Only thing I didn't like was that weird zoom in when the Falcon flies into the hull of the destroyer. Don't like that in movies, CGI or otherwise.

I also thought the Han reveal was kinda flat, but oh well, they had to do it.

So can someone explain why the Rebels are still fighting the Empire, I believe they were severely beaten on RoTJ, even with the leadership removed the Rebels got the better of their armies. But it seems the battle continues?
They are called the Galactic Empire for a reason. The Starr Wars galaxy is pretty big. Sure you may have killed the leader but there are other invested figures out there and a ton more troopers. I don't find it so hard to believe that the rest of the Empire didn't just surrender.

What I do find interesting is it appears Kylo Ren is partnered with the Empire. I'm not entirely sure why a "Sith" would care one way or the other, but we'll see.

Man, people at the celebration are so lucky, the trailer, the stars, costumes, that BB88 prop, WOW.

Fun fact: this too isn't CG. JJ Abrams leveraged Disney (and Apple's) enormous war chests to build a 1:1 scale Star Destroyer.

He threatened to walk in the middle of production if they denied him.

Right and I suppose he's also using Rambaldi artifacts to power the lightsabers.
Yes, I know you're joking. Right?

I don't buy it. You can see debris falling out with Luke, those shafts suck up everything.

Yes, debris falls in the scene where Luke catches the antenna, but it could be just random debris, not the arm.

In the old EU, the hand got stuck on some shaft and a maintenance droid picked it up (and later Vader got it, and gave it to the Emperor).

Pretty simple really.

So the Sith's saber really is an amateur design from a salvaged (Vader?) saber

And that's awesome

Vader's saber blew up with Death Star II...

If I was responsible for explaining this, I would suggest that there was an uneasy peace treaty brokered after a few more years of fighting post-ROTJ, dividing the galaxy into two states and some non-affiliated rim worlds. The new republic would be numerically superior but politically weaker because of its democratic structure. After a few decades of peace the hostilities have broken out again.

From the sound of it the First Order IS the New Republic, or some faction that the new republic doesn't oppose.

Just because Finn has the saber doesn't necessarily mean he's a force user to be...

I'm pretty sure all 3 protagonists will be force potentials

Top right corner. It doesn't look like it.

The hand looks somehow GCI'd too. Its a new char/race. Maybe Serkis char?
You suggesting top right is a big eye? Saw someone suggesting that, but if you look down you can see the nose, clearly the head facing down thus that's nut an eye. Actually could be the tentacle thing. Only thing making me skeptical about Asohka is age, but I'm not an expert in alien life expectancies.

If Luke's survived, maybe Vader's too.

However, the damage on the hilt makes me think he found the parts at some Order 66 battleground or a Sith armory

I love theories :D

I reckon Ren's saber is just cobbled together from parts and made to resemble Vader's.
Curiously, his mask resemble's Vader's mask a bit as well...

Huh. "Resistance" is basically a synonym for "rebellion" so... big change.

Rebellion is usually in reference to a Government or System.. while Resistance is usually a refusal to comply to something more specific.

So the events of ROTJ could topple the main body of The Empire, breaking the Government structure.. but with the Empire being as large as it is.. that leaves many potential fragments of forces that could still impose control over many areas of the Galaxy and/or vying for greater control. So the Rebels could potentially change their focus to helping planets resist the control of whatever's left of the Empire's forces. Or something like that.

That thing was in an older piece of leaked concept art.

The New Republic using stormtroopers and TIE Fighters? The Imperial Remnant now using X-Wings?

And I don't disagree with Finn. I'm just saying that that picture of him with the lightsaber isn't as revealing as it appears to be. We just know that at some point of the movie he'll have the Skywalker lightsaber, not how he came into it or how he plans to use it.

Well even before the EU was tossed it took quite a while to defeat the Empire completely. Coruscant wasn't taken back for a couple years. Even then the Empire existed as its own faction for the entire 25 years after ROTJ.

My guess is that after Palpatine and Vader are dead a lot of people are like, "Wow, we were fucking horrible, maybe we shouldn't do shit like wiping out entire planets" and the Empire just goes back to what it was. So instead of the Rebels just marching in and taking over the goals just change.

Or they might bring up the evil mind control thing. Basically Palpatine corrupted everyone and that was broken with his death.

One of the things that intreges me most from the teaser is the implication that Leia is a jedi. One of the things that irked me in the (now non-canon) extended universe was Leia being a shit-tier Force user because instead of training she spent all her time being a diplomat for the New Republic, and she barely kept her shit together in that job too.

It could go either way I guess, but my natural inclination when I read "The First Order" was that it sounded nefarious. Like a military order leading a breakaway imperial state. Or the first formal Sith Order, if they're done with this "always two there are" nonsense and are ready for incorporation.

Not a fan of "The Resistance" if it's just the Rebel Alliance re-named.
