Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Official Teaser Trailer #2

Probably the best lightsaber fight of the prequel trilogy.

That and the final minutes of Obi-Wan vs Darth Maul.

Maul one was pretty good. I liked the one with Dooku at the beginning of ep3. I think it's the best of all the prequel movies.

So because crazy people were talking about how the Original Trilogy hasn't aged that well I decided to pull out my DVD and watch "A New Hope" for the billionth time and may watch the rest of the trilogy this week. Of course, as I already knew, the movie is still fucking awesome. It fucking amazes me every time just how well done the Death Star Battle is, the shots, the effects, the music, everything is just perfect. And, I'll always love that trench run tracking shot, so genius.

I will take this time to point out MINOR problems I've always had with the movie:

-Ben Kenobi doesn't seem to care that much that Luke's Aunt and Uncle or were just brutally murdered, mostly because of him.
-Luke also doesn't seem to broken up about their murder, in fact he seems more upset about Ben's death, you know the guy he just met a few days ago, as opposed to the aunt and uncle who raised him since birth. In fact, he never mentions them again in the entire trilogy. I guess they must have really been dicks.
-The quickness of Ben telling Luke he needs to be a Jedi and the same quickness at which Luke accepts. Dude, you didn't even know what a Jedi was until 20 minutes ago when Ben gave you like a Cliffnotes version of the whole organization and The Force.
-The Force religion in general. Like, is it widely accepted or dying/suppressed due to the Empire? Luke didn't seem to know shit about it but when he joins up with the Rebel Alliance they are all like "May the Force be with you." How the hell do you guys know about The Force? Ya'll aint Jedis. In fact, that Grand Moff Tarkin tells Vader that "You, my friend, are all that's left of their religion." So how can the entire Rebel Alliance be going on about The Force when it's suggested the religion is pretty dead. This point carries over into the prequels as well no one really explains religion to the audience, to regular people "worship" The Force?
-The casualness at which C-3PO dumps those Jawa bodies into the fire. Yeah, he's a robot but it's mostly Ben Kenobi their standing to the side that probably told him to do it. Geez, show a little respect guys.
-The shitness of the Stormtrooper soldiers. And no, I'm not talking about their crap aim I mean that they obviously look like a bunch of extra given some prop weapons and told to act like soldiers or some shit. Now, just look at that recent trailer and you see how all those Stormtroopers and lined up and moving in-sync alongside using proper military tactics and maneuvers. OT Stormtrooper dudes just bumble around as if they aren't in an organized military.
-What the hell is a moisture farmer?! (Shhh don't tell me I'm sure Wookiepedia has an explanation but I don't want the mystery ruined).

-We don't how close he was to them. He didn't seem to have much contact.
-Fair enough. Although I think that their interactions/dialogue indicates that ANH wasn't the FIRST time that Luke and Obi Wan had met. It seemed pretty clear to me even as a kid that they'd met before and knew each other at least a little bit. They don't talk/act like people who are just meeting each other for the first time.
-The Rebellion is made up of many different people from many different races/cultures. It's not at all hard to believe that they'd know about the Jedi/Force, especially since they don't buy into Imperial propaganda. And of course the PT/TCW establish that some of them (Bail Organa, Adm. Ackbar, Mon Mothma, etc) were around during the Clone Wars/interacting with the Jedi.
-I didn't have a problem with that. It's preferable to just leaving them to rot/get eaten by animals.
-Fair enough. But to be fair, the OT Stormies were just garden variety conscripts/volunteers, whereas we don't know the context for TFA ones yet. But yes, the Stormtroopers (that name usually tends to imply ELITE soldiers) were comically inept at lot of the time. It's why I stick up for Rebels whenever people complain about the "idiot Stormtroopers" in that show. They were ALWAYS incompetent.

To get away from the prequel discussion, I wonder what everyone's thoughts are on Kylo Ren. My immediate thought is... well, Luke says "you have that power too" and I think it's referring to Rey, which is very similar to Ren. This makes me wonder if they're brother and sister, and Kylo is just a call name that "Ren" came up with. It doesn't seem like Luke had any children so I'm guessing Rey is Han and Leia's daughter, which explains why she has Force powers-- again, if that's who Luke is talking to.

So is Kylo Ren and Rey the children of Han and Leia? Not asking for an answer, just a question of speculation. I'm sure people know this and I don't really want to know, at least not yet. If official material answers this before December, that's fine, but right now it's obviously being kept a secret. Just wondering what others think based on the scant information.

The new cast doesn't know how to handle that shit. Mild spoiler:
And I've read that Luke actually doesn't feature in this movie much at all.
I'd actually be interested in this approach. Kinda similar to 4 and 5 where lightsabers were used very sparingly. Makes the moments all the more sweeter.
While I love this style, does it fit in the universe?

I doubt we are going to see any elongated long take action scenes with the shaky cam, nor do we need to really.
I was more talking about how the characters themselves fight, rather than stylistically speaking. In fact, thing back JJ's Trek movies, I'm expecting them to be half-lightsabers, half mano-amano pub brawling for melee fights.

Should preface this by saying I know jack shit so I am just speculating.

I mean it would fit with the idea that there are no coincidences really in the SW universe and its a fun llittle play on the names, Luke Leia, Ren Rey. We have already seen pics that very clearly show how similar Rey looks to Luke aswell so maybe there is something there.

I think its too early to tell at this point how integral Kylo will be to the overall trilogy which we have to think about in the widest context. All we know is that Poe, Finn and Rey are the 3 main characters so its safe to assume that for a few movies they will all be around, other than that its hard to say.

I really hope we get a lightsaber version of this.

I mean, I'm not expecting The Raid levels of choreograhpy, just variations of other fighting techniques is what I'm saying with the gif. Not just sabers going all out.

Back then the comparable fight scenes were probably Croaching Tiger Hidden a Dragon, but those fight scenes didn't translate well to a Star Wars universe. Plus the actors and the choreography are a level below this

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DFH6lXJ6c4k
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_MbsHGABzw4

Light sabres are more lethal but has no weight, that's a pretty specific combination.

I still want some awesome, energetic lightsaber duels like in the prequels, but I think the prequels got that huge desire out of my system so I think it would be nice if it were toned down. I mean, like I said I still love to see that stuff, but compared to the prequels it could still be toned down yet still exciting. Maybe a mix of the original approach and the prequel approach. A happy medium must exist somewhere that would make everyone happy.

I'm also willing to bet that Kylo has a very sloppy fighting style since he doesn't seem to be a fully trained Sith, which goes along with how his saber beam appears clumsy, like someone that knows how to make a lightsaber but the execution is poor because they're meddling in things that they don't completely understand. Kind of like Elsa picking the most glorious looking fake cup of Christ in The Last Crusade because it's pretty.

I don't see any reason to relate Rey and Kylo to be honest. The callsign speculation seems odd to me as well. I don't think it's that much of a stretch for a third party force user to enter the picture. It's possible though that one is the offspring of Luke and the other Leia. Honestly the possibilities are pretty wide open.

His hilt looks very patched together too given what they showed at the exhibit, its absolutely not a clean design, which did make me wonder whether he was a true sith or not or perhaps some kind of very attuned soldier.

Its more likely that he is attuned to the force but lives in a world where getting those parts is just a hard business.

Just speculating, which is all I can do. Maybe they're not related, just questioning the similarity between Rey and Ren.

A part of me doesnt believe that Daisy is "Just" a scavenger

Its too simple

First time vs last name.

We have no idea if Reys is first or last, or Finns

Poe is the only character we have a first and last name for, I imagine there is a reason we dont know and that reason its spoilerific.

Also, part of me is secretly wishing that JJ got the Raid guys - with all their great ass choreography and all - just to do this kind of scene again with Ford.

Good point. Why not just tell us if it's not something plot related? I would also say that it's within Star Wars tradition for the main character and villain to be related. What I love about the new films is that it's still closely related to the Skywalkers, so this does make me wonder if this will boil down to another family crisis.

The lightsabers were actually supposed to be very heavy in the OT. Normal users were supposed to only wield them with two hands.

At the start of his fight with Luke in ESB, Vader only uses one hand, implying "I don't even need my full power to defeat you noob". At the end of the fight when he finally puts both his hands on his saber, it basically meant that shit was getting real and that Luke was fucked.

Rey Ren? No, that isn't the case.

Kylo Rey? We know that isn't the case.

Potential pseudonym at play? Maybe and if so we aren't going to solve anything.

All I am sayiing is that main characters in the star wars universe generally tend to share a connection, there is established principle that through Luke and Leia we have sibling connections that share similar names. Its all speculation and loose threads, could be nothing, could be something, worth a thought not a commitment.

Its also possible that Kylos name is not actually Kylo Ren and Reys name is not actually Rey, if she is a scavenger and alone she may have no idea what her real name is or who here real family is. If we follow that line of thinking that she is not aware of her true lineage and lives on a desert planet and is integral to the story then she shares some common traits with luke, who she already resembles as someone showed in a side to side pic of them both holding the same pose.

Basically I am reaching for straws BUT doing so in a Universe that does have precedent to link characters and families, I would be much more surprised if these 3 main characters were not linked beyond the superficial than if they were.

I still don't get the logic as to how human troops are superior to droids. The ones in TPM seemed more or less comparable to the OT troops, and you don't have to feed or pay them.

I've been watching a bunch of The Clone Wars CGI series and while the battle scenes are fantastic (especially for TV) it does bother me how pants-on-head stupid the battle droids are. It's like something out of Kung-Pow.

"Pay no attention to the battle droids, we purposely programmed them wrong

as a joke."

I love the story behind that scene.

It's kind of hilarious, but also kind of sad, that that guy spent months learning sword-fighting technique in preparation for a big fight. And then they came to him at the last minute and said "umm Harrison isn't feeling well, so we're just going to have him shoot you instead." I feel bad for the guy, but the scene itself is brilliant.

If he has any sense, although I feel his pain, being part of one of the most iconic parts of a legendary franchise trumps having a fight that may or may not have been forgotten in the wider context, but certainly wont be as legendary.

I want a lightsaber battle on a par with this

Shit is dope and way better than anything in the PT. No cutaways to some other shit going on somewhere else, no stupid dancing. Force powers, dramatic tension, awesome climax.

Lucasfilm just announced the new teaser was watched 88 million times in the first 24 hours. A new record for a teaser/trailer.

Seen this before, he looks legit pissed when he says that. What's it about?
One of Conan's producers, Jordan Schlanksy, who is constantly mocked jokingly because of his awkwardness asked him about some minute and obscure detail about Indy's whip and Harrison responded thusly.

Simply awesome! All the nostalgia buttons were fired. I look forward to the new cast and what they may bring to the Solo/ Skywalker legacy.

I think Episode 1 is the best of the three prequels. It gave us the best 3 things that came from the prequel experience:

1. Duel of the Fates theme
2. Qui Gon & Obi Wan vs Darth Maul fight
3. Weird Al's Star Wars song

Episode 1's plot is paced decently with clear rising action, climax, denouement, and works as a stand-alone story.
I used to think Episode 3 was better for a while, but Anakin's nonsensical & sudden jump into evil mode just ruins the whole thing.
And let's just agree to ignore Episode 2.

It's also the only one with Qui-gon, the only Jedi in the prequels who wasn't a creepy nerd.

The one thing you love more than Alien

Nothing is better than Alien

I tried making a reaction video but I had already seen the trailer and tried to recreate my original excitement and it came across fake, then I tried copying my genuine reaction and it looked vaguely stupid because I had kept watching the trailer and recording it.

It was a mess, its a silly thing to do a reaction trailer in hindsight, I will learn for next time.

why would luke have a creepy robot hand?
Oh wow. It's all part of what is arguably the most well known scene in all of Star Wars. Luke is fighting Vader, and Vader lightsabers his hand off right before getting Luke to realize he's his father. Luke then drops off the bridge thingy and out the exhaust shoot where he's picked up by Leia and co. Cut to scene of him in the 'sick bay' testing out his new cybernetic hand. Pretty sure it basically then rolls credits for Empire.

It's funny how memory works. It seems most people just remember 'Luke, I am your father' which isn't even the right quote to begin with lol.

But why's it melted doe.
The did the Jedi ritual of a funeral pyre for Anakin / Vader. I believe his mask was placed in it as well?

It makes absolutely no sense for Rey to be Leia's kid. What, Leia just lost her baby like a set of speeder keys, then went "Welp..."?
Luke, OTOH, could have knocked a chick up and not even known about it.

Potato quality teaser for the rogue one movie, over in the other thread if you guys are interested

Seemed ok, wouldnt say it has me hyped at all personally

Would need to see more

If she's the leader of the Resistance, maybe she wanted her daughter to live a peaceful life away from all the fighting or something. I don't know.
