Saints Row 2, Saints Row 3, Metro: LL Redux, Darksiders 1+2 out on GOG. SR2 works now

For those who always wanted a competently working version of SR2, you finally have it.

EDIT 2:
Just tried it for myself. It does indeed seem to be locked to 30FPS. It drops occasionally but mostly holds up. The other performance issues do appear to be fixed. 30FPS can be a tough pill to swallow, but it's definitely a huge step up from what it was before.

EDIT:
We have confirmation that it is, at the very least, vastly improved and playable, even if it's not perfect. Once I have some time I'll download and post my impressions as well.
Just played the first mission and made sure to get a good look at the city to make sure everything was rendering.

I can safely say it's gone from the worst PC port of all time to a rather average one. I'm not sure if it's something I have enabled or a part of the game now, but it seems to be capped at 30FPS. On the other hand though, it holds that 30FPS very well, and while there are occasional drops for me, the stuttering and horrible performance seem to be gone.

The radio is still horrible quality, but it seems that there are mods to fix that (although with the changes made, mods might not work for now). Also, I didn't know this game had proper headlight shadows from cars. Very nice feature for something from 2008, and I can actually appreciate it now that it functions.

How good is this treatment of SR2?

I know that the port was made by CDPR so they'd probably have access to the source to do a lot, but I want to know how much it's improved.

I feel like I'm the only one that played SR2 with Gentlemen of the Row mod. Absolutely zero problems with that setup.

Everytime I tried, it crashes to desktop about 2 minutes into the second story mission. I'd love to be able to use some of the mods from that in this build though.

Someone already posted a review on SR2, cool of them to do considering they haven't even tried this improved version:
Own both versions (from xbox360 and PC) of this game ... and i must say Pc users got f***ked hard , simple pixel shader effects are missing , models are low polygon , not to mention the micro stutter this game has and horrible memory leaks that make this PC port crash ... avoid this version like FIRE

Is the performance patch similar to what was officially done with patching RFG? The user made patch to try and stabilize the game never worked well for me

IIRC, the original port was made so that the closer your specs were to the 360's the better it ran.
This is true, essentially making it run better on low-mid end CPUs than high end ones. It's silly, basically when my CPU uses its boost function and jumps to 3.8GHz, it makes it run worse than if it was running at stock, 3.4GHz.

I'm downloading the new version now and it's almost done, I'll give you guys a real verdict.

It still had some occasional crashes, but it was definitely playable.

Hopefully all these changes get backported to the Steam version eventually. There really ought to be parity on these.

Darksiders games run fine on PC, from what I recall they didn't exactly push hardware or such, and can run butter smooth at 60 FPS on max settings.

i like how someone kneejerk-reaction posted a review of SR2 on GOG saying how horrible the PC version is!!

did the person even read anything or just went "ITS SHIT I GOTTA TELL THE WORELD"? or was it to get the first review in and then edit in the changes later? some people go hard for first post i guess

Nice of them to fix up SR2, but seeing as how I already own it on Steam I'd like to see the update being applied to that version in the near future also.

To be fair....the original port is in the running for the worst port ever made. Probably just had a flashback.

SR2 has worked for years, if Gentlemen of the Row mod was applied.

Still nice to see DRM-free official version of course.

I just finished Saints Row 2 and it's still great. The best Saints Row game will have Saints Row 3's game play with Saints Row 2's story.

It was Porting House, part of CDP that is responsible, not CDPR. And Porting House staff (eg. GOG CEO) later moved to a new company called GOG.

Really hope they bring these fixes for SR2 over to Steam. I already own the Steam version, I'd prefer to not buy it again for a "fixed" version.

Not sure what fixes everyone's talking about, I can't even maintain 30fps on a fucking 970.

ÂŁ2.79 down the drain I guess :(

EDIT: turns out forcing vsync through the Nvidia control oanel was dausing the FPS drops. I get a solid 30 fps now.

I have had no problems with SR2 on Steam once I switched to an Intel processor. Originally, with the AMD processor the game would run extremely fast, while throttling would give inconsistent results. Still I usually find GOG's versions to be more stable all round

Check your Steam messages! I think I still might have posted this first though...

I see how it is, man. The couch means nothing to you. :(

(As a side note, this just makes me sad that there won't be a Darksiders 3)

Can finally play sr2 without issues. I beat it once with the steam and it was horrible. Played 3 euros for it in GoG, becuase why the fuck not.

EDIT
Just downloaded GoG Galaxy, and why is adding friends such a clusterfuck? Really, looking for a review or forum post of your friend?
I just tried to right a review for RCT3 Platinum, so my friend could add me, and now it doesnt appear. Good god CDP, this is worse than nintendo friend codes.

Downloading SR2 now, will let y'all know how it is. Noticed on the store page, multiplayer is only supported via LAN now, so I guess for online you will need some extra software to do it that way.

Beta. Their current implementation is based on the forum back end.

I'm sure it will improve.
