Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

I've listened to the Halo 4 soundtrack and it's much better than hearing it in the game, maybe not instantly recitable like Marty's Halo stuff, it does fall into could be anything movie soundtrack at times. The game mix absolutely destroys it, hopefully they've learned from that.

The mix absolutely killed it for a lot of people. Listening to the soundtrack on its own is a whole different experience. It's decent music overall, but it absolutely shines when Jinnouchi steps in. It's just such a shame that the mix ruins it.

Manly tears over Halo are considered OK during work hours.

Okay good 👊😭

Im really liking the Halo 5 soundtrack. There is like 5 or 6 tracks that play if you sit on the beta title screen. Its slightly different style but its right there with the old Halo OSTs, maybe even better in spots - the building horns bit from the end of the multiplayer reveal video is incredible. So grand.

Grand is an excellent word. It truly is, from what we've heard so far.

I am pretty sure that in the books they specifically state that Spartan-IIs are rendered sterile by the augmentations that they had to endure.

They aren't sterile. Their sex drives are just very suppressed. This doesn't mean they can't have kids or can't want to have kids, or even a mate as well.

I really need to read more of the background info because it adds sooo much to the story.

The original Xbox came out when I was in college so I grabbed it and CE and fell in love. I played that game so much back then it was ridiculous. However after CE I never got into the multiplayer much--I've always favored larger battles and/or slower paced games (played a lot of Ghost Recon back then, play a lot of Battlefield now). I still bought and played 2 and 3 but by 3 I had given up on multiplayer. I loved 4 and even had fun in big team battle.

When the MCC collection came out my son and I played through all of the campaigns in order and it really cemented just how much I loved Halo 4 (flame suit on). I really like how they made the Covenant much less cartoonish and more intimidating/scary. A large part of that was having them not speak english (aka no grunts yelling goofy lines) and the redone graphics. And for as much as I hated their decision to hide big chunks of story in the terminals, that's really my only major complaint. I'm more excited for Halo 5 than I have been for any Halo game in a long time. Cannot wait!

Also hope they continue the excellence with the live action commercials. The first Halo 5 one was good, but man that Halo 3 campaign is still one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. (To the point where I was pissed at the story in the game because it didn't measure up to the expectations set by the marketing.)

I look forward to the day when I have kids of my own and I can go through the entire Halo experience with them. Having the MCC at your fingertips, as a new Halo player... That's a gift that might easily be taken for granted. I can't imagine not having to have waited years in between each of these titles!

One thing that I noticed on Halo 4 is that those shield guys are much harder to break through. I try to shoot them with covenant pistol or to shoot in their hands where they hold their weapons. Am I doing something wrong?

Cant wait to get home and play more of it!

You have to be more accurate in Halo 4 in shooting them in the cutout gap. They also don't stagger as easily as they do in previous titles if you hit their shield proper.

Yup I noticed that too... they can be quite dangerous now.
Yeah, I'll keep hitting them in that gap then, its working just fine. Thanks once more!!

If 343i could do some characters presentation and back story in the main menu it would have been great for those new to the Halo universe. Have it narrative by the guy in Halo waypoint. Like Who is MB. Didact. Precursors. Forerunners. Halo rings. And so on. Kinda like Mass effect in a way. Little back story for those who only play the games and haven't read the books.

Dose feels. The story in Halo 4 is literally dripping with emotion and also with dread. There's so much at stake.

Seriously, I really enjoyed the story of Halo 4. It had some weaknesses, but the fact that 343 already had the foundation for good storytelling down and the seemingly solid direction they're moving with the story for Halo 5 Guardians, I'm not worried.

I think 343i really has a chance with Halo 5 to show what the stewards of the Halo franchise are truly capable of.

Couldn't agree more. I think we're in for something truly special. If anything, the live-action trailers and the Hunt the Truth ARG are testaments to thus.

Even Marty fell off the rails though. He hit his peak at Halo 3. Halo 3 ODST was excellent, but it wasn't as good as Halo 3's. Halo Reach had some high points but was more or less a forgettable soundtrack.

And then there's destiny... Ooof.

I'm not sure if bringing him back would be the right move. If it were still the Halo 3 days, then hell yeah, but currently... I dunno. Seems like he lost some of his mojo.

I like new and fresh voices. Jinnouchi is feeling pretty new and fresh right now.

I don't know about Marty falling off. Highly disagree about ODST as well, that soundtrack is just amazing. I'm not the biggest fan of destiny either but the music is top notch. I don't know how he'd do on Halo 5 but I mean no way should he be spoken of as if he's "lost some of his mojo."

The destiny soundtrack has a few good selections but it's mostly forgettable compared to his past work.

I like the ODST soundtrack a lot!! It's jazzy and fun. But what he did in Halo 3 was just phenomenal.

Halo 3 has the best sandbox for campaign out of any Halo. Fact. Weapons, Equipment, Vehicles, Enemy AI, Level and Encounter Design. It one ups every other Halo game, including 4. 4 was a step down, a trade-off to get the game to 720p and have it be "shinier". Unfortunately, Halo 3's art, colour grading, and lighting system is still better when compared at 1080p60 on Xbox One. Where does Halo 4 come ahead? Presentation and Sound. That's it. But I fault 360's hardware more than 343i's capabilities. Halo 5 campaign gonna impress no doubt about it.

Agreed about Halo 3 having the best sandbox. 4 was a more straightforward affair. A bridge, if you will, between Bungie's Halo and where 343 wants to take Halo. Bridges can be narrower, and more to a point. Where we come out on the other side, with Halo 5, will give us a pretty clear view of what we'll be playing for the next few games.

The limitations of the 360 had some to do with it. Also, I think 343 held back here and there with some aspects, as they didn't want to take too many risks.

I think we'll see the gloves off in Halo 5. Just look at the marketing so far. One glove might already be slipping off.

I'm still taking Halo CE's campaign. The run from PoA through AotCR is near perfect design.

Can't fault ya there. For when Halo CE came out, it was light-years ahead of anything else. The level design, though repetitive at times later in the game, was a real treat.

Halo 2 Volume 2 is GOAT. ODST a close second. Halo 3, CE, and Reach tied for third :P

Destiny's music was gutted and ruined by Bungie. Music of the Spheres was supposed to be released as a prequel album for Destiny, but it will likely never see the light of day, sadly. We hear a couple excerpts here and there in Orbit and in the Tower, and they stand out as these beautifully organic tracks that swish to and fro between epic and dainty... and it saddens me every time. It's some of the first music we ever heard for Destiny, a year plus before launch... And we'll probably never hear it as Marty intended.

The Hope
The Ecstacy
The Rose 1 and The Rose 2
The Tribulation
The Ruin (the best track in the entire game by far, this one is Destiny to a "T")
The Union

To me, the quality difference between those tracks above and the rest of the soundtrack is clear. Something happened... :(

You clearly don't understand winkyface means I am kidding.

This isn't worth any of our time, but your winkyface was on the original post, not the "opinion" one. Something wasn't conveyed like you'd have wanted if several people around an exchange didn't follow you.

This makes me all the more sad for what destiny could have and should have been. Gahhhh. Bungie why.

Lol. I was agreeing that opinions exist. Like damn. it's not hard to follow at all. Talking to you isn't worth my time either.

Is there a level on Halo 4 known for being bad, as Library, Gravemind or Cortana? (besides I actually had fun with both Cortana - in co-op - and Library)

I'm at Infinity, and am finally geeting the hang of the gameplay changes. Am absolutely loving it now! Would just like to be prepared if there's some frustrating level ahead.

Let's just drop this squabble or move it to private chat. Misunderstandings all around. Not worth further debate. 👍

Not really, no. Not that I can think of. It gets a bit hairy near the end as you face wave after wave of Knights and Crawlers as you move towards the finale, but there's nothing anywhere close to the madness of Cortana or the Library.
Mainly because the Flood does not make an appearance :p

Just finished the level before Infinity and I'm having a blast now. That end of chapter!!
Really loving the visuals too... with its resolution treatment It's praiseworthy even for this gen standards.

Amazing game so far!
I know 343 has being taking a quite different approach compared to Bungie; I realized it already with both Halo 5 Beta and Halo 4 campaing now; but they're doing a great job imo. Both games (H5B and H4) seems pretty awsome to me.

Not really, it's probably got the least bullshit out of any Halo in terms of the campaign.

Replaying the games in the MCC in co-op made me realize how much the series has relied on going through the same/similar environments for the campaign length. I still think the individual encounters are strong enough that it works out overall, but going through Halo 4 it was nice having as many distinct territories as it did.

The Halo 5 OST samples sound great cus they sound similar to Marty's work and nothing like Halo 4's crap OST, well it wasn't crap...but it wasn't Halo either.

Halo 5 on the other hand....THIS is halo

It was so refreshing not having to walk down the same hallway ten times, back and forth. Say what you will about Halo 4, but repetitive level design was nearly nonexistent.

Sorry if this isn't the place for this but I'll buy a XBO tomorrow and I'll get a copy of Halo MCC with it. Does MCC feature all the games needed for me to understand Halo lore, etc? Is the coop 100%? Can I still access Halo 5 beta?

The Suppressor is OP as hell. It's one of my favorite Halo weapons, easily.

I always loved it when Knights teleported close without the one hit kill annoyance or you snuck up, grenade and close range surprise!! and melee if ammo runs out. Even worked on legendary if you judged it well enough and picked your battles then ran like a wuss for cover before the rest get you or one hit kill you.

I'm going to answer your second and third questions first: yes, and no, respectively. Coop is laggy and somewhat problematic, but what else is new, and the Halo 5 beta ended in January.

As for the first one, if you want to understand *all* the lore, you're going to need a lot more than the games :P

MCC comes with Halo 1, 2, 3 and 4. There's still ODST and Reach. ODST will be released in the future for MCC aswell, not Reach (at least, no word at it until now). I've recently started Halo 4, and until now the lore is not really clear to me, so I guess you may want to read something or watch the series or the movie to get it completely (I have not watched any).

The co-op split-screen works fine to me! I've played a bunch of split-screen co-op on Halo 2 and 3 with my cousin and have noticed clear frame-rate drops, but nothing game breaking, we had a blast anyway. I tried some online co-op sepcially on Halo CE, and it was a bit laggy but still fun (split-screen is better though). Aslo, keep in your mind that it will depend on both the distance between the 2 players, and the internet connection of the host.

And nope... Halo 5 Beta cannot be accessed anymore, sadly they closed it already.

Coop is laggy even if I play with someone that lives 5km from me? Didn't know the beta already ended, bawww :c.

And regarding the lore, yeah I know that there are books, etc, but can I at least understand part of the lore by playing, right?

Part of it, yeah. A lot of the really good stuff is limited to the books, but you'll be able to understand what's going on just fine.

Except Halo 4. Watch the Terminals on Youtube before you start 4.

You can follow the lore just fine all the way up to Halo 4. Before playing Halo 4, watch the Halo 4 terminals. Or, make sure to find each one while playing. Just make sure to watch them.

The terminals in Halo CE are also great to watch as well. They aren't necessarily vital to Halo CE itself but they tie into Halo 4 loosely also.

And if you have any questions, just ask. We're always happy to talk about the lore!

There's even a Halo Lore Thread that's available. It's chock full of spoilers, so venture with caution, or just wait until you finish all 4 games before diving into that rabbit hole.

Alright! Thanks for the answers!

I got a little "worried" about understanding the lore properly because I always heard a lot of good things about it.

It can sometimes get... Complicated. But not in a bad way- it's just that it becomes so complex that there's multiple plot threads happening all at once, or sub threads working behind them, that it's easy to go "hey wait a sec.. What?!"

But it's all very coherently laid out, ultimately. It's the order that we are given some of the pieces of the puzzle sometimes that makes it tricky... Plus, that some of the pieces are meant to be found in the novels, or the ARGs, etc... Which is what the Halo Lore Thread is for. :)

Um, there most certainly is a tedious level in Halo 4. After Chief takes the Pelican and you have to ride the INCREDIBLY slow gondola. Is the section hard? Meh, maybe on Legendary, but it sure as hell takes forever.

Edit: Shutdown. That's the name. Whole thing is tedious.
