It's near the end on the direct, 2 maps are chosen and they rotate every 4 hours. I just watched it and that made it sounds like you can't just have multiple loadouts since they mention a smart squid will check the maps from the display board and gear up according.
I don't think that's obvious at all. If you for example visit threads like this:

you'll have no trouble finding comments like "the online will die within a month". Rolling out new online features gradually is the wise approach to build a good online user base for a new IP.
Yeah, but you usually do that by releasing a full game's worth of multiplayer content first. If you release it with too little of content, then the online will die anyways because people will get bored with it and not care enough to return for later updates. That's why people are worried, because it seems like this might launch with way too little content.

It's also use to know how much of your ink is covering the map which is the whole point of Splatoon's multiplayer.
I'll tell you, I'm really not that bothered by the DLC release schedule, or any of that. But knowing this game is cheaper in EU kind of put a damper on the day for me. Man, I don't know why, but that just really stings. I know it's only $20 difference, but...man, that bothers me.

Get a refurbished Wii U from Nintendo if you can. Their refurbs are practically pristine. My gamepad didn't even look used. I just got it a couple of weeks ago. Sucks you won't get to play it day 1 but future updates should help keep this from dying.
I really hope I like this game though. Hopefully I'll find out tomorrow.

The game release date have been set several months in advance. The game is clearly finished. The free content that's going to be added later is done on purpose to maintain life in the title, like they did with Mario Kart 8. Exception being the friend matches mode, which is probably something they are adding based on gamers feedback.
It's not $20, it's $15 in RRP and that's only because the shitty exchange rate for now. For years 40 euro were practically $60 and we have bought games at the equivalent of $80. So don't hate us now for 1 game.

Thinking about the "wait" for Ranked Battles to open and it kind of makes a little more sense.
If you have to be Level 10 to even access them there's not really any accounting for how many people will already have it by the time you're possibly done. It's most likely an automatic trigger - probably a quota of 500 players or so, and I can see it being met fairly fast considering the previews mentioned how quickly they leveled up doing regular turf wars.

The whole direct was great but yeah, the single player looks exciting. Hoping it last for a couple hours, at least.

I'm going to be going to a hotel tomorrow before I leave my university to go back to my house for the summer, hopefully the hotel's wifi can handle playing Wii U online lol. I don't think I'll get back to my house in time saturday unless I leave really early.
*sigh*... EB Games Canada tweeted out this. I'd like it but I prefer my discount from another store.
Well it bothers me that for the past DECADES we've been paying about 25-50% more than in the US. I know it's only the equivalent of a few thousand euro's in my case, but... man, that bothers me.

Too much on the PS4 coming, and that could come to let it go. PS+ is a better value to me in the games it has offered, I enjoy the interface more, and there's nothing in XB1's immediate future I want. When the Gears of War 4 bundles hit, I'll scoop one up again I imagine, and at which point the price should be lower anyway.
PS4 has Uncharted 4, Persona 5, and generally the better version of multiplats this gen thus far.
It's all different tastes though. If I was a Forza & Halo head, then I'd be locked in tight.
Wii U needs to be mine ASAP though. This game looks brilliant even with the shortcomings on content.
Still no voice chat. You can play with friends but there is dlc to form groups of 4 or 8 with custom rules.

Because not only it is an unnecessary feature, it is also pretty obvious they are not going to add voice chat to the game only because a few people want it. You can always use skype or something if voice chat is so important for you.

Thanks man. That's really disappointing on the voice chat, the single player parts of this game got me interested but it's not seeming like a "complete package" for multiplayer so I might hold off until a super sale. See what happens. Glad they at least listened about custom lobbies, though is that going to be paid DLC (eww) or free updates?

LOL come on dude. Regardless of your feelings of voice chat, the fact that Nintendo is taking steps to acclimate people to having to teambuild while lonewolfing is proof enough that it's not unnecessary.

The game has an entire post-launch release plan of free maps, gear, modes and such throughout the summer.
That's good. So basically they are rushing the game out but supporting it to try and maintain some good will. I can somewhat get behind that but paying $60 for a not full game feels bad.
And 5 maps, ugh thats really bad. Sorry Nintendo but even as a Wii U owner I won't be getting this game at release. 6 months later... maybe.

But considering how we had similar pricing (in currency terms amounts $40 to 40 euros) for other budget titles like Captain Toad and Kirby, I kind of expect that for Splatoon despite this snarky...rebuttal?
