Wow, this area is fucking brutal.
Nightmare of Mensis is absolutely kicking my ass. Died at least 10 times now trying to get to that door whilst trying not to get frenzied only to be completely wrecked by a bunch of spiders.
I think I'm level 66, am I underlevled for this area?

No you're fine. I did it at level 62. The trick is to just run all the way to the door and avoid the whole area. Once you get in go to the right, kill the
bell ringer
,
take out the
small spider that is just hanging there, go the the middle of the bridge and take out those spiders, then come back down hand have the spiders chase you back into that area so that you can take them out without having to fight the big spider. once you've take out the little guys, the big spider is super easy, but only if you know what to do, which is always be behind it. if you attack it from behind it won't be abel to hit you

You are underleveled yes, I finished the game at 65 but I realized that I was underleveled and people told me that I was.

Regarding the spiders, lure them out through the main gate (where you come from), they won't come out so you can kill them with a long range weapon. Same with the big one.

Edit: You can kill the bell ringer in stealth mode and the spiders won't notice you but don't go further.

That's a pretty fair level for that area. I think I was level 74 when I beat the game on my first playthrough so you're right about where I was at that point.

I'm at level right now and I'm fighting
Gehrman
. Did you have a lot of trouble with him? I keep losing to him. I'm using
Ludwig's Holy Blade
and my ATK is at 190. Is that enough?

Smart, found it, went back...same big dude was there....had my blobs............proceeded to kick my arse....Farewell 15k blobs 8(
Those guys are assholes. I beat them by doing R2 attacks with Ludwig blade. They are slow so just stay out of reach our they will ruin your day. Great treasure outside!

My least favorite thing in bloodborne :/ Very annoying how quickly and how much health gets taken away.

Sedatives help, or frenzy res runes.

Would make it better if we knew what caused it. I can see like the psychic brain things, but I got hit by the cross wielders in Cathedral Ward and they cause frenzy, no rhyme or reason

Wow, I'm that close to the end? Doesn't feel like it. I don't really understand what is going on at all haha.

put on anything that gives you higher Frenzy resist. Keep Sedatives in your quick use slot and just run like a mofo. Also, leveling up ain't such a bad idea cuz the enemies in that building hit hard.

Getting frenzied wasn't really the problem.
I just used the rune that increases frenzy resist. it's just the enemies are taking half of my life with each hit.

I'm not actually sure whether it does hah. I think I was around 50 insight at that time, and found it really tough as well. I tried luring the creatures out into the light so they'd take some damage as well. Theres a shortcut not far from the spiders, which I just bolted for as quickly as I could.

I think I've only spent insight on the armor sets as I like to have all the collectable stuff on one of my characters. Guess I'm lucky I did as I was struggling quite a bit.

I don't think that's a lot of insight. I beat the area with 80 insight around your level. It was really annoying though.

Wow, how did you have so much insight? I must've missed a lot of optional bosses heh.

Anyway, I've managed to cross the bridge
and completely wrecked that hunter(?)
Now in the other side of the building and have opened up the shortcut so I don't have to go through all that shit again.

Level 126. I shouldn't feel happy for just soloing the Shadows of Yharnam in NG+, but I do. I really do. I get addicted to grinding in these games.

question: Can I co op with a much lower level friend who is just starting the game, or does the 15 level range still apply?

I actually feel the same way. I like grinding. Well...I don't mind it at least. I guess I get that from my Everquest days. THAT was a a grind.

Got through Yar'agaragaragulablublu and beat the big, boney boss there. Got my Strength up to 30 and had a nice, shiny +6 Cannon waiting for me.

I'm Level 80 now. Let's wreck some bosses!

I completed the game. Man....what a ride! It had its ups and downs. I was stressed, outraged but the pay off was great. Overall I fucking loved this game. Definately going for a New Game + this time round in order to get the platinum.

Major spoiler >
I used up 3 umbilical cords just before initiating the conversation with Gherman. I refused and defeated him, next thing I knew another beast shows up; which is probably the main main boss of the game.
I think I made a good choice out of the 3 potential endings.

Okay seriously, Defiled Watchdog. What's the deal ? OS ko on 50% of his move.

Some attack leave him open for a quick dash in, a single hit, dash out, BUT, sometimes he has ramdom follow up.

Huge hit box. work on his side, angle behind him, he charge forward (AWAY) I get OS.

What is the strat ?

Wit
ch of Hemlock defeated, so now I should try to get to Rom now

Getting to Rom would be good. Make note of where Iosefka's Clinic access via the Forbidden Woods is located. Don't trouble Iosefka just yet. After Rom is defeated visit the clinic and collect all the things. Now you go back to the witches' lantern. Leave the cave and take a look around that brief bit of countryside there. A cutscene and a new area await.

OMG I have to do the Defiled Pthumeru Chalice to get the Platinum?
Half Health
? Wut... I only have one trophy left to get the Platinum.

I didn't want to run all the way through it as I needed to funnel the spiders with the door that opens into the building. So I had to kill those two white monsters outside the building and that meant beating those bipedal white wolfs as they chased me all the way to the door last time I tried to run everything lol.

Either way, thanks for the tips but I managed to negotiate the area myself and have opened the shortcut on the other side of the building :D

I managed to kill the bell ringer my first time into the building. She didn't respawn when I went there a second time. Don't really understand why. Isn't she the same as all the other bell ringers in Unseen Village? Either way, it was the big spider that destroyed me first time round. It has such a massive reach. Managed to cheese it with poison knives!

oh, gotta dodge and weave during the runs. :p

Even if I did, I'm pretty terrible at it. Ever Souls game I try and do it and I usually get killed before I make it to the boss. Only time I really perfected it was for the Ancient Dragon as the whole area was ridiculously unfair.

Ludwig's was one of my main weapons late game but I couldn't find it a use against Gerhman, I killed him with Blades of Mercy, needed fast hits. Draw his attacks, wait until he makes the charge attack while keeping a certain distance he won't hit you with his second attack so you can come close fast and hit him, if his second attack is a jump, roll because that can hit you but after that you'll be able to hit him.

This was my whole strategy for the first half of the fight, the second half is land a few parries and visceral attacks.

My video of the fight

Now doing Defiled Chalice and am lucky the 1st boss is K
eeper of the Old Lords
who is easy enough to parry. Currently can get him to 50% before I die. Need to get HP up a bit more. After I tackle this guy, I'll take a break, and prob come back in NG+ when I can get more souls for leveling up much easier.

Yeah, I might have been a little over confident since I didn't really have any problems with the mid-late game bosses, but he humbled my ass real quick lol. Think it took me close to a dozen tries to finally beat him. I was also using
LHB
(it was +10 though I'm not sure what the attack rating would have been- can't remember what my strength and skill levels where at the time).

It's definitely doable. Just keep adjusting your strategies.
He has some attacks that are pretty easy to parry when he is two handing his weapon
. Really just comes down to timing your dodges and picking the right times to get a few hits on him.

stay in front of him, not too far, just out of reach. Lure him into his biting moves and when he is recovering from those get ONE hit in. Watch for the bright fire flash indicating he is going to run over you, dodge to the side if that happens. When he stops to barf up lava get multiple hits in. Other than that just keep baiting him and hitting him once.

How is your ATK only 190, unless not including runes. I'm at lvl 62 and my attack is at like 280 with the runes I've found.

It's a different bell ringer, same with the one in Nightmare frontier, once you kill her she won't come back.

On my way to Rom. Didn't get to play any yesterday as I got a new Vita and 64gb card and I spent most of the day getting a ton of games loaded on it. Who knew there was actually a limit to the items to you could queue up for download.

Really excited to fight Rom as I hear the game changes after. I'm considering getting all the trophies for the game so I need to make sure I get the badge from Eileen the Crow first.

Same here. Been on the level 2 boss since almost 24h. Probably 200 tries now. I just can't. This thing is faster than me. much bigger : leap forward / backward faster than me. OS me in almost every move. Got random follow up patterns... This is a nightmare

First meet wit E
brietas and i thought "what is the fuss about" ... she was down to 25 % health without problems (Ludwig's +10, lvl 81 with 33 STR 30 Skill) and then she just one shotted me with lasers o_O

Lol, second try: two hits and i'm dead. Whats happening -_-

Anyone know where the 3rd Clockwise Metamorphosis rune can be found? Like is there a specific chalice? Or any random root dungeon?

keep a cool head. i was staying in front and hitting him with a long weapon most of the time. you have to learn his patterns. hes very vulnerable when spitting lava, but you prob knew that already.

Unlike the bell ringers in Unseen Village, the Nightmare bell ringers (in Nightmare Frontier and Nightmare of Mensis) summon other players to invade your game. They don't respawn when you kill them.

Will try that... but he's so random in his bite, sometimes he follows up

So I kept putting off fighting
Amygdala
, I went in and wrekced the bitch. I was on my couch like, Yea , Yea, Yea, Oh Fuck Yea. My girlfriend was laughing, because she's used to hearing me go, oh fuckin come on. LOL

Vid for record sake:)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzSBX_76QxE

LOL Nice! I know that feel too about with the girlfriend.

I can't even fight bosses with her in the room anymore. When I get pissed off and yell at the TV I always get "It's only a game" bullshit line. Like I forgot it was a video game.

Having her in the room while I fight a boss is more stressful than the boss fight itself.

I have runes but I may have the wrong ones. :P

If you have advice it could help me through new game + because I do so little damage. XD
I maxed out the blades with the blood rock so if I have a problem are the runes.

hehe you could just open the weapon upgrade screen and scroll through all your runes, you will see the stats change as you scroll through and can easily see which ones will improve your attack that way.

Wow, I'm that close to the end? Doesn't feel like it. I don't really understand what is going on at all haha.

I guess it depends on how much side stuff you've done/want to do before you finish. I probably should have phrased my post different so it wasn't quite so spoilery. Sorry about that!

Is E
brietas
supposed to be difficult? I stumbled across her right after C
elestial
E
missary
without knowing what I was doing, and managed to beat her on my first attempt.

She was definitely the easiest boss for me so far... I even died to the W
itch
of H
emwick
once.

I did accidentally summon a cooperator due to not firing a silencing blank after the previous boss, but still, she seemed to be pretty easy regardless! Video incoming.

If you had an easy fight with her, you probably got the glitch that causes her to do one move over and over and never do her second form. When not glitched, it's easily one of the top tier difficulty bosses outside of the Chalices.
