Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

Not open for further replies.
Can anyone help me kill Abhorrent Beast in Ailing Loran dungeon? I created a new character based off Chikage and he's become really difficult compared to my first character that can kill him easy with the Ludwig because of the nice range attacks. I'm lvl 85.

I love the game, but can't shake of the feeling that I'm a bit underwhelmed by it.
Due to the lack of new weapons and armor upgrades (as in new, better items, not just reallocation of the same stat threshold), no unique rings and useless gems, there is a lack of progression and no real reward for exploring. I'm running around with the same weapon and armor combo since the start of the game. Halberd (never use the 1h version) and a mix of Yarham Hunter + Father G attire. I think I replaced my gloves/pants once for Carred Hunter, but that's about it.
The levels are are also not different enough for me to clearly remember them. In every Souls game so far, you could speak about "Blighttown" or "4-1" or "Iron Keep" and you could clearly think about the level and the boss fights. Speaking about "Old Yarnham", "Central Yarnham" or "Cathedral Ward" just draws a blank when I try to think about the "level". There are a few exceptions, like "
Forbidden Forest
" (easily one of the worst areas of all games combined btw) or
Castle Cainhurst
.
Not a single remarkable boss fight either so far. All the bosses I've fought: First try:
Father G (which I found first still being level 10, Cleric Beast, Vicar, Witch, Rom, Darkbeast, One Unborn, Amygadala
, 2nd try:
Logarius, Shadow
.
Only
Blood-Starved Beast
was able to take me 5 tries or so, before I skipped all the gimmick crap trying to oil him or parry him and just dashed through his attack behind him and went ham and I still don't like the fight really. Other bosses are unimaginably dumb designed, like
Witch
and
Shadow
, both easily among the worst "multiple bosses". Not hard, just dumb and/or lazy.
Amygadala
and
Unborn
do nothing once you cling to their legs / tail / body apart from stomping and jumping occasionally. :X
I dunno, the first few hours were among the best of the franchise, almost on if not on the same the level of Dark Souls / Demon Souls goodness. Carefully clearing everything, unlocking shortcuts, becoming lost and walking into the 2nd boss fight unknowingly without ever having the chance to spend any souls etc. It took a slight nose dive after that I feel, since everything was just a repeat.
There is just something bugging me about the game which drags down my enjoyment a bit. I'm still having a blast, don't get me wrong, but I feel it could have been something even better.

This is not a Souls game , it retains some elements but you can not compare it, as you say is easier and you can end the game with the 1st weapon and armor you get , I guess From / Sony developed the game to a wider gameplayer community and not just thinking on Souls niche players. This is good because a lot of new players that are enjoining Bloodborne will have curiosity about Soul series and won't find it so difficult since they played BB,

edit: Chalice dungeons are seriously underwhelming and boring too. I dunno if I can stand the grind to face the extra boss. So far the boss fights were utterly uninspired and as easy as it can get.

Amygdala
would spit acid shit on the ground/stomp/jump/and swing arms around and back at me if I clung to the feet too long. I was able to bait the stomps sometimes but not consistently.

I've read that memory leak thing causes people to have really uninteresting boss fights. Maybe happened to you? *shrug*

I don't put my PS4 in rest mode ever so I never have experienced a boss fight where the boss did one or two moves only due to the memory leak. Add insight into the mix too because I kept running into these bosses with 40+ insight and seeing moves and attacks that my buddies were not. My experience so far hasn't been boring yet EXCEPT...

So far the only boss fight I was able to cheese out was
Rom with a flamesprayer
. After he killed me a lot of times I decided to try something different and it worked out.

Forgot to mention this a few days ago but I have a confession to make:
I cheesed the Micolash fight in NG+ because he kept 1-shotting me in his second phase. I ended up chasing him around and taking swings whenever he ran past me. No amount of arcane def could help me survive his blast so how are you supposed to do it?

he stops casting the blast if you hit him hard enough

Take out the one that shoots the fireballs right away. Chip away at the final two slowly over time so that you don't need to deal with that crazy giant snake more they like to do. The fight is honestly easy if you have a fast one hander and force them against a wall.

You need to be a bit back from him, and then roll/forwardstep through the beams. Timing is rather precise.

The other alternative is stay really close to him and hope he doesn't do it. After I died from him spamming it on my first attempt, that's what I did, and he didn't even do it on the second attempt.

You can avoid said attack. It's pretty easy to dodge.

Yeah that boss fight is definitely one of the most difficult ones on NG+. I actually ended up summoning some help since
that katana dude was giving me a serious headache in his second form.

I one shotted that boss as well on my first playthrough, .

What the hell. I haven't played this in a while and just started it up at the Whitechapel lantern and there seems to be different enemies than normal?!!!

If you go out front entrance where there is that one guy with the blue lantern hiding behind the carriage and then crows round the corner the crows are now gone but instead there is one of those creepy dudes with a bag and turns red and goes batshit insane and one shots me :O

What the hell has happened? Have I messed up somewhere?

I've heard hit him hard, hit him often, neither worked. I had him cornered and as I was just out of stam he jumped back (still within melee range) and he cast it. I had no room to outrange it.

Once he cast it before I even landed in the room. That was the breaking point for me.

I wrecked his ass during the second phase with my blade of mercy. He couldn't do shit.
I almost died a few times but I beat him on my first try :D

Can't remember exactly, but all you do is dodge toward him to be on his side opposite of the arm he attacks. I think he always starts with is right, so facing him, toward and right side. If not, do the reverse. Hit once, dodge out and repeat until dead. Without long range, that's going to be your strategy for many of the bosses coming up.

If you still need help, I can login with my lvl75.

Any reasoning behind why that happens? I have beaten him but haven't beaten V.A however I ventured into some really hard area and killed

Oh I don't mean out range it, I mean just back off slightly so you have a bit of space to move forward, and then forward step/roll through it.

But yeah, it's a really tedious move on a otherwise really easy fight. I had him try and do it before I jumped down on NG+, I jumped down to land on him though and that stopped the cast.

It just triggers when you beat BSB. I'm not sure the lore reasoning for it. It may just be because the boss you can get to in the area where the bag dudes send you opens up a door to Old Yharnam. So they felt BSB was a fitting place for them to start appearing.

There's a few other bosses which trigger changes in the world, but I'll let you find those. ^^

Anyway, just this morning i platined game and i want a little break from these kinds of games.

My humble suggestion for OT++++:

I was pretty frustrated the other day so I killed everyone in Oedon Chapel... they looked like they were dying anyway... did I fuck up?

Aside from being a heartless monster, I don't think it'll keep you from going further into the game or anything.

I did kill Priscilla and cut off her tail several times, so who am I to judge.

Only thing, apart from weapons (requirement, damage and scaling) I've looked up. Playing pretty much blind otherwise.

I never used suspend in my life, so I don't think so. He used his laser, jump, stomp etc I went for the tail after realizing it's a lot safer and he was even more of an joke afterwards. Had a huge amount of HP tho, so it took a while.

I killed Rom first try. Tonitrus is my 2nd weapon of choice I keep at hand when my Halberd doesn't deal normal damage. Worked fine so far. Movement set is garbage, so R1 spam is the only thing you can really do, but holy fuck, the damage is bonkers if you charge it up. Also drains very little stamina that way. Used it against
Logarius
as well, since it's much quicker so I could deal more damage before he dashed/jumped/flew away.

I faced
Watchdogs
already. Only chalice fight that I needed to try twice. I hope the variety of the dungeons improves. So far it's been pretty much the same rooms over and over and over again slightly differently placed, apart from that one layer with the bell maiden.

From Pthumeru to Hintertomb to Loran, they change not drastically but they change.

Something must be wrong with me I see a lot of people saying they had problem with

I got them first try but when it comes to

I must have tried like 20 times each and never managed to beat them.

WTF am I doing wrong ? And yes I watched some videos and tips

I dunno, the first few hours were among the best of the franchise, almost on if not on the same the level of Dark Souls / Demon Souls goodness.

I know what you mean, but I think that applies to all of the other Souls games too. I think they all tail off towards the end, and I put this down to familiarity with the techniques that the designers use to keep you on your toes.

Also, I can't say this for definite with Bloodborne as I'm nearly but not-quite-done yet, all of the Souls games become much easier and less intimidating by the time you reach the end. Again, this is partly due to the player getting wise to the techniques the game uses to thwart you, the player "gitting gud", and the player character becoming much more powerful.

My opinion on the game so far is that it is easily the best game I have played this year, and probably my second favourite Souls game. Dark Souls still reigns supreme for me. The NPCs in Bloodborne aren't particularly interesting, and although the world is consistent and feel more real than Dark Souls, it lacks the variety.

Combat-wise, Bloodborne is my favourite of the Souls games though. I love it. The health regain mechanic is genius and teaches you not to fear getting hit, which is the exact opposite of how to play Dark Souls. I also love the trick weapons and think I prefer them to having swathes of useless weapons clogging up my inventory.

Armour is a bit disappointing though. I haven't really needed to change from the hunter's garb much, except for specific boss fights, and there isn't a great deal of stat difference between the armour sets I have found so far.

Finally, the main thing which keeps Bloodborne below Dark Souls in my opinion is that there seems to be very little about the game which encourages me to play through it again any time soon. As fun as it is, and it really is, it is also just frustrating enough for me to want a little break from it once I'm done. It doesn't seem like a second play-through will show me anything new, and trying again with different weapons doesn't really offer a huge amount of variety. The Souls games each play very differently depending on your character build, whereas Bloodborne feels like it will be a very similar experience no matter what weapons I use. I understand why, and think the combat is much more exciting for this change, but role-playing suffers as a consequence.

I guess one way of looking at it is that Dark Souls emphasises the RPG elements, whereas Bloodborne emphasises the action aspect of the 'action-RPG' genre that the Souls games are often referred to as..

After finishing the Chalice dungeon line all the way to Q
ueen
boss, really think this is a good idea, but executed poorly. My main issue is how boring a lot of it is, due to all of the dungeons/layers generally being same. The loot just sucks. Some better gems for sure, but all the chests are nearly worthless with materials for future/other dungeons. It really should have given you better loot, like better gems or unique Runes.

The good thing for depth 4&5 is that Blood Echos you get per layer is huge. In depth 5 layer 2 for the main chalice, you can easily get 700k with all 3 Moon runes used. And that is like a 20 minute max run.

Also think bosses when defeated should have given you chests or more stuff then just, here's the next dungeon! Now go farm materials since we didn't give you any for it!

/rant - Luckily I'm done with the chalice dungeons for now.

1.Why when I fight

there's barely any damage?
2.Do I have to trudge through the

Please be vague.

G gave me a bit of trouble with my new pistol and whip (was cleaver and shotgun previously). I ended up beating him taking no damage on the 5th try, but it really is one of the hardest fights for me. I died at least 40 times on him in my first playthrough, likely much more.
