Assassins' Creed Shadows reaches 5 million players

Now question is, if mirage had same amount of players in same amout of time, and had estimated 250m usd revenue(not profit, revenue), AC:S has probably somewhat similar one too, maybe even worse since more ppl use subs nowadays than 1,5 year ago so compared to AC:M from the same amount of 5m players we get less sold copies/more subs(and ofc 1sub is worth way less than sold copy).

But lets be generous and assume AC:S made that 250m usd revenue by now, how does it look vs game's budget? How expensive is mainline AC entry in 2025? 2x as much as mirage, maybe 3x? Which means game is definitively in the red, aka big flop, even after full 4 months of sales.

One thing you are forgetting is that Mirage had a $50 RRP while Shadows was $70.

Interesting that I learnt from this thread and going to review Ubisoft + that in the uk if you subscribe to Ubisoft+ you can change your mind/cancel within 14 days and when you do it the cancellation will be immediate and you will be refunded depending on the amount of time remaining on the months subscription. So £14.99 a month.
Join, download, play..
How long to complete has the main story as 34 hours
So let's be slow and say you wanted it done and dusted and put in 4-5 hours a day, so you have the game done and dusted in the first 7 days
So you cancel your subscription and get 3/4 weeks refund
Total cost to play assassins creed shadows? £3.75

and despite now learning that, I have zero desire to even pay that £3.75 because of the choices made in the development of this trash. Assassins creed japan could have been absolutely amazing, but they CHOSE to desecrate Japanese culture by forcing dei and complete nonsense into it, even the female protagonist is a lesbian, right? It's certainly made sure I voted with my wallet on this one, at best I might dirty my hard drive with it if Amazon or epic ever give it away, but it's not a small game so probably not even then

5 million players my ass when the game is on ubisoft + which is like what ? 10$ a month or something ?

when a company doesn't provide how many copies they actually sold, it means they sold way less and trying to spin shit up. The whole point of this tweet is a marketing revival that hey guys our game exist come see how awesome this game is. because up to me seeing this, I forgot the game even existed.
Pretty much reflected that when you look at the Steam CCU. Shadow's weekend-to-weekend retention was very poor in comparison to Odyssey which had a similar peak CCU.

Ofc, but when ppl play it on a sub its still same revenue, and now subs make bigger %age of players total, but again, i got 0 problem with assuming same revenue as mirage, 250m usd, hell make it 300m usd revenue, thats still very far from game turning profit.
And one more thing- say u are investor and pay 500m usd for the games budget(who knows how much it really was, but lets go with that coz its nice round number), after game is finally out after 5 years u dont want ur 500m back only, u want at least double of that, and not in revenue, u want all ur 500m back asap and on top another 500m usd of profit, preferably most/all of it in launch window, so yup first few monts after game launched, not in another 3 years xD

These Ass Creed games aren't really one and done like those PS3 games were.

Ubisoft's going to be releasing content for the next two years along with added MTX and even after the next game is released, they're likely going to keep releasing content for this peridodically though their broader Infinity project. That's how Valhalla ended up getting more than than previous AC games, that's how this game's trajectory will go.

AC is basically single player live service atp and it's partly why the main plot of shadows feels unfinished (because its made with the idea of ongoing content rather than a proper ending).
What's the over/under on Ghost of Yotei outselling AC Shadows
As I have said, this is a live service game, ghosts of yotei less so.

Also I found this at our wholesome Aliena Analytics (who I think are fairly accurate):
  • Assassin's Creed Shadows has sold around two million copies on PS5, 650 K on Steam, and reached a further 1.1 million players on Xbox (mostly due to Ubisoft+). These numbers are decent, but Shadows has not generated much profit, with revenues at over $180 million. Ubisoft's CEO recently let slip to shareholders that Shadows' budget was over $115 million. We expect it's a lot more than that. Anyway, Shadows has likely broken even now after four months on the market but – sadly – hasn't been the silver bullet Ubisoft needed.

We can assume the rest 1.25 million players are from Ubisoft's own client on PC and largely through their subscription, Ubisoft+. So likely, 3.5 million sales. I expect the budget is around 150-200 million as most blockbuster projects.
It's certainly not the disaster that SW:Outlaws was, and if Ubisoft has learned their lesson of releasing a delayed, polished product (which the CEO has indicated he does) the company will have a better forseeable future.

so u didnt play the game so just shut the fuck up

Deserved. Despite the hate Ubisoft gets and their obvious DEI pander + scummy mtx, Shadows has an incredible atmosphere, one of the best in gaming, besides being a great stealth game, with combat being decent as well. Haters gonna hate.

This isn't "era" go cry over there if you don't like my complaint about Ubisoft inserting agendas and ideologies into games where it really did not benefit the game or the series

Your complaint is stupid and nonesense , i platinumed the game and not ONCE i had any kind of relationship in the game , it was OPTIONAL , which means you dont have to do it if you dont want it.
