Looks really fun. I want more info on the friend multiplayer though. Is it 8 WiiU's? 4?

I agree. Amiibo locked content is much worse than the game being released without the ability to play with friends.
Except it's just a bunch of minor inconsequential challenges and a few exclusive gear items.I agree. Amiibo locked content is much worse than the game being released without the ability to play with friends.
It's quite shocking to hear about the price in the US.
I got the special edition with the Squid amiibo and the T-shirt for £40

Ya know, considering that Inklings explode into Ink when they die, this game is... pretty brutal. Ink to them is basically blood.
I don't even understand... they give you a pre-order price incentive for the digital version. But they pack an Amiibo exclusively with a physical special edition?
Just messed up.
nah. the game's done. they've said for a while now that they want to keep peoples interest over time and with Splatoon they try a new way of doing that. with the festivals etc. it's pretty clear that this was a very concious decision.
Not everyone cares about amiibos (Even if their stock makes it seem like everyone on the planet wants the damn things).
Wait, you can't play online with your friends at launch? Is that just 4v4 with just friends or can I straight up not party up with my friend and play against people?
Every player has an individual Wii U, yes.
I don't care about amiibos myself (I care about the content stupidly hidden behind them) but it's backwards to advance towards digital distribution and at the same time not give digital buyers an equal opportunity to get all the shit. Not everyone cares about amiibos (Even if their stock makes it seem like everyone on the planet wants the damn things).
You can't. It's an exclusive one.Yep, especially for a game like this. Having it digitally always ready to play for a very nice price sounds better to me than paying €50+ for an additional amiibo I could get anyway at a later date.
I agree. Amiibo locked content is much worse than the game being released without the ability to play with friends.
Looks rad, but amiibo locked content is fucked.
Did Nintendo explain why the game is considerably more expensive on NA?
Not exactly sure what you mean by that.
I'm hoping they announce a slew of good stuff, but I don't see that happening.
You can play with friends at launch, but you can't choose teams/parties. Teams are shuffled randomly every match so you can't choose if you're playing with or against them.
The ability to form teams with friends comes in an August update
Especially considering how difficult is gonna be to get the damn toys. They sold out everytime preorders appear in any retail website...
AFAIK, you can play online with friends, but not create your own teams until August?
I so want this game to succeed, but 8 WiiU's pretty much ruins the idea of a Splatoon party at my house. I could maybe get 4 together but I bet I'm the minority.
Splatoon will not become the next Mario Kart or Smash Bros without better local support IMO.This is not the Nintendo way.
Except it's just a bunch of minor inconsequential challenges and a few exclusive gear items.
And you can play with friends.
Oh. So the complaints about the game being incomplete until August are even sillier than I thought.AFAIK, you can play online with friends, but not create your own teams until August?
That is one off the issues I have with content locked behind amiibos. What's really ridiculous is that nearly a month out from launch Nintendo hasn't allocated enough inventory for Amazon's site to not say "Currently unavailable". It's obviously going to be business as usual with the lack of availability for these Amiibo.
I didn't get the impression that the game would facilitate playing with friends until August. They didn't specify exactly how you and your friend would end up in the same group.

Yeah they did. You just go to your friends list and choose join game.
Breaking my heart that bonus arcade games will be locked behind out of stock Amiibos wall.Looks rad, but amiibo locked content is fucked.

Eh, I am glad Splatoon is focused on online play. Not being heavy on local support doesn't kill its chances of being the next MK/Smash at all.I so want this game to succeed, but 8 WiiU's pretty much ruins the idea of a Splatoon party at my house. Amazon didn't go up yet. What's really ridiculous is that nearly a month out from launch Nintendo hasn't allocated enough inventory for Amazon's site to not say "Currently unavailable". It's obviously going to be business as usual with the lack of availability for these Amiibo.
Pre-orders selling out doesn't necessarily mean a figure will be rare.
Oh. So the complaints about the game being incomplete until August are even sillier than I thought.
Absolutely this. Gonna spend all that time making my Inkling KawaiiUntil august I will finish the SP and level my squid to the appropriate level, including the super snail that will allow me to her whatever clothes I want. See you complainers in August I guess.
Let's talk about how dumb the online implementation of maps is to make sure people get tired of the game.
You can only play on 2 maps till it is refreshed after 4 hours. Basically, a normal session of playing 1-2 hours doesn't even guarantee that you will get to play on all the maps (only 5 at launch cause the others are more "technical"). Are they trying to get people to stop playing?

Yeah, that sounds perfectly fine to me. More content being added gradually will keep things fresh. You can put it this way: everything we knew about Splatoon before the direct is arriving at May 29th. The new post-release content after that will then be released gradually.
The shirt is available if you buy it from the Nintendo UK store. So most of Europe is in the same position as you are. What the fuck, you guys get a shirt, too? I mean, it's not that great, but I'd totally grab it with a SE or something. I'll never understand...
Yeah this seems dumb too. I misheard it as one hour, which made sense. But four hours? How am I not gonna get bored of two maps for four hours?
