Haha I noticed a little bit of flashback hate from some people during the episode. I think Arrow has warped peoples minds when it comes to flashbacks. When used sparingly like they have been on the flash I think they can work. I will say it's kind of funny that part of the point of the flashbacks this time was to establish the shock that would ultimately clue Iris in on the fact that Barry is the flash.
It absolutely was. The Reverse Flash is a much better name I feel. Also Tom Cavanagh has absolutely killed it this season. If they ever do Reverse Flash in the movies I think it'll be hard to top what Cavanagh has done.

Went back to the future? Barry's connected to the Speed Force, while I don't think Thawne is. Barry wouldn't lose his speed like Thawne. He should be able to time travel unaided.

In the comics he could, but didn't because the timeline attempts to correct, and corrections can be worse than the original. Remember the time travel episode?
