through 6 bosses and haven't co-oped once in BB.

Thanks. I had asked before but no response. We'll see if anyone shows up. How close do they have to be? I'm at the bath near the fog to One Reborn.

Are you still at the bath? I can't confirm proximity actually does anything, but from what I've tested with a friend who I had on a voice call we took a good amount of minutes waiting for a summon, and then we stood by something similar and it popped immediately.

I DID IT! I finally beaten E
biretas
! Took me like 30 tries, but finally did it. Can finally breathe easy. Best of all, unlike some lucky ones here who got the glitched easy version, I got the tough correct version. Man that is easily the toughest boss for this game so far for me.

Once you get to depth 4 you'll be rolling in blood echoes. If you intend to finish the chalice stuff then do the boss I wouldn't be surprised if you gained 20 levels. Unless you intentionally dump them.

Can somebody explain to me how the chalice dungeons works? I mean, it is REAAAAALLY confusing all that similar names (root, lower, central, etc)!! I know that the depths indicates the difficulty, but what about the names? Does it mean something? Do I need to do ALL of them to get that one trophy?

I just rang behind the wagon that is at the top of the ramp leading to One Reborn. So just past the second bath and the maiden. I'm standing right next to it.

Edit: No dice I guess. Gonna move on and give it another few cracks. Thanks for the info.

yeah, guess I'll beat the game and then clear all the chalice dungeons first thing after starting NG+.

I came out of Ailing Loran with like 200k echoes, after having bailed out once already with like 120 and losing 100k or so to
fucking double bell maidens summoning spiders

I love it, almost done with the game and it is the only weapon I have used. Experimented with the daggers and like those, but overall prefer the cane.

Abhorrent beast
I presume?

Actually killed him last night. That in itself was a frustrating fight but it didn't take me as long as this one has. (Chalice Variation Spoilers)
It's the Watchdog of the Old Ones on the second layer of the Defiled Chalice dungeon. With most my health removed due to the nature of the chalice,
one hit will usually finish me if I get caught in an attack loop.

If you make a gesture near the doll in hunter's dream, she will react depending on the gesture you chose. Maybe everyone but me knew that already, but I found it by accident and thought it was a nice little easter egg.

It is known, but yeah, it's awesome.

Its a crappy part of the game.

But just walk towards the no armor guy in the middle, do a stealth combo and then book it towards the lamp you start out at (past the hopefully dead bell maiden etc). If he comes alone, great, hes easy to finish off. That leaves 2. The second one is at the lower right stairs, sneak behind him from the left stairs and do the same.

The third one I just fought fair and he was ridiculously easy to parry.

Yeah, that's what i did. Lured the first two. And then killed the third. Cannon guy is really easy to parry.
I was having trouble before because they would all aggro at the same time.

Ahh, I didn't have *too* much trouble with him in defiled, but yeah that one shot charge is rough. Especially because his start up animation for it is so similar to his barking flames. More than a couple of deaths thinking he was just going to flame bark and he goes head on charged. Strat I used was constant circle strafing and assuming he will always charged when I saw that animation, worked out well for me. Anticipating that head charge is the most important part of the fight really. Takes forever though since you can only really get in one attack her opening and he has a massive health bar. "Breaking" his head helps up the damage for a bit though.

Abhorrent Beast
gave me a lot more trouble...infuriating.

Does it ever happen that the blood echoes marker on the floor disappears?

I could swear it happened to me twice already. I died at the poisoned gremlins in the church like building in old yarnham, the one where a massive beast is crucified and hanged. I came back, killed every single last enemy, went into circles for half an hour, never found anything. This is without doubt the place where I died. But none of those gremlins gave me back the echoes, and there was nothing on the floor. The second time, I was running back to BSB - i rarely kill any enemy on the way so I can't have died there. I always begin the fight by recovering the echoes on the floor; it's easy esp. since in first phase BSB is so slow. But one time there was no echoes anywhere. Can bosses pick up the echoes?! Or perhaps do echoes disappear when you quit the game, even if properly?

edit: holy shit how can you people have platinumed the game already. I must suck at this so much.

What weapon were you using? I can't decide but I've mostly been using Ludwig's Blade and the Cane. However, I did try the
Burial Blade

Reposting this one, anyone?

So is it really ill-advised to level past 120?

"Everything i'm reading on reddit and otherwise is indicating that's the sweet spot where the PvP community is stopping

Any thoughts on this?"

Okay...valuable lesson about the Bloodletting beast learned: Never leave melee range!
That ranged punch one-hit me. lol

On to the defiled chalice. >.<

It is very easy with the right weapon.
Blade of Mercy transformed into dual wielding weapon is the right for that boss. It stuns him so he won't evade until you deplete your stamina. As you finish your attack, quickly roll because he will hit you with fire in his second phase.

Edit: What level are you? I can help you if you want.

I'm a stubborn bastard who refuses to summon help.

Thanks for the advice, though. My axe is definitely too slow for this fight.

I haven't tried joining someone. I will, but so far I've only tried summoning. A variety of places, both with and without the Gaf password. I dunno - it just seems convoluted and frustrates me. I'd love to play with people.

Got my Platinum today. Only downside for me where the chalice dungeons. The cursed one was super hard. Otherwise i enjoyed it completely.

Yeah, I've read anywhere from 100-120. Reason being once you get past 120 it really negates the need for builds since you have so many fleshed out stats.

Just 2 shotted E
breitas
. I managed to hit its head with a charge attack, rip out its eye, charge again, and charge once more to kill it. That felt fantastic.

Yup
...but there are many optional bosses and locations so be sure to go there first

Oh cool! So I should stop and double back to clean up as many trophies as possible.

I missed
Eileen the Crow
, so I'll have to run through the beginning again for the weapons trophy.

Hoping to get the platinum

Yeah, sucks, sorry about that.
Seems wierd, cause right before that I got summoned by, i think? a gaf group and did the boss.

I used the axe for it but Ludwig should work fine too. Something with reach vertically to punish moves and whack the dog's head, it's a slow burn where you need to be careful the entire time though.

Am I at the end?

I just killed Mergo's Wet Nurse, and now the Hunter's Dream is on fire!

Back up your save AS SOON as you return to the dream if you want the Platinum without doing the game over multiple times.
Almost didn't do that myself, haha.

I love that axe but I figured it was too slow, I'll give that a shot.
Yeah, I feel as though I need to put on some calming music and just let the fight slowly unspool.
