Splatoon Direct - 7th May 2015

Worst part is that we are stuck with randoms until August

Good part is that they are actually introducing it

Feels like the full game will arrive in August. But then everything will be available and people should be by level 10

We can still play with friends so we're not stuck with randoms. You'll only be able to organize friend exclusive modes in August.

They're not Mario, Peach, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi, or Zelda. They gonna be rare.

Plenty of other figures besides those were uncommon such as Samus, Fox, Sheik, Toad, etc. Sure, some of them were phased out as time went on, but there was a period when they were easily obtainable.

I think it's just one isn't it?
There are 4 arcade games, the base one, and 3 more that are unlocked through the Splatoon Amiibo.

Personally I like that it is an amiibo exclusive content. it's nothing big, but it basically lets you play a different mini-game during loading screens and stuff.

I've never seen any of them in stores since they were released. Maybe my town is just shit when it comes to Amiibo stock.

If you live in NA, UK and Japan, maybe. If you live anywhere else in the world, they were never easily obtainable.

No private rooms at launch is a death sentence. Good luck having crew battles/clan wars/whatever. It seems like they're going out of their way to make sure it doesn't gain any traction competitively.

At least the game still looks fun. But the $69.99 price tag in Canada is going to be a hard pill to swallow.

Breaking my heart that bonus arcade games will be locked behind out of stock Amiibos wall.

"But Gonzo, it isn't on-disc DLC..."

wait, what? that's kind of fucked if true

so far the content locked behind amiibos have been pretty meaningless. those arcade games are awesome though, especially the rhythm one. if those can't be had without amiibos them I'm going to be kind of mad.

I feel like they really didn't cover that

So you are saying that if you and I want to team up online and play together as a team we can against randoms?

And that we can set up from launch a 4 v 4 gaf room?

I didn't get that from the direct, just that these features will come in August. And even then they technically spoke about private lobbies, meaning everyone will be friends/gaf. It is not certain that even on August we will be able to let's say get 4 people together and team up against randoms

So many questions...

Dude gave Nintendo a break man. They have almost zero third party support, they can't keep a game in dev for a long time to make it feature rich.

We are getting a free Aug update. That is pretty soon after the realease. Just chill and play the game when it is released.

lol wtf is this? smh at "give nintendo a break man"

That was an awesome direct!

I missed a few bits while multi-tasking, so I'll rewatch. Kinda disappointed that the demo doesn't have an offline mode, but I understand they want everyone remain anxious to try it only during stress-test hours. Still, a very limited tutorial mode should at least been available, IMO. Very excited for this game since the first reveal, but now, I can hardly wait. Nintendo has been killing it with absolutely content-rich software this gen!

Also;
Splatoon |OT| All Over Our Faces!

Probably. Honestly, I'd say there's probably been more obtainable amiibos than unicorn rares to be honest. Some do get phased out over time, of course, like Samus and Fox, but there was a point where they weren't very hard to find either in store or online.

Oh, well, that kind of sucks then if those games are actually fun. I'm getting the amiibos myself, so it doesn't affect me much and all, but still, I thought it was just one.

An hour after the Direct and Splatoon continues trending wordwide on twitter! And very high positioned. Wii U saved

If you're in Canada you can still pre-order the triple pack (and Pac-Man!) from Best Buy.

So gooooooood but god damn I don't live in Canada unfortunately :'(

Pre-orders selling out doesn't necessarily mean a figure will be rare.

True. Megaman was selling out everytime on preorders and he end up being a common of wave 3, among with Sanic.

Honestly the gamepad isn't that bad. It's not like its got that different a setup from a normal controller.
I don't like it very much. The awkward position it puts my wrists and the weight of it make it uncomfortable for long play sessions. I also don't like the spacing and how "big" it feels in my hands/lap. I think the thing was a poor concept that has very little application. The battery also dies much too fast. It drags down the experience every time I try using it.

This demo is going to have to blow my socks off for me to buy it with no Pro support.

Wait, I can only play with the Gamepad?

Plenty of other figures besides those were uncommon such as Samus, Fox, Sheik, Toad, etc. Sure, some of them were phased out as time went on, but there was a period when they were easily obtainable.

I live in Mexico, amiibos are never easily obtainable in here.

I just want the inkling girl one fklajdklasjda. :(

I live in the US, and yes, they were. My local Gamestop alone has Sheik, Mega Man, Sonic, Kirby, Toad, along with the ones mentioned, and a lone Samus that's managed to stick around since nearly the beginning. I also bought Fox at my local Wal-Mart well after the wave launched.

Ah. Nintendo charges tax on their digital store. Might as well get the physical edition at Walmart with my employee discount. Lol. Nintendo still doesn't have content linked to accounts really so I rather not go digital anyway.

:( I'd buy all of them (except Kirby and Samus since I have them) if my local stores had them in stock. I refuse to buy from scalpers.

I'd say they're trying to ease people into the game for the long haul, rather than stop people playing
lol

And would you suggest Mario Kart let you race on 3 courses only till it refreshes to play on another 3 courses to ease people into playing?

Let's not forget the countless online multiplayer games in existence.

Technically they do, they just haven't made it as easy to get your stuff back if you move to a new system. You can't just log in and re-download, you have to phone them up.

Cool. As I said, not everyone live in the US and for a big portion of people, amiibos aren't and never were easy to obtain.
Um, which is their age?
14

why not just wait till august to get the game?

lol

God no.

All I'm saying is that these updates every few weeks will bring people up to the same level and potentially prolong the game. I'm not happy with some of it (especially the friend stuff), but I can appreciate the reasoning behind it.

Then don't buy it. Simple. Whether you like it or not this is how it is. Shit happens and they thought this is the best course of action. Release feature light, add more content later on. Buy it in Aug then if you are so offended.

Downloading the Wii U demo now; cool to see Nintendo trying some pre-release stuff. Some of the multiplayer details sound a bit iffy though.

The on-launch mechanics work like a mix of Smash / Mario Kart. You are able to join into any of your friends who are currently playing. Turf War shuffles player teams after each round so you're not guaranteed to be on the same team.

So if GAF wants to organize a game in this kind of system people would have to have have the friend code of anyone who is getting into a game (like Smash). Randoms will most likely be involved but considering that a game wont start without 8 players, in this context its not a huge issue.

But yes, if you are legitimately going to get a full team of 8 (or go 4 with another team) then that won't be available until August. Most likely that will work like MK8's lobby system.

Its a pretty big bummer to wait and I dont like it but considering I've waited over six months for Smash to have tournaments / lobbies and still haven't gotten them, I can wait two months for this considering they're coming out with stuff to increase longevity.

I'd say they're trying to ease people into the game for the long haul, rather than stop people playing

Alright, let me put it in a way that you might understand what he meant.

When you get on Mario Kart 8, and you want to jump straight to online session so you can have fun with your friends. The Server would randomly chose only two tracks for everyone to pick for next 4 hours.

You ended up got stuck with only two choices for 4 hours: Baby Park and ExciteBike Arena.

I'm pretty sure that I have a good idea how quick people would get tired of it and probably give up with games. Having only two tracks per 4 hours would kill online populations pretty bad.

Thankfully that we wouldn't have to deal with that kind of concept in Mario Kart and Smash Bros.
