Actually, those DLC costunes just ended any chance of Splatoon making it in as playable in Smash 4 or Smash 5. Just like Protoman, Monkey, and Vampire Pirate

Pretty much, unless a whole bunch of people add each other and try to play in a random lobby in Regular Battle by joining through each other... but that's assuming rooms aren't immediately filled.

Honestly surprised that custom games are a post-launch feature, it really shows what their priorities were with this game. Still, I'm going to buy it day 1 and enjoy the fuck out of it -- all those FREE updates? That's some serious support, Nintendo really wants this game to do well.

It's an online beta/stress test. Those are usually not available for more than a couple of days.

But he is a playable character. The Mii costumes are likely because the Inklings (if they're DLC) won't be ready in time for the game's release.

Mark my words, in either Smash 4 DLC or Smash 5, we'll get the Inklings.
