Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

You know the answer to my Bone Marrow question perhaps? About whether its effect last until the next shot (meaning say, you can apply it at the beginning of an area and it will still be there in the end if you don't fire your gun at all) or whether there's a time limit to it? (shoot it in the next ____ seconds or you lose the effect)?

I think it lasts until you fire it or at least for quite a long time, but if you switch guns or change a melee weapon into 2h mode it will instantly go away.

I think it's fine. It's stab-damage, and some enemies take extra damage from stabs. Squid fuckers, for example, take like triple damage from stabs.

I have Burial Blade and Reiter at +10. I just switch them depending on what kind of enemy I'm facing.

now Burial blade, thats a weapon that I love. Is it just me or is your dodge "better" when using it. I feel I roll faster and further than I do with Ludwigs.

Ugh, almost getting to the point where I'm almost not having fun (Mensis)

Having to run past all those guys, then past the dozen spiders I have to kill and continuously die at that stupid hunter that takes half my health with every blow is getting extremely frustrating.

Nightmare of Mensis
is easily the worst area of the game. Power on through.

Just rebumping with some things fixed, thanks to all those who helped out before. I can't stress how much there isn't a complete list like this anywhere I was able to find in my searching, and I want to contribute it to the wiki. Even the official controls doc for example makes no mention of the fact that backstep, rolling, and running attacks are unique...!

There is one thing in that doc I don't even get... it says:
Left-hand weapon attackW (*unleashes unique attack when two-handing right-hand weapon)
..is this true? It means transformed to the longer-range form by two-handing, right? Or is there some other form of two-handing certain weapons? On the weapons I have, L2 just shoots my gun no matter what form it's in. If L2 is indeed a unique melee attack for certain weapons, I definitely want to include a mention of that.

If you have the chance to read this over and see if anything else looks wrong or is missing, please do. Thank you!

For anyone who wanted clarification on what moves do or don't exist:

General
Left Stick to move.
Right stick to move camera.
D-pad Up sacrifices HP for bullets.
D-pad Down switches equipped consumable item.
D-pad Left switches equipped left-hand weapon.
D-pad Right switches equipped right-hand weapon.
X accepts menus and interacts.
Hold X + move controller in prescribed direction performs a gesture. The controller motions can be seen on the gesture screen.
Square uses the currently equipped consumable item.
Hold O and move left stick to sprint. Press O again while sprinting to leap.
On a ladder, Hold O + Left Stick Up to climb fast.
On a ladder, Hold O + Left Stick Down to slide down.
On a ladder, R1 to punch up
On a ladder, R2 to kick down.
Options opens the menu.
Right side of Touchpad opens the Personal Effects screen.
Left side of Touchpad opens the Gestures screen.

Combat
Triangle uses a Blood Vial to heal.
R3 (click right stick) locks on to enemies. Switch between targets by moving the right stick while locked on.
R1 is a light right-hand attack. R1, close to enemy when staggered is a Visceral Attack.
R2 is a heavy right-hand attack. Hold R2 for a charged heavy right-hand attack. From behind, charged attacks stagger enemies for a Visceral Attack.
Forward + R2 is a heavy right-hand jump attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)
L2 is a shot/attack from your left-hand weapon. Used to interrupt an attack before impact, this staggers enemies for a Visceral Attack. When holding certain right-hand weapons with two hands, L2 is a unique melee attack instead.
L1 transforms your weapon. This can be used while moving. L1 after any other attack is a transformation attack, leaving your weapon in its other form.
O is a backstep.
O + R1 is a backstep right-hand light attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)
O + R2 is a backstep right-hand heavy attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)
O + L1 is a backstep + transformation attack, leaving your weapon in its other form.
O + Left Stick (any direction) is a roll. If locked onto and close to an enemy, you will sidestep instead of rolling.
O + Left Stick (any direction) + R1 is a rolling right-hand light attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)
O + Left Stick (any direction) + L1 is a roll + transformation attack, leaving your weapon in its other form.
Hold O + Left Stick (sprint) + R1 is a running right-hand light attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)
Hold O + Left Stick (sprint) + R2 is a running right-hand light attack. (attack is different depending on weapon form)

Notes for Souls Series Veterans
There are always habits to unlearn and break when going from one of these games to another. Obviously a lot has changed combat-wise in this one, but the things I really needed to sit down and tell myself were: there is no Forward + R1/"kick" attack, charged R2s are a huge deal, and there are definitely separate running and backstep attacks for R1 and R2, in each weapon form. Finally, unlike backstab/riposte, visceral attacks can be performed on seemingly any enemy, including bosses, though some enemies may take multiple shots to stagger.

If anyone sees any issues with this or anything I didn't include, please let me know, I'd like it to be as accurate as possible.

So, I send the
beggar (the one from the woods)
back to the
Cathedral
because I heard it was easier to face him there. Have I made a huge mistake?

It means transformed. For example, the transformed
Chikage
will do a thrust attack. You lose the ability to fire your gun.

He will
kill
the
other refugees
eventually. I fought him there on my first play-through and it went alright, no aggro from other enemies.

If you play coop with a friend by Beckoning him, does he gain the same progress as you? Or does he have to do everything we just did after he leaves?

I loved it lol. Full Crow gear, plus Rune that offers +200 Frenzy RES ensured Frenzy never gave me too many issues, but still enough of a consideration to force patience and advance planning. And the hunter I killed with two blasts from my Cannon and a few slashes. Killed him before he could even hit me.

L2 is unique in transformed mode in some weapons. It is by far the move I use the most on Burial Blade.

ludwig does an overhead swing when in two hand form and pressing L2. its not necessarily unique though as you do the same as the third swing in an R1 combo in two handed mode.

He gains the echoes and an insight on boss kill. He doesn't retain the progress, though. He still has to clear it in his game.

Thanks! So some weapons but not all, I wonder how many are like that. Will add it.
Pretty much every weapon that you use in both hands when transformed. Blade of Mercy has an awesome evasive move tied to L2, Burial Blade had a good overhead attack. They are basically alternative heavy R2 attacks.

That counts, because you can access the attack without prior inputs. But actually, this just makes it even more baffling... they mention that in the official doc, but not for example backstep attacks, which are four completely unique attacks per weapon.

Awesome :D I want blades of mercy pretty bad.

edit: Seems like maybe a majority actually work that way. Threaded Cane and Saw Spear, the only two I have, definitely don't, lol

Do you have to do something special to get your stream to show up on the directory on twitch? Streaming some bloodborne, have 3 viewers yet it's not even under the game's streams on there.

Watching this guy fight Rom is going to give me an ulcer, holy shit. He keeps using nothing but fully charged attacks and wondering why he's getting blown up. He also hasn't made the connection that meteors stop when you get closer to him. Ugh. Rom is so fucking simple.

Run by him. A shortcut/elevator awaits you.

Yeah I cheesed the fuck out of those guys. I had them chase me to a cell room and closed the door and attacked them through the bars. I do not know anyone who took on all three at once and won...

went out the side door, went around behind the guy on the lower stairs, visceral'd him for decent damage and threw some more hits and a parry into visceral, managed to take him down as things got heated. took the party back out the way I came, parried the kid with the beast claws a few times and got him down. Then it was just me and spear bro and in the one mode all of his attacks are forward stabs which means circle strafing is super effective. I think I got a parry in but I find thrusting attacks tough to parry. anyways I worked him down too and that was that.

Used up a lot of blood vials (10-12) and bullets (20+) on em though. Just using the bullets sometimes to keep an enemy from doing something I don't want em doing.

I beat
Gehrman
but the fight was sloppily done. I cannot believe how bad I did, especially after surviving the chalice dungeon. Anyone else had problems with him?

I had trouble reliably stunning him so I just used the fact that I respawn
20 ft away to learn all of his moves and how to dodge them. Final time I fought him went pretty smooth.

Yeah in the beginning. Phase 3 gets retarded.

Oh but yeah phase three I was just kinda holding onto my ass trying not to die.

Running past the guys is easy enough once you get the pathing down and I would suggest catching aggro from the spiders and then falling back into the room JUST before all the spiders hanging from the ceiling. The small ones will follow you through as they fall (usually groups of 2 or 3) for easy kills and the momma can't make it through the door at all. Kill at your leisure.

Dat hunter doe? Gonna have to git gud. That fucking bridge is brutally confined.

so anyone wanna help with rom the spider bla bla bla

fuck i just wanted to finish this playthrough so i can move on

disappointed there aren't more strenght weapons and the chikage which i want scales on bloodtinge
