They are censored too. GOG is the only known option outside of importing the game. Not sure about uPlay or Origin

So what's this http://imgur.com/a/K3uFC bullshit and can someone help debunk it? ("Bla bla game has bad graphics")

I think it's super dumb to compare pics from a different scene. But yeah, there's definitely a downgrade. Maybe they'll add some shit in the 'enhanced edition'.

Speaking of which I bought W1 and 2 off steam (had 2 from gog), and started playing W1. Wow this game is bad haha. I remember enjoying it more a few years ago.

Almost all games are subject to changes like this. They aimed higher than what they were able to achieve in the end on a visual level.

Also comparing Witcher 2's foliage to this game is wholly unfair, as Witcher 3 is a large open world as opposed to Witcher 2, which was a far smaller and more linear game making it easier for them to add fine details like that.

Can't believe people are still analyzing those trailers when there have been hours and hours of footage of actual gameplay since E3 2014.

It's truth, not bullshit.

CDPR said they won't release any ultra settings gameplay before launch, but then confirmed that those gameplays from YTers are on ultra, sometimes with Hairworks off.

Option 1: downgrade, at least comparing the draw distance and LOD, maybe foliage, with Sword of Destiny trailer. That's the only changes that are pretty much indisputable.

Option 2: CDPR doesn't want to show 'REAL' PC ultra settings and this is just what the game will look like on consoles. An elaborate ruse, if you will.

Many people are really butthurt about the downgrade, many don't give a crap, and it's a huge boring circlejerk of people throwing shit at each other for caring or not caring about the graphics.

I'm gonna wait with judging until I launch my PC version and crank everything up to ultra + snoop about in the game files. Maybe some modders will bring back the old draw distance. Either way, I'm not playing this game for the graphics, which are gorgeous anyway, even after the supposed downgrade.

The fact that some direct comparisons elsewhere on the Internet show some areas look BETTER than on previous gameplays, like the cliff from the PAX gameplay demo with the wyvern that was shown later in the gameplay trailer, fills me with some hope about the final build, but all this arguing on the Internet is really annoying, since like 5x more people discuss the gfx of the game than the actual gameplay and story.

The really early stuff was built on the TW2 engine, wasn't it? Not even open-world, really easy to make it look like whatever they wanted. I consider anything from that time period to be nothing more than concept art for all it actually meant in the eyes of the developers.

You can bitch all you want, but not a one of you motherfuckers is actually cancelling any pre-orders. And bitching won't change anything, so what's the fucking point? We've been hearing this shit for way too long now. If you really hate it that much, just don't buy it, shut the fuck up, and let the rest of us enjoy it. Go start your own thread.

I read the other day in another forum (SA) a post made by a dev saying that yeah, they lie when they release trailers. That's marketing for you, the art of lying.

In a way, because they have to. Because the game isn't done two years before the release date, when the marketing need trailers to show off. A real game is barely functional one year before release date, forget about two years before! But people don't really know how video games are done, what is their real aspect a few months before everything starts to fall in place. So when we see a super slick and polished trailer that seems from a finished game like the one at VGX?; yeah that HAS to be fake.

More than a few times developers have been complaining of the numbers of months they have to stop working in the real game, to make the demo needed for the coming E3. That's how, for example, the famous first showing of Bioshock Infinite was done.

You could use nicer words, but I agree. I can't believe people still believe marketing reveal trailers and scream downgrade close to a games release.

You're right. Because I didn't pre-order.

It's wonderfully freeing.

In other words it was likely a target render using in-game assets. Nothing wrong with devs doing that, for me, I don't really care about downgrades if the game is still gorgeous. And Witcher 3 is gorgeous and will probably run infinitely better than if it had those visuals from the 2012 trailer. And for all we know that's what it looks like maxed out on PC with every single bell and whistle and perfect lighting. There also was a shift in the art style from photorealism to something a little more stylized.

If the footage we are seeing is a downgrade, then what a glorious looking downgrade it is. Everything I am seeing is leading me to believe that this is going to be one of the most fantastic open world games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. But perhaps that is because I am a low standard peasant who will be playing on PS4. Better yet, maybe the game actually looks that fucking good.

This is the most disappointing one by far for me because the atmosphere is significantly changed in a worse direction:

I remember very clearly seeing the top scene and being incredibly impressed at the time. Galloping through a beautiful hilly wheat field, with cottages and smoke rising in the distance...

Only to be replaced by generic and bland scenery that looks identical to many different areas in the game. That's actually kind of a huge bummer.

I cannot even fathom anyone thinking this game has bad visuals. With the use of color, the lighting and weather effects? Those detailed character models? Good god, what do you expect? They had to optimize the game and the end result is still more than enough to leave you gobsmacked.

did they claim the footage from the trailers was done on consoles?

i can understand the lack of polish on the small scale considering the game is fucking massive as well.

I dunno. The colors seem so different. I liked the previous color scheme much more tbh.
Its all so colorful now.

It doesn't have bad graphics but it does have worse graphics.

Changes happen in order to get everything running smoothly. And the end result is still one of the most gorgeous open worlds ever. That coupled with running good = a win for us all.

I agree! This is a real bummer! Dont get me wrong the game still looks good but to the people that said, no there is no downgrade must be blind. Devs need to fucking stop false advertising their games.
