Holy shit, you can see Old Yharnam from the bridge that leads to Father G.

The trees that you see as soon as you step out of the door.

The level of detail is obviously down, but you can easily make out the area. FROM, you so crazy.

Is the enemy 'level' at Cainhurst similar to the ones in the Forbidden?

I probably should do the latter first, but I want to get the weapons from the former.

Is there a second lamp in C
hainhurst
C
astle
?

No. You open up two shortcuts that makes the run to the boss like a minute, however it's stupid that no matter by the time you reach the boss you'll have a little bit of your health chipped off thanks to the sniper guys.

So I was in Byrgenwerth and
killed the old guy and got a rune, then I jumped down and Rom the spider was there to greet me. He kicked my ass so I decided to go to other routes I had left unexplored.
I went to Hemwick and
killed the Witch of Hemwick to finally get the rune workshop tool.
After that I decided to go the other route and after trying to open a door,
the big spider chtulu thing grabbed me and kept saying something about Amygdala, then I appeared in the Lecture building and Nightmare frontier after that.
Guess I should take my time and keep exploring before trying to kill
Rom.

Should I try D
arkbeast
P
aarl
? I tried once before but I think I could go for another run now.

Another than getting one after killing the boss, no.

Yes, but after the boss fight.

GAF, I have Chalice Dungeon question:

Go deeper or start the next one ? Which would be a hintertomb dungeon.

BAD LEVEL DESING !!!! T.T

Pretty neat that dust/dirt flakes from opening doors (specifically in chalice dungeons) have collision detection and physics applied. They bounce off your character and settle on whatever objects are in the way.

I uh.... accidentally killed the old man on the chair right before R
om the spider
. For some reason I thought he's hostile immediately after seeing him and without thinking I uh... struck him down.

Is that a bad thing to do? What's his role in terms of gameplay mechanic and role? I felt silly afterwards, although he did give me an Eye Rune....

Anyway, managed to down the boss itself on the 3rd attempt. 1st and 2nd I ignored the spiders and that strategy fucked me up. The 3rd one I diligently killed them one by one--evading the boss's meteor strike/ground missiles were easy enough and even if they hit they wouldn't be a one/two hits KO since I wore Tomb Prospector set which is high on Arcane. After the spiders are dead it's really at my mercy, hahaha.

People here are platinuming the game while I am still stuck at Vicar. I've beaten her down to less than 10% on so many occasions, but She wrecks me every single time with her infinite combos during that last phase... NGL, this has been the longest roadblock I have ever experienced in a Souls game. SMH.

With that said, I'll be coming back to wipe another several dozen times...

Have you been to
Hemwick
already? I strongly suggest it if you're having trouble with VA.

Take your time and wipe out the first
round of spiders completely. Then run up to Rom and start wailing on him until he teleports. Once he does, as soon as he reappears, make a bee-line right for him. From here on, ignore the spiders. Just run up to Rom and get some hits in, then back off. Be ready to dodge quickly if you see any of the smaller spiders getting ready to attack. The best place to be when not attacking is about mid-range. Too close for him to throw his boulders at you, and too far to be hit by his AoE attack. From there, just rinse and repeat. He'll teleport one last time before he dies, so once again, run over to him as soon as possible
.

Thanks yea I had him close a few times but definitely had to be patient and wait for the right time to get 1 attack and leave towards the end. Got him down!

I didn't know
getting kidnapped by the sack guys brings you to a secret place. I never got killed by them and now they're all gone.

I have yet to step foot into other areas.. except for that one time when..
some sack dude killed me and dragged me to Unseen Village
. That was a horrifying experience. Lord.

What to do about the place where
magical frenzy
is everywhere?

Excuse me for not being involved in this thread, this question has been asked many times I'm sure.

Head left when ascending to the cathedral where VA is
. Trust me; it's a pretty easy area and you'll get a massive amount of echoes, plus some other cool loot.

Ugh stupid bells. I used 4 insights (beckoning bells) to try to connect with my friend on my first Chalice dungeon. He's done a lot and I haven't done any. I'm L66 and he's 76 so that should be fine. He joined my Chalice and we just waited by the lamp trying to connect over and over.

Ebrietas is seriously the hardest boss in the game for me..

Always her damn field in the end that kills me.

i see a few isz root chalices on reddit that have blood rocks, but when i enter the code it says i dont meet the requirements (although i do have the isz root chalice and all the materials it would take to make one)

my only guess is that because i have not made my own isz root chalice dungeon, its not letting me

anyone have confirmation on this?

i wonder if i could just make one, and then move to another headstone and find the one with the code and the blood rock

best bet is to run past those enemies or stack frenzy resistance (runes+clothes) and kill them quickly.

Yeah, you have to make a chalice dungeon first before you can search for them. You can just create it and then delete the dungeon right away I think, but leaving it and moving to another headstone works just fine as well.

There is a clear source for the frenzy and thus easy methods of avoiding it. Look around and try to spot a) the trigger and b) source.

There is a Eye of Sauron -type thing going on. The tower in the middle of the castle contains an entity that causes the effect. It is possible to neutralize later on. 'till then, stay out of sight using the walls and other terrain features.

Boosh! Membership, getto!

nice, yeah i think ill move to another headstone

i did all three of the offerings in one creation and imagine it'll be pretty fun to try and beat

ty for the confirmation

I see lots of people complaining about chunks. What's the big deal? You get enough in one play through to take at least 2 weapons to +9. Do you really need more?
Well, (NG+ spoilers)
I for one, want to try the scythe, but I don't have enough materials to bring it any further than +6. I use a chikage+9 and the cane+8, and blades of mercy at +9 too. So yeah I wish I had more chunks for sure.

I should have farmed some chunks before going into NG+ but eh, seems like it was a pain in the ass...

Where are the earliest chunks again? U
nseen Village
? C
ainhurst
?

Honestly, I'm very disapointed in the blade of mercy. it's level 9 now and I can't make it to deal even HALF the dmg of my starting cleaver. Such a waste of blood stone and such a disapointement. I have no idea where to go I played the game twice with only the starting weapon I wish I could build something else but I'm afraid to loose more recourses and get more disapointement.
How high is your SKL? It scales really really well with skill, and its combos are very quick. I mained them for a good while, until I found the chikage. And it's possibly better than the chikage but I can't resist katanas so.... :P

I think I fucked up my character's stats by lvling up both strength and skill too high. Now I'm an easy target from invaders because it takes so much blood echoes for me to lvl up my vitality. Oh well, time to start with another fresh new character...

Why not just keep leveling and put points into vitality? I don't think the pvp meta level will be as critical in this game as it was in ds2, I can see plenty of pvp happening at high levels like 150+

I could do that. It's just that I'm bummed out from doing this stupidly, especially as a DS2 player, I should've known better.

Anyway, does skill weapons increase with skill stats or strength as well?

I like it. It doesn't hit hard, but it's DPS is pretty insane if you can lay into your target without being stopped, not to mention the hit-and-run you get with the dodge attack. Working on a char right now that's going to main it just to see how effective it is,
just let Eileen die at the Tomb of Oedon
so I just need to save up 40k echoes, so it looks like I'll be helping people with
Bloodstarved Beast
for a little while.

Messing with arcane optimization has made me even more confused. The Attack Ratings on weapons feel completely inaccurate in a way.

Burial Blade +8 has (I'm going off memory but should be fairly accurate) 144 +63 (phys) and 44 +24 (arcane).

Ludwig's +9 is 190 +167 (Arcane).

And both do roughly 180 damage to the basic villagers in Forbidden Woods. I made Ludwig's do Fire damage instead (slightly less AR) and it does ~170.

Ludwig's has significantly higher AR and yet the damage is basically the same which is throwing me off super hard.

edit: On my STR dude my Kirk +10 has 560 (phys) AR and does 300 dmg with each sword swing to the basic villagers in Yarnham (NG+). I imagine the actual DEF is roughly the same so the numbers should be going through the same resistance filters.

I typically only get to play in bits and pieces. Just had a very productive half hour. Opened up 2 shortcuts in the Forbidden Woods. Both were brilliant. The first taking you all the way back to
Central Yarnam and a path to go inside Iosefka clinic
and another that goes back to the starting lantern. Level design is so amazing.

I also found a Cannon. Damn, 30 Str to wield it. No more two-handing technique to cut the stat in half. Is it worth leveling?

Aldo, Woods is also great for grinding Echoes, got enough to justify the purchase of Ludwig Holy Blade And upgrade to +6. A very productive 30 minutes I would say.

Ludwigs will only do arcane damage if you have an arcane damage gem on it, but at the same time it wont' do any more physical damage. It's one or the other. Burial has built in arcane damage with it, so it scales with both.

Can you tell me the name of the weapons or it's location ? I think I missed it.

No no.

I know. I've beaten the game with the fire gem (and then the bolt gem) in it.

I'm saying the AR numbers just seem off, even considering resistances.

edit: I say this because I have 40 Arcane and 12 Skill

I assume most standard enemies probably just have really really really low phys def vs. arcane/fire/bolt.

Oh well.

edit: In conclusion: Arcane builds seem to just suck cause you don't get the customizability you'd want for weapons through the gem system. If I could actually shift my damage for the Burial Blade or Blades of Mercy I might actually like it but most weapons either don't have the scaling to back it up or they're the Ludwig blade and have good arcane scaling on a shit-ass shit weapon.

skl is 50. i cant deal anything compared to the cleaver
