The Witcher 3 runs at 1080p ULTRA ~60 fps on a 980

as someone who has g-sync, it's hard for me to participate in FPS conversations. My 970 and i7-4790k will do ultra at probably 45-50 fps... but it will look like 60 fps. the only time i can tell the difference between frames now is if i go back to my ps4.

I need Gsync!

You think the wife would believe me if I say that the knife sticking out fo the monitor was put there by our 15th month old?

Yeah right around there. @Syntsui Keep in mind that is a near top-of-the-line system, and you can run this game at high settings for far, far less money. For a full build from scratch (not including monitor or KBAM), you'll looking at around $1400-1500, depending on your choice of Mobo/power supply/case.

I thinnk he can pull off a current gen i7 + GTX 980 for $1200 if he shops around say newegg, amazon and his local Frys or Microcenter.

Still that's not really super cost effective.

I'd rather go for a 970 + last gen i7 instead, or current gen i5. More bang for your buck.

I know this is a bit off topic, but I've always maintained I can't tell the difference between 60fps and 30fps.
A few days ago I was streaming a game (Steam in home streaming) to my TV at 60fps when I decided I wanted to play some Lords of the Fallen on my PS4. For a few seconds after getting into LotF it felt a bit stuttery and not smooth. I think.....I think I can tell the difference.

Back on topic, I bet my friend lunch that my i5-4670k@4.4ghz, R9 290, and 8gb RAM, will be able to average Witcher 3 above 50fps on ultra at 1080p.

I'm going to be buying him lunch, aren't I?

woah, even on PC?

i find sub 60fps very noticeable on PC, but i suppose everyone's mmv.

fingers crossed the 980ti comes out as soon as expected, as my 1440p [sans g-sync] monitor am cry... :|

a 4690k and a 970 combo with 8gb ram but without an hdd costs around 1100 here in canada. that's without shipping.

i think you better start asking your buddy where he wants to eat, if it was a 290X I think you would be ok but a 290 is most likely not going to be enough for Ultra and 50+fps

I find the difference easy to spot, but usually I can be comfortable with 30-40fps with most games.

Too bad I live in Brazil, to pull that off I would spend around (after conversion) US$2,500. That way above my reality for a hobby ):

Well 1100 Canadian, right? That sounds about... not still way too expensive, what the heck, are you guys importing GPU's from Australia or something?

I hope AMD get around to releasing a crossfire profile for it before launch for my R9 290s and 4k monitor.

I was so happy they did it for GTAV. I was honestly thinking I'd have to wait a few weeks for it after launch.

It seems as though Canadian retailers are going for extra, extra profit on top of the currency exchange rates. Or maybe it just costs them more now to import parts than it used to a few years back when we had currency parity. I honestly don't know what's going on.

So when will we come to the point where having a i5 or an i7 will make a difference?

Apparently when Dx12 releases and some games start taking advantage of it.

Twould be nice if TW3 Enhanced Edition added support.

ultra settings too right?
While the PS4 is capable of amazing looking games, expecting maxed out settings on modern graphically demanding games is foolish. One or two settings may be at ultra in a few of those games, but we'll mostly be seeing a mix of mostly high and occasionally medium.

Is this surprising? I imagine it would run at ultra at 1440p ultra on a 980 or 290x.

Yes. Game uses a lot of extremely demanding tequniques, and it is a no load screen open world. Ultra settings at 60 FPS on a single card was unheard of for the TW2 at launch if I recall. And TW3 is a much more technologically advanced game for its time than TW2 was.

So when will we come to the point where having a i5 or an i7 will make a difference?

Significant diffrence? Probably never - those HT threads are still sharing hardware resources.
Small increases ? Probably as soon as we start getting proper DX12 games.

The early DX12 tests showed no/little scaling on HT threads only on numbers of cores.

I think it's at 4.2. She's on her last legs, she treated me kindly the past 4 years. Skylake can't come soon enough. Where's the cheapest place to purchase this game? Thanks.

have you checked the b/s/t thread? The game is getting packed in with 900series nvidia cards, there maybe people selling the code if they already have the game preordered elsewhere or are uninterested (theres always a few of those crazies :P)

Oh yeah I forgot! I think they offered this 3 weeks after I got my card. They wont give me the offer right?

Last legs? You do realize that you can OC this CPU to 4.6Ghz on air cooling alone? If anything, you haven't been using it to its full potential all this time!

Cross posting for relivance. This confirms earlier claims. But it also makes me think Ultra has absolutely no chance of looking like the Nvidia trailer and VGX trailer.

Not sure if posted already but Gamestar has released a new preview today. They are saying they played the full version as the first media outlet world wide.
They also confirmed again that the game ran at Ultra/60 fps + Hairworks on a Intel i7-4790, 16 GB RAM and a 980.

Hell yes.

My second 970 FTW Edition is on the way.

i7 3770k
SLI 970 FTW
16GB Ram

I should be in good shape. I would really love to hit 4K at 30fps, but I guess we will see. 1440p should be doable at least.

What do you guys think I can expect from i5-3470, 8GB RAM and 660Ti 2GB at 1600x900? Medium details@30fps will be possible?

We know next to nothing about how the game runs on what settings. It's almost useless to ask those sorts of questions pre-release.

I have a 760 2GB and i5-3570k at stock with 8GB of RAM (gonna be running it at 1080p). THEORETICALLY, (since obviously no one knows for sure yet) should I get it on PC or PS4?

If thats the case, then I think my 4790, 32GB of ram and 2 980's are sufficient to get me 60 fps at 1440p.

Soooooo ready for this game.

I think I should be good with an i7-4790s, GTX 970, and 12 GB of RAM. I only plan on running it at 1080p. I hope I can set most of the IQ options to maximum and keep it near 60 fps, though I'm expecting more like 45 fps.

You're either underestimating his pc or overestimating the ps4.

My pc with a 2gb 670 and 4670k (which is only slightly better than a 760) usually does twice what a ps4 can do. Probably because the cpu in the ps4 is really shitty.

I don't see why the Witcher 3 would be any different. On comparable settings I expect a 760 to do 60fps versus the ps4's 30.

New screens:

New screens that may be on Ultra?

The bottom screen looks fantastic, the way the light is interacting with the foliage looks the same as the "Volume Based Translucency" from the Nvidia Tech Demo.

This gives me hope that the game will look close to this trailer and the VGX trailer on Ultra. Small hope, but hope none the less.

That and the fact that I thought Hairworks was downgraded too until I saw this..

This running at 60fps at 1080p or 30fps in 4K could be a real treat.

Sorry, i know this really isn't the place to ask this but, does anyone know when/if we'll be able to pre-load the GOG copy. ?

I would be interested to know as well. I think I've bought a couple games from GoG before, but they have always been Steamworks titles I believe that I just activated the key on Steam if I recall.

Does GoG have a client or do you just redeem the code on the site? Also is the code linked to your account or can you gift it before redeeming?
