Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

those character designs ... uh

anyway the "design an enemy/secret room" tiers are pretty cool, Gaf should do another kickstarter collaboration sometimes

You know what would be interesting, A Igavania game, that has layered 2D maps.

Like maps on top of maps

Like in Valkyrie Profile for example

Instead going into room after room traversing left or right, there were also doors into the background and foreground you could go into and it would be it's own separate map layer.

I would have liked another 2D game to use this style of exploration / map progression.

Yeah but the in-game art doesn't match the boxart for that game at all. I don't give a shit what the box art looks like since that's not what I'm looking at after the first minute.

Really? I thought the boxart was right in line with the games art

I meant the art style of the actual sprites.

The sprites for this game look like a flash anime game, the sprites for past Castlevania games don't.
You simply don't see what they look like because they are that low-res.

They are a faithful representation of the anime style of the game at very low fidelity.

It should be noted that, had they had the resolution to do so, the sprites would look more like the box art.

I love the concept art so far, but I'm a bit bummed that it's stating 2.5D and that there's no short gameplay teaser.

Alas, I'm a sucker for "Igavania" and am currently trying to shove my wallet through my monitor.

Noooooooooooooooo. Nope. Nope. nooonononononono.

No.

I remember them having a very similar style to the games that were character designed by Kojima.

You know, I'd be much more willing to support these Kickstarter projects if developers didn't just make spiritual successors to the games they are famous for, just with the names changed to avoid copyright infringement.

I can't wait for Kojima to begin crowdsourcing his first post-Konami project, a cinematic stealth action game where you play as a rugged American spy named Firm Salamander.

Maybe it's just me, but not really feeling the choice of protagonist, it'd be one thing if she actually looked like a fighter, but it's another to have her dressed in skimpy schoolgirl looking anime outfits, just doesn't "fit" right to me.

Look at the Belmonts/Arucard, they always looked like they fit, like they were hunters vampires that came prepared in the context of the game.

This character looks like a generic anime schoolgirl that doesn't seem to fit within the context of the game world and what she's doing.

Just not a huge fan of over sexualized female protagonist that look out of place.

Still hope those that are helping get it funded enjoy it.

I dunno man, that image is giving me flashbacks to daggerfall's maps.

Since it's Unreal Engine 4, surely someone will mod the "sprite" of characters and enemies into things you want.

But that's exactly why most people do support them.

Mighty No. 9 raised 3 mil? Damn. DAMN.

I know right? I have no idea where that money actually went. Because that screenshot ain't tellin me anything.

Armchair analysts pretending to know how much games cost to make are a staple of every KS thread.

This is the risk you take putting your game on KS and pretending to make people feel they're involved.

They're going for Shanoa 2.0 there but Shanoa did look better than this.

This is looking and sounding awesome. Co-op shall be wonderful and I'm curious to see what the pvp is like.

Very excited to have you back, Igarashi.

There's just one thing that WE NEED to make sure before they go ahead:

What game they are striving to achieve (as in what 2.5D they'll try to make this game look like). It's a simple question and they can answer.

Did you play Batman Blackgate? It wasn't quite like that...but it was sort of similar iirc, and it was pretty bad to navigate.

2.5D? Concept art only? Oh...

I mean I love Castlevania, and I love IGA, but I can't get myself to pledge on this this early in the game. Hope it turns out good, though...

Mighty No. 9 raised 3 mil? Damn. DAMN.

More like over 4 million:

The pledging campaign ended on October 1, 2013, raising $3,845,170 in total and becoming the then sixth most funded project in Kickstarter history (as of July 2014, it is eighth). An additional $201,409 obtained via PayPal increased the total money collected to $4,046,579, contributing to the achievement of all the stretch goals announced.

This is quite literally my dream game. Like, I envisioned a game that I wanted to make, some day, as a pipe dream sort of project, that worked like contra but as a metroid style game, and had multiple map layers. I remember it like it was yesterday but I came up with that concept like 12-13 years ago.

ideas are cheap, implementation is expensive.
