PS4 reaches 2m sales in the UK

Sony has been pretty price competitive over in the UK unlike SCEA. I'm sure that has something to do with it.

This I do not understand. Do you say that Sony is not competitive in the US?
I do not think that it would have been reasonable to follow the competition on the highway to madness they were taking last holiday season.

This was originally from the previous week's print edition, it should be through Feb 14th (the latest available tracking week prior to publication).

The latest available tracking week prior to that was April 11th (Week 15). So XB1+PS4 were averaging 23,333 through the first 15 weeks of the year.

"Nearly 3.5 million" should have actually reached 3.5 million by the end of Feb. If the 23,333 weekly average was maintained for the following nine weeks up until last week where PS4 hit 2 million would result in an additional 200k consoles bringing the total to 3.7 million.

1.7 million seem like a reasonable estimate for XB1.

Impressive results for them with the higher initial price point (360 was £279 here for comparison). But they really hit the right notes here. Pretty much all my mates and colleagues who game have got one. Congrats Sony! Keep it up (and fix those digital price plx).

I know there are factors like aggressive pricing to consider, but the fact that the PS4 is selling faster than the PS2 did within the same time period--and the Xbox One approaching PS2 numbers--despite not having a fraction of the same quality of titles (in my eyes) is still insane to me.

I know you're saying it in the perception just from your view, but these sort of comments always make me chuckle a bit.

The quality of titles is largely irrelevant for the huge majority of the buying audience, who pick up their annual titles (CoD, Madden, FIFA, etc.) and that's the extent of their library. I don't buy *any* of those titles, and I'm very much a JRPG person, so this gen hasn't really scratched my itch yet, but I've still had plenty of other games I've enjoyed on my PS4. My PS3 hasn't been turned on since I finished Tales of Xillia 2... and I've got games I haven't finished on it, specifically the KH collections. Now that I know they're coming out on PS4 (as per Kagiri in that thread recently), I am thinking of putting my PS3 away so I can clean up that space a little more.

It's all relative. Having party chat, smoother usage of the system, and access to better versions of games I was already going to get is more than worthwhile for me. The gaming world isn't the same as it was in the PS2 era.

Oh.

His tag read: A poverty of logical thoughts.

Didn't know he was banned.

I'm just joking, I read his tag and the post linked in it before today.

However I didn't see anything wrong in what he said in the post linked in his tag... because I'm also biased against mobile gaming.

I also haven't found smartphone games to be worthwhile but the way he expressed his disappointment/disapproval was rather scatterbrained. Probably why he got that tag.

OMG that had been confirmed by Kagari?!?!?Can you link to the post? YES so fucking excited!!! You made my day dude!

We know that December sales in the UK would likely push that 8.7m towards 9m sold through. As you can see, every market saw higher annual sales in 2014 than in 2013 due to the fact that 12 months were tracked rather than just 2 months. Even markets like France saw sales increase from 126k to 290k. Tier 1 in 2013 saw 610k sales so it's likely that these numbers would have increased as well. But for now lets just calculate the baseline by adding an additional 610k which assumes that all other tier 1 countries did not see any additional sales. This takes our guess total to around 9.6m units sold through. Adding in tier 2, even if we add 20k for each region we still end up with an additional 500k+ sales. Therefore we can say that the baseline for XB1 at the end of 2014 was 8.7m cumulative and the other regions would likely take the total install base to over 10.1m worldwide at a minimum, again by end of 2014. This is a lowball estimate. It would likely have been over 10.1m.

For Q1 2015 we know that the USA sold through 0.66m, Germany sold through 0.05m and it's estimated that the UK could have sold through more than 0.1m. Therefore I would say that sell through for Q1 will be around and most likely over 1m worldwide.

Again, everything in this quote box is a guess, none of it concrete. Do not treat it as such.

Thanks Zhuge! Now to calculate. Please let me know if I have fudged my calculations somehow.

Ok so best estimates place WW XB1 sales at ~11 million. Not concrete numbers but the best we currentky have. U.S. is currently at 6.84 million sales according to your figures here given 11 million sakes WW that leaves 4.16 million left for ROTW so the U.S.:ROTW ratio can be estimated to be around 1.6:1.

Now assuming sales have reached around 12 million WW and recalculating we can sort of get a range of possible ratios. So with 12 million worldwide that leaves 5.16 million for the ROTW sales giving us a 1.32:1 ratio. So the ratio for XB1 sales in U.S. vs rest of the world is somewhere between 1.32:1 and 1.6:1.

The 1.6 million estimation based in the most recent sales total statements out of the UK allows us to estimate US + UK figures so we get 6.84 + 1.6 = 8.44. So at 11 million WW estimation that leaves us with a U.S.+UK:ROTW ratio of 3.29:1. With a 12m WW estimate we get 2.37:1. So the range would be somewhere between 2.37:1 and 3.29:1. So it appears the XB1 receives somewhere between 20% and 30% of its sales from all markets outside of US and UK. That's remarkably low considering the population spread.

That is really a low minimum... I will say it is minimum 11 million sold.
11 million sold through as minimum right now? Sure. 11 million sold through at the end of 2014? No way in Hell. We know the XB1 had reached 10 million shipped in early December. And a very reasonable estimation of shipment numbers by the end of March 2015 is 13 million. From that info, our best bet is that the XB1 shipped 1.2 million units in Q1 2015 (calender year), leaving ~11.8 million units shipped by the end of 2014. And we got info from reliable sources that the XB1 was channel stuffed not only in the US, but other countries as well. So, my estimates put the sold through number at around 10 million by the end of 2014.

Thanks Zhuge! Now to calculate. Please let me know if I have fudged my calculations somehow.

Ok so best estimates place WW XB1 sales at ~11 million. Not concrete numbers but the best we currentky have. U.S. is currently at 9.36 million sales according to your figures here given 11 million sakes WW that leaves 1.36 million left for ROTW so the U.S.:ROTW ratio can be estimated to be around 7:1. Thats nuts!

Now assuming sales have reached around 12 million WW and recalculating we can sort of get a range of possible ratios. So with 12 million worldwide that leaves 2.64 million for the ROTW sales giving us a 3.5:1 ratio. So the ratio for XB1 sales in U.S. vs rest of the world is somewhere between 3.5:1 and 7:1.

The 1.6 million estimation based in the most recent sales total statements out of the UK really don't fit well with the other number estimates for XB1 WW sales. Makes you wonder if we are really off with our figures or if the stated numbers sold for both consoles in UK were somehow exaggerated or misleading in some way.

This is my guess. I don't know why people keep making assumptions that X1s have sold more than that...

I still see Assassins Creed bundles being pushed everywhere so their sold through cannot be great.

Yep, really makes you wonder how much Microsoft overshipped during the holiday season. So my predictions for the end of 2014 would be 11.8 million shipped and 10 million sold through.

what? no, that's absurd, what is going on here

(yes, you have fudged your calculations in a pretty grand manner)

Where exactly? Zhuge stated US sell through was 8.7 million in 2014 and 0.66 million so far in 2015 so adding those two gives us an estimate of 9.36 million.

Oh wait I misread the figures you're right the 8.7 million wasn't US only. Durrrr I'll go back and readjust.

Dude, the XB1's LTD in the US is nowhere near 9.36 million. IIRC, it's 6.84 million by the end of March 2015.

Yes after rereading I see that I misread the figures in the post I'll be readjusting the figures now.

2914? Are you from the future or something?!

Good sales means more support means more games. This gen got off to a rather slow start for me. 1) Consoles weren't super powerful 2) early games still doesn't wow graphically, and 3) taking a while for true next-gen games to show there stuff. Finally starting to see the make-up of this generation though, seems like it'll basically be HD gaming done right lol and the beginnings of VR. Seeing a lot of different experiences coming to consoles, and I'm beginning to feel PS4 might rival PS2 in terms of variety, just need to get Japan back on track.

It's a simple question, I don't follow charts and there's no data about software attach rates and contributing games.

You could have phrased it as "what are the most popular PS4 games over the past few months" and avoided all this grief. That or just mention that you haven't been following sales charts and whatnot.

I believe as of January it had an attach rate of 4.4.

That's pretty good for less than two years in.

Or someone could just answer the question. As nightengale did, sort of.
Weren't there 'platinum' and 'gold' statuses for sales past 500k or something? Or was that not Chart Track.

I believe that's sales awards in Germany.

But the PAL charts threads would give you the breakdown of weekly sales for the systems, as well as discussions of previous titles that have come and gone.

The concern was more from the people coming into the thread like above just to say that there are *no games* or some tripe, and your question could have been misread that way. That's all. Glad it got sorted out.

Except that when mods like Kagari have already voiced their disapproval of people shitposting with "no gamez" in sales threads for the past several weeks, people are perfectly justified with their apprehension of your statement.

Why do these threads devolve so quickly? The "no games" stuff really needs to stop.

What games are they playing?

See how your post could easily be mistaken for a "no gamez" shit-post?
