PS4 reaches 2m sales in the UK

I'm amazed that the general idiocy of my people hasn't swung things in the XO's favour now they've slashed their prices so heavily (not a dig at the Xbox, more the fickle nature of the British public, and their preference for low prices over any other consideration).

Speaks volumes for just how badly MS fluffed the launch, and how much hype the PS4 has generated.

Because the UK market is not about lowest price but most value for money. And the mass market perceives that to be PS4

Around 1.5 or 1.6 million.
PS4 - XBO ratio: ~1.5 : 1

Yeah, I just meant the absolute upper limit based on the numerical sales gap when we got that 1.5 ratio. We don't currently know the ratio, only that Ps4 has consistently outsold XB1. But we don't actually know by how much. So therfore we can only assume the gap is at least as large as it was then.

Edit: unless I've missed a more recent ratio update

Around 1.5 or 1.6 million.
PS4 - XBO ratio should still be around : ~1.5:1 or 1.6:1 imo
Sounds more like the ratio is around 1.3-1.4:1 if the PS4 has now sold 2 million while the XO is somewhat over 1.5 million (considering PS4+XO was 3.5 million end of Feb)

ps3ud0 8)

i actually have friends to play with online now that they've ditched xbox and came to playstation. i was the odd one out with a ps3. now i don't know anyone who owns an xbox one.

long may it continue!

That was what I was saying. I'm surprised that enough people are aware of the differences to still be perceiving the PS4 as better value for money, in spite of the price cut making the XO cheaper.

Hm, not really. We only had the following informations:
End of february: "...the two platforms have sold almost 3.5m units in the UK"
I guess he was referring to this: 3.3 million combined (end of january)
And we know the PS4 is selling faster/better than the XBO.

So yeah, my guess is 1.5 or max.1.6 million for the XBO.
Over 2 million PS4 today.

Ratio: 1.5:1 or 1.4:1 in favour of the PS4.

You're too late. Already edited my post :P
I meant ~1.5:1 or 1.4:1 of course.

This is pretty incredible, espcially looking at the way the previous generation unfolded in this market.
2 million in 18 months is serious business, I doubt even the most optimistic at sony were expecting to outperform the PS2.

Both ratios put XB1 under 1.5 million which is not possible. It should be around 1.2:1, 1.3:1 at worst.

Your math is still off. :P

2/1.5 = 1.33 or 2/1.6 = 1.25.

Yea I was expecting MS' aggressiveness to have a longer lasting effect but it seems they still see the PS4 as the better system, hence more sales.

Good thing IMO.

Sold the 2nd million faster than the first. Surprising. Article also confirms Ps4 is the top selling console for 2015 so far. Hopefully the nebulous we're not sure which is selling the most argument in PAL threads can end for a few weeks.

I don't think it's really surprising. It was fairly supply constrained for a few months after launch.

So if we can estimate thatXB1 sales in UK are ~1.6 million and combine that with the sales estimates in U.S. From NPD totals then that should give us a good idea of what XB1 US+UK vs ROTW sales ratio is. Zhuge would you be so kind as to supply the U.S. Sales for XB1 and the most up to date estimates for worldwide sales?

Your maths is off quite a bit.

ZhugeEX, can you do an estimate ratio between "US+UK vs the rest of the world". Can it be that those two markets hold 75-80% of entire xbone install base, or is that too high of a number?

Look at how many people ask the counsel from Zhuge.

Deserved. I expect XB1 to be around 1.4 - 1.5m.

Anecdotally speaking I'd be very surprised if the Xbone has sold that number of units in the UK.

It feels to me like the number of people who I know that are talking about the PS4 compared to the Xbone is 10 to 1 with no one talking about MS exclusives like Titanfall etc.

I'm at work right now so can't say much. I'll have a look at this a bit later this evening.

Basically US & UK sales > RotW sales when it comes to X1.

The 3.5m at the end of Feb means that XB1 must be over 1.5m as a minimum. That means a ~1.3:1 ratio at best.

Like I said the upper limit is ~1.7m as the previous numerical gap was ~300k when we last received a ratio and PS4 has outsold XB1 since then but by how much we just don't know. Could be 100k, could be just 100. Ratio must therfore fall between ~1.3:1 and ~1.17:1

Well yes that much is obvious but it's be nice to have a ratio estimate. I'd imagine it's something like 3:1. If we can get a worldwide sales estimate and a U.S. Sales estimate that would give us the information needed to calculate a reasonable estimate on US+UK:ROTW

Hmm...will be interesting to see what the landscape looks like after the big games release and possibly price-cuts.

Close in UK/US with shipments but what is the actual vibe in UK as far as gaming, as in what is in people's homes? From small anecdotal stories, it seems Xbox brand might have been hurt there a little as well.

I think by mid-gen, U.S will be the only real market for Xbox.
