Avengers: Age of Ultron |OT| If you open this thread, you're an Avenger

The first Avengers kind of does this too. Iron Man 2 ends with Stark being assigned as a consultant for the Avengers than an actual member, and Thor ends with the Bifrost destroyed and him being stick in Asgard, cut off from Earth. Then both of these things are immediately handwaved in the movie to have them on the team.

That Thor subplot was explained in Avengers prequel comic at least. AoU prequel comic only covers
the twins and scepter
.
Everything else seems like they came out of nowhere.

I have seen a lot of MCU film rankings in here, but where would you guys put the various MCU tv seasons we have got so far? Mine would be:

Guardians of the Galaxy
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Avengers
Iron Man
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Iron Man 3
Thor
Iron Man 2
Thor: The Dark World
The Incredible Hulk

please for the love of god dont let this thread devolve into tiered lists of MCU productions again. Last time that happened it was 3 pages of lists that no one reads and no one explains. It doesn't add anything to the conversation.

This movie has a lot of really long action sequences that are all pretty much the same.

I think I've reached the end of my tolerance for the MCU formula.

Same here. My excitement for these movies has seriously deteriorated over the last two years. X-men: DoFP and CA: The Winter Soldier are the only two recent ones that resonate well with me, but they are the exception to the rule. I'm more excited for the resurgence of Star Wars. Now THAT is something I can't wait for.

I was just saying that when I came out of the cinema. Star Wars promises to be different in tone, action, characters and structure.

Disney are smart.

Chill dude.

Once the US gets the movie this thread will blow up with impressions.

You can explain any amount of plot holes in side comics or one shots or whatever, it still leaves gaps in the movies themselves.

As for the bolded, I really think people are setting themselves up for disappointment if they think Agents of SHIELD is ever, in any way, going to be felt in the movies. The show has too small of an audience to ever matter to or affect the movie side of things. That's why Whedon said he's treating it as if Coulson is dead -- because as far the people who just see the movies are concerned, he still is.

At this point, the Avengers would know that Coulson is alive. They would have to since the government knows and is actively pursuing him, but you're right, it won't ever be mentioned in the movies.

Has anyone else read the review on comicbookmovie? Warning: some minor spoilers are peppered throughout (but nothing we haven't seen in the ads). Don't frequent the site too often, but I've always liked them for their news (and comments, sometimes), and I've never bothered with their reviews as much. This one caught my eye because of the callout "Good luck topping this WB!"

However... This is the most juvenile, simple-minded review I have ever read. So casual, and so basic, I'm almost convinced they haven't even watched it. "It's full of plenty of funny moments throughout" and "the mid-credits scene is also pretty cool" is the type of language that's stuck at a high school level. I'm not asking the guy to mystify and over-flower his syntax and word usage, but c'mon... It's unsophisticated, uses adolescent phraseology, and goes to show the mindset of the general audience, "Explosions! It's funny! If you like comics, you'll lovvvve this."

I'm a lover of cinema; so please instill some confidence for the 40 bucks I've spent to watch it this weekend.

Edit: IF he really is a high-schooler, then I'm sorry.

I think I found your problem :P

Help me out people (at work so i cant investigate any further)

Gonna watch Avengers 1 tonight with wife (she never saw any Phase 1 movie) what can i tell her to make her like the movie(like the back story of phase 1 for example)(? (she kinda liked Guardians and most times hates marvel movies )

I don't think you can make her like the film. Show her a trailer for the first film, see how she likes it.

Just tell her which avenger is who and what their powers are that's it
Also that loki is thor's evil half brother

RT keeps dropping :-(

Man, I hope I actually like this movie

I feel like they might have to change the Critical Consensus much like they did with Pacific Rim when it started on high but gradually dropped significantly.

Probably gonna settle as an above average entry.

I love Joss and what he did with the first one. I think he might have spent a little too much time cutting this one up

Also he doesn't seem like the kind of director that is a true believer in what the MCU is trying to be. He has stated in the interview his struggles to both make the Movie a decent standalone while also connecting the tissues in compelling ways

Not sure he accomplished either and Im no entirely sure if its doable at all. You eventually end up with so may characters and so little time to devote to them all.

Winter Soldier benefitted alot from its focus and the MCU setup WAS the core story. Maybe thats where the scripts are going wrong. Instead of trying to shoehorn a way to make the connected universe stuff fit while juggling an independent story... EMBRACE the shared Universe and make the story flow with the MCU.

I already lowered my expectations, just because.

I just pray that I'm with a good crowd.

Even if the film disappoints, if I have a good crowd, it'd make it a LOT more bearable.

With Fast 5 and Six it was fucking INCREDIBLE and everyone was into it.

No such thing with Furious 7. God that was fucking disappointing.

The Avengers 1 midnight crowd was a sight to behold. Favorite moviegoing experience of my life, hope this one is the same

Weird to see the RT drop so low, but I rarely let that determine a movie's quality for me. My hype levels are in check though.

Just a quick question, I'm trying to read as little as possible so don't hate me if everyone already asked :P
I'm going to see the movie tonight, should I watch Agents of SHIELD's episode 19 before or after the movie? Thanks!

74%...

I just feel like Marvel movies are usually pretty high in the rankings, especially with Avengers (which I thought was something like 95% approved by critics when it dropped).

Iron Man - 93%
Iron Man 2 - 73%
Iron Man 3 - 79%

Thor - 77%
Thor 2 - 66%

Cap - 79%
Cap 2 - 89%

Avengers - 92%
Age of Ultron - 74%

GOTG - 91%

My only silver lining is that when fans like it, they seem to really like it. My biggest fear is that this is another Man of Steel scenario where the movie is frequently cited as mediocre to terrible but a few diehards can't see past how much they enjoy the action.

That score is totally based on people having sky-high expectations. The movie isn't as good as the last few Marvel releases (WS, GotG), but it's far better than pretty much everything else.

*edit*
I'm no die hard. I don't know the comics, but I frequently enjoy the movies/TV shows Marvel puts out. They've released plenty of mediocre shit. This isn't one of them. It's just not their best.

Ah, so that's why people like Man of Steel. Okay...

Most commonly, yes, the action is cited as the best part.
I was being kind of sarcastic sorry. Don't get the hate for the movie, thought it was mostly enjoyable. Certainly not close to terrible

But anyway still hyped for this. I've seen movies with high RTs that I disliked and poor scores that I enjoyed.

Nothing wrong with liking it but the reception was definitely mixed at best. AoU has thankfully been received at least a little better, at least so far...

Maybe this movie RT score will drop to 65%, causing Disney to rushed out the extended cut bluray release (I can hope).
I wonder if it's possible to influence execs with a twitter campaign to have an extended cut theatrical rereleased in the fall. 99.9% sure it wouldn't but a man can dream, can't he?
