When does this movie take place?

Good trailer. Loving how it looks visually, reminds me of the originals. See a lot of practical stuff in there.

Chewie, we're home.

Had the biggest smile on my face when he said that. That's the trailer/teaser I was wanting and needed. The crashed destroyer on the planet was a nice touch.

I'm honestly just hoping this film doesn't disappoint me on the Leia front. One of the things I LOVED about the expanded universe novels is that it had Leia learning the ways of the force under Luke and then eventually becoming very powerful along side him. I want that in the new films. Her already established as a Jedi along side Luke after all these years.

The person being handed the saber in the trailer is most likely Leia and she looks to be in good health. She's wearing a wedding ring and doesn't look sick or injured.

The person handing Leia the saber seems to have orange skin and white markings on their face like this:

Man, I'm going to be pissed if she's the only thing they bothered to save from the EU lol

I think the orange is just the lighting and I don't see any facial markings.
It looks to me like Leia handing the saber to a young woman. The person handing the saber away looks old and there's a clear wedding ring on that hand.
The ring on the other hand looks decorative.

Edit: Re-Watched and maybe you're right, she does look very orange, and not as old as I remembered.

It was their choice to make him look scared and seemingly useless in every scene we've seen of him thus far.

Nah,
It's your choice to make absolutely unsubstantiated claims because reasons. Some of you must get off on trying to make controversies about race when there are none to be found.

I just overheard a random guy I passed in the hall say, "The weight of the star destroyer should collapse the structure."

This fucking fad of "#plotholes" criticism needs to die.

So this is an XKCD comic from 2008.

Heh. Randall never seizes to amaze me. But I do think that the new droid is built a bit differently, because it's head moved about a lot. dunno, could be the same thing tho. I was thinking more in the lines of it stabilizing itself ;o

Super 8 was fantastic.

I was completely in love with Super 8 for the first half, but the last act in particular killed it for me.

I dunno, that shot of Darth Vader's mask all beat up and mangled and the star destroyer was pretty darn memorable

Yeah, the trailer shot in Star Trek of Kirk overlooking the construction of a starship in a crop field was too. And it wasn't a bad movie either; just fell quite a bit short of being great imo.

Ok. Someone doesn't like what you like and isn't trying to change your mind about anything. Maybe just accept that.

I agree with you that you don't like J.J Abrams. Personally, I'm not a big fan either. That said, I disagree with the more objective, matter-of-fact conclusion that he's a hack. His body of work has been very well received.

This is a forum though, sir. People are allowed to call you on out on stuff. Especially when you shit up a hype thread by arguing that the critically acclaimed director is incompetent. That goes beyond, "I'm not a fan."

lol now that it looks good people are trying to take credit away from JJ, saying that the talent lies in Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm and that JJ is just the 'serviceable director' they're using to hold the wheel.

Man.

They said they were gonna go easy on the CG.

But I saw Harrison Ford smile and there's no other practical way to do that

Your absolutely right that the handing the Lightsaber to Leah does have orange skin! If you freeze the frame closely her face ain't human either, kind of scary lol!

$4 Billion each

Pixar was $7 Billion

$4billion each? Sounds pretty low since they already got their money's worth with Marvel.

Am I wrong in thinking the majority of the Storm Troopers are now the protectors of the Republic (or whatever it's called now) and not Empire bad guys?

I think this has better chances since they have a competent writer (Lawrence Kasdan) instead of Orci.

This would be AMAZING!!!!!!

Actually I think the Clone Wars series overall is in canon. That (not the shorts) was kept last time I looked at the list I think. Though if that is the case I would expect Rebels to cover what happen to her and she'd be very old by the time of Force Awakens if she was alive.

I can feel the typical Abrams' fanservice. "Yo did you notice that ship in the desert??? Right???? Yeah!!". But what I saw is till good. No seriously, I want this to be original, not a celebration.

Lucas took a 30 year break between trilogies and lost all his talent.

At the bare minimum this will be a serviceable movie, unlike the dried up turds we got with the prequels. They were written and directed without any passion, the new films will be vastly different when it comes to the quality of acting alone.

Yeah, if anything, Abrams makes competent films. I don't doubt this will be reviewed well and that it'll make bank, I just doubt whether or not I'll end up liking it as much as I want to. Like, how much of this movie is really going to be a throwback? Super 8 was half a good movie, half a snoozefest, and it felt like he tried his hardest to copy Spielberg without hitting the right notes at the right time. I felt like his Star Trek films used nostalgia in the worst way by taking large chunks of random stuff from the franchise and trying to have it hide the terrible plot, weak villains, and the complete shift in tone and philosophy from the source material. He's got a track record of letting me down so I'm pretty cautious with his films.

It's a trilogy, why not allow for character growth or even see the film before tossing "it's racist" into the mix.

What do you hope to accomplish here?

It took this long to make it a racial thing

And i'm out

I just expect Disney to be better than that is all. Seems I was mistaken.

Probably not gonna watch the movie if I hear its just him running around being the token 'scared black man' in the movie the whole time.
