I guess I consider fanservice to be more risque or whatever than that, I dunno. If that counts, there's still very little in the game. That particular enemy only shows up a couple times.

The stuff in Demon Gaze is all treated like a joke though, right? At least that's the impression I got. That seems to always be the case anytime a dude shows skin in a game like this, it's for a laugh and/or to invoke some "look at this weirdo" reaction from the protagonist.
Again, I'll say the solution to this situation is not to sit by and do nothing, it's to speak up and urge companies to do something about it. I'm happy that western developers are being more progressive on this issue, it's time for other regions to step up too. We can resign ourselves to saying it's sad and unfortunate, but that's just the way it is, or we can keep pushing for change, and I'm choosing the latter.
I've always been more partial to eastern developed titles. I've supported them my whole life, but gamers like me are getting very little consideration, and that's not cool. I want to see games with Japanese styles and sensibilities being tailored towards myself and others that enjoy that type of content, and not just in the underground doujin market.
As for Tomodachi Life, Nintendo said that in future installments they would take more equal representation into consideration. Whether or not this is just something they said to save face remains to be seen, but I hope they were being earnest.
An Atlus game that has japanese audio? Odd. Hope this doesn't set a precedent.
I know what I said earlier, but you can't get more risque than that in the T department without flashing a nipple or two.
What do you do that you can play the Vita at work, that hiding the Vita at work is only needed for these type of games?
Yuck, more creepy otaku games. Atlus couldn't find anything better to localize?

I'd say a better way to go about it is to continue to express desire for change and support companies that actually make an effort to do so. And I think the most specific way to do this as a western consumer interested in eastern products is through the localization companies that deal with these niche developers. The thing is unless you are here directly and can actually effect their financials in a big way. With how Japanese companies are in general doubt will be seeing them move on the issue this is with the main companies who do not create visual novels and such.
Your best bet would be if you really wanted to attempt something is get together a bunch of hard information, numbers etc someone that can actually speak Japanese and contact one of the various companies who do make the BL type of visual novels and see about getting talks going with getting a game made that is actually written for the gay male fanbase. While this is a long shot, it would be your best bet if you truly want to get things started with changes happening within Japan.
The reason why I say contact a Japanese company that produces BL VN titles is so that it can be something which is designed also domestically by those who also understand the design tastes of the region therefore helping make a product that can sell within country to help prove your point that there is a market here within the gay male community. Since for example if one tried to market Coming out on top to Japan it would not go so well due to the art style being different from what is popular.
The above is a long shot and tons of work, but as mentioned would be your best bet if you wanted to go for something that is not just the dojin scene.
All of the other systems are cluttered with all the more mainstream types of games... can't one system cater to otaku?

I'll use an example. Recently XSEED went out of their way to talk to Acquire about adding male fanservice portraits to the recent game Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed, and to their (and my) surprise, Acquire was totally onboard with the idea and implemented it immediately. (Even including it in the Japanese re-release.) It turned that game from something I had almost zero interest in, to something that I bought day one and enjoyed very much. To be honest, it got me really fired up.
As an individual, I can't accomplish that much in this regard beyond expressing my own opinion and hopefully inspiring others to do the same. When people band together to convey the need for varied content, that's when real change can occur. A random Japanese developer isn't gonna take a plea from someone like me to heart most likely, but I do think they'd be willing to listen to their western partners if a desire is expressed on that level. (And it's up to gamers in those regions to express themselves too, since they are the most immediately affected by these decisions.)
Yuck, more creepy otaku games. Atlus couldn't find anything better to localize?
How come you can't recruit guys to fight with you?
Is there a story reason where the MC is only male left, etc...
You mean other than Etrian Mystery Dungeon, Lost Dimension, Devil Survivor 2, Persona 5, etc.? It's not like Atlus only localizes otaku games, it's quite the opposite actually.
Catering to otaku doesn't have to mean localizing lowest common denominator titles. I miss the days when it just meant RPGs.

Just because it has modern anime character designs doesn't mean its catering to the lowest common denominator. It seems like anything that doesn't have realistic or old school anime character designs are games not worth playing to many people here.
Hmmmm, reading some stuff here and it seems that the game is actually good? That's kinda surprising. I'm in I guess. Again, just as some reference, I didn't like Demon Gaze which is why I'm kinda wary of DRPGs coming out on Vita.
$$$$The majority(if not all) of their non-first party releases have been pretty bad as of late.
What were the issues you had with demon gaze exactly? Since based off of that can help see if this would be something for you to check out or not.
As with the fanservice aside, the game is quite well crafted with its mechanics and customization of your characters progression with skills for their classes. (Characters are pre-set though) So there is no building your own characters.
I wouldn't say that at all. The only recent game of theirs that has a lot of fanservice other than this is Conception II.
That doesn't bother me at all. But when you have to worry about a game's content being NSFW, that does. You can have anime character designs without the game being creepy. Look at Class of Heroes 2.
Soul Hackers can be anime as heck, but I don't recall scenes with Nemissa wearing underwear on her face.
I'm not talking about fanservice at all, just about their games being mediocre. When was the last non-Atlus game they localized that had people going 'wow, I was really looking forward to this!' and not 'it's Atlus, sold'?
The last one I can think of was probably The Dark Spire or Eternal Poison, excluding the Sting games, which were basically second party in my book.

Does every character change portraits depending on the job you select? Also, is anything permanent or can you change skill points/trees?

Yep they drew different outfits for every character in every class they can spec into.Does every character change portraits depending on the job you select? Also, is anything permanent or can you change skill points/trees?
Demon's Souls
lol
And Western games have tons of violence thats also NSFW, but I don't see anyone complaining about that.
I just think Japans modern culture clashes way too much with Western sensibilities. It doesn't mean its a bad game just because it doesn't appeal to what Westerners are interested in.
Well there is a difference to me between "modern anime characters" and half naked little girls. I'm not an expert on Japanese culture but I'm sure there are modern anime without that.
Atlus' localization choice outside of their own titles has been pretty awful lately. They are really scraping the bottom of the barrel with Conception 2, Tears to Tiara and this.

Yeah the character portraits change with the jobs for that particular class of the character.
You can respec but its broken up by specific level increments.
Example
You are lv 39 but the respec cap was lv 35 you will lose 4 levels, but can respec from there and change your job since the job change req was lv 35.
Finally a legit dungeon crawler. If I'm going to clean a dungeon out, I want some maids in my party.

So, basically, you don't care about the quality of the game but since it has things you don't like in it they're "scraping the bottom of the barrel".Well there is a difference to me between "modern anime characters" and half naked little girls. You can respec skill points by doing a disgaea style reincarnation but it's not something you want to do until around endgame or maybe very early on.

Have you even played Tears to Tiara 2 or are you just bashing it because of the character designs? Since its very tame fanservice wise, and is actually a very well written story of a war between nations with good strategy gameplay.

Are you complaining about the graphics in a tactical RPG? Speaking of scraping the bottom of the barrel...I think 'good' is a bit of an exaggeration here.
Passable, maybe.
These aren't exactly great games even without the fan service. That's all they have to get people's attention.
