The person being handed the saber in the trailer is most likely Leia and she looks to be in good health. She's wearing a wedding ring and doesn't look sick or injured.

The person handing Leia the saber seems to have orange skin and white markings on their face like this:

don't get my hopes up

she'd be a grandma at this point though

I think the orange is just the lighting and I don't see any facial markings.
It looks to me like Leia handing the saber to a young woman. The person handing the saber away looks old and there's a clear wedding ring on that hand.
The ring on the other hand looks decorative.

Edit: Re-Watched and maybe you're right, she does look very orange, and not as old as I remembered.

Also they're much smaller than the person being handed the saber, and the ring on the person handing the saber is on the index finger while the ring on the other person's hand is on the ring finger (ie wedding ring).

Am I wrong in thinking the majority of the Storm Troopers are now the protectors of the Republic (or whatever it's called now) and not Empire bad guys?

I'd say you're wrong. We've seen regular (Rebel) people in X-Wings, we've seen the usual Empire troops in the Tie Fighters battling the Millennium Falcon and we see the Storm Troopers hanging out with what I assume is a Sith. I doubt the Storm Troopers are good guys now.

I just expect Disney to be better than that is all. Seems I was mistaken.

Probably not gonna watch the movie if I hear its just him running around being the token 'scared black man' in the movie the whole time.

Wait what the fuck. Claiming that a movie is being racist for showing a guy, who happens to be black, scared twice is objectively more racist than the thing you're claiming is racist.

lol now that it looks good people are trying to take credit away from JJ, saying that the talent lies in Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm and that JJ is just the 'serviceable director' they're using to hold the wheel.

I'm ready for so much ridiculously hilarious bullshit. It's all part of the show.

I agree with you that you don't like J.J Abrams. Personally, I'm not a big fan either. That said, I disagree with the more objective, matter-of-fact conclusion that he's a hack. His body of work has been very well received.

This is a forum though, sir. People are allowed to call you on out on stuff. Especially when you shit up a hype thread by arguing that the critically acclaimed director is incompetent. That goes beyond, "I'm not a fan."

Uh, when did I say he's not competent? I'm not shitting up jack, I'm saying I don't like this director and are therefore apprehensive about getting too excited for his work. Obviously if I say he's a hack, that's just one man's opinion.

So the question becomes; who is Luke referring to? I assume it Leia's child, though I guess it could be his.

I am curious to see what, if anything, from the 25 years post ROTJ EU makes it in this movie. I'm hearing things of Rogue Squadron, so that's nice.

I will say that, though JJ may not have been the best fit for Star Trek, I think he can do Star Wars right.

I haven't followed anything in regarding this movie, so my speculations may be way off. I was a huge SW nerd for pretty much my entire life, but the prequels have me keeping my hype in check. I want to go into this with the lowest expectations as possible, but its really getting hard.

Also they're much smaller than the person being handed the saber, and the ring on the person handing the saber is on the index finger while the ring on the other person's hand is on the ring finger (ie wedding ring).
Yeah unless the voice over's lying (not unprecedented of course), that's Leia getting the saber. And some alien giving it to her.

Disney is not fucking around, though they did spend quite a bit for this franchise. Wasn't it billions, or close to? I hope the upcoming star wars video games are good.

Obviously if I say he's a hack, that's just one man's opinion.

It would be an incorrect usage of the term "hack," though. It doesn't mean "bad artist." It means artist who literally doesn't give a shit about the work he's doing. A hack is a pure mercenary, basically. He comes in, does the work, doesn't put any extra effort into that work, and cashes the check. That's a hack. Hackwork isn't bad. It's just plain and absent of any artistic integrity or aspiration.

Abrams obviously gives a shit, and is aspiring to a certain level of artistry. Whether he hits it or not is up to the viewer, but he's definitely not a hack.

I just got high quality screengrabs of every shot from the trailer from the 1080p Quicktime, I'll post a link and some shots once it's done uploading.

guek shitting on JJ while he ups Whedon in every thread makes me laugh.

You're a sad, petty person if you think I'm actually shitting on JJ here the same way you constantly shit up every other MCU thread you post in. I don't hang around Star Wars threads talking down to people like you and some others do with marvel stuff.

Honestly, I dont even like star wars at all.

But this teaser gave me goosebumps AND i teared up at the end scene. Just from what I have seen from the movies that I didnt even care about.

THAT is how you make a movie, when you can get people that arnt even interested in the material to care about it, you win and become a legend of film making.

There's nothing wrong with JJ's visual panache. His films always look superb but there are other more important aspects of his films which are sometimes just not very good, let's say.

-The cinematography looks great.
-Our (presumably) three new leads all look good, especially Daisy Ridley.
-Darth Vader's charred helmet, awesome. It's a cool way to "fit him into" these new films.
-Kylo Ren looking very Revan-esque.
-Chrome Trooper (presumably Gwendoline Christie) rocking the cape, awesome.
-Falcon dogfight, awesome.
-revamped Stormtroopers, cool.
-Han and Chewie, perfect way to end a teaser.
