Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade pre-location test live stream

Just going off that Lightning vid, but it seems that this game has noticeably more movement options than the psp games.

  • Flying dash. Can fly dash in any horizontal direction, and change course easily mid flight, instead of a straight unchangeable dash toward your opponent like the older games. Is now governed by a stamina bar, in terms of total air time. In the older games, you could dash for a set distance (extra, some times double distance was possible with the yellow triangle QTE "momentum" exploits), but you could dash an unlimited amount of times.
  • Quick, short distance dashes. Both on the ground and in the air. Any horizontal direction. These don't use stamina. Not sure how that's gonna work in terms of balance.
I don't recall seeing any air dodges. You could chain those infinitely as well. I'd like to think that they'll be in the game, but hopefully have limitations (20% for a stationary air dodge, double for one going left or right, etc.)

It seems you can just power through a lot of basic lvl break magic attacks, whereas any little thing in the older games would stun you all the time. Lightning has more poise than a Havelmonster :)

There's also the block, which has completely changed, it's not a constant block, and you can still get knocked around while blocking it seems, though some attacks still break through guard (at least it seemed that way)

I didn't understand what they were saying, but what I made of it is that guard is broken if you keep it up for too long (or maybe there's a set amount of attacks it can block).

Crossing fingers for either The Navel or Howling Eye here

We are totally getting Coil or CT aren't we

Probably not CT or Coil. Well, CT might appear as the Final Fantasy III stage, where it would be more appropriate. However, the stages we have seen have included a lot of early game or iconic locations rather than the final dungeons used in the original Dissidia. Midgar, the plains surrounding Corneria, and Eden all represent a very different paradigm for the new Dissidia's field selection. They have also been more consistently outdoors stages.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to get the snowfields of Narshe as the Final Fantasy VI stage, for example. Maybe the Dalmasca Estersands as well.

If that is the case, perhaps the Final Fantasy XIV stage would be Mor Dhona?

The UI differences between versions of this game is much more stark than the graphics differences (hair count, AA, self-shadows, motion blur).

Why does the arcade version have such a clean minimalist Ex Vs. style UI while the PS4 is more stylized, yet super busy?

Hell, just from this, it seems like the only version we've seen until this trailer was the PS4 version.

Gameplay looks cool but I'm not digging the idea of only 1 hp attack. I wonder what this means for chain attacks as well since you'd have Bravery attacks that transitioned into HP like Cloud's FT and Omnislash V5.

I hope we don't lose some awesome looking attacks because of this.

Just got to watch the early parts of yesterday's livestream and now I understand the difference between Arcade version and PS4 version!

The screens saying 'Arcade' is not the actual arcade version at this moment. It was the early build using the typical arcade board. And during development they changed the board to PS4 core-system based board, and the screens saying "Playstation4" is actually the how the arcade version looks at the moment after changing the board.

So basically, the one saying 'Arcade' is an older build and the one saying "Playstation4' is the latest build that will be in the final version at the Arcade.

Can't wait to see some of the more imaginitive battlefields. I really want Square to go all out.

How amazing would it be for them to include Balamb Garden/Galbadia Garden from 8, or the Farplane from 10 for example?

There were several different types of dash options, including an omni-directional dash in the old games.

This makes a lot more sense.

Kinda makes me think if Sony did indeed step in to have Square put the game on a PS4 board (and later on a PS4).

If so, then good job Sony.

Yup it looked that way to me too, however I didn't see any sort of stun when the guard ran out (assuming it did)

I wonder if they'll have any sort of parry like the original games had to leave openings since (at least as far as I can see) you can no longer time guards

I'm going today after work.

Which thread to post in gaf? This one? A new one?

Anyway I'm also going to update on Twitter about it too.

Watches Trailer: "Oooo thats looks cool"
Watches Gameplay: "........"

Environments are bland as can be and that UI destroys any art direction they have.... hell the bars are bigger and more apparent than the actual enemies

Also why doe the PS4 verion look o different/better than the arcade...that comparison only makes the arcade version look crappy

Maybe you should actually research the game before asking questions that are answered in the first post.

The PS4 version IS the Arcade version. The 'arcade' version of the first trailer is a previous build of the game with a different PC set up. And the arcade version they are actually building the game on now is a customized PS4.

How can there even be a drastic "new" version wasnt this announced like 2 weeks ago?

Wherever should be fine.

I think a new thread would be good, specially if there's more than just one person testing it.

If you don't see any active Dissidia threads after you play, feel free to open one.

They should really remove Lightning from all the marketing material.

On the contrary, I can't wait to beat the shit out of Lightning with every other character.

Not feeling it, and I LOVED both Dissidia's. Animations feel off, UI is atrocius, camera placement is glued to the floor and in general it lacks a lot of "punch", and that's the weirdest thing coming from a Team Ninja game :/
