I'm guessing I should play Symphony of the Night now, right?
Yes, you should.

Well, exactly. You probably won't have that luxury with higher resolution 2.5D art.The limitations of a low-res 2D sprite game.

Or grown men who wear John Cena gear. Both are deplorable.
You're not getting avatar quoted in here, brother!
Looks like poo for a game that raised 3 million dollars.
Yeah but the in-game art doesn't match the boxart for that game at all. I don't give a shit what the box art looks like since that's not what I'm looking at after the first minute.
You simply don't see what they look like because they are that low-res.I meant the art style of the actual sprites.
The sprites for this game look like a flash anime game, the sprites for past Castlevania games don't.

You know what would be interesting, A Igavania game, that has layered 2D maps.
Like maps on top of maps
Like in Valkyrie Profile for example

Instead going into room after room traversing left or right, there were also doors into the background and foreground you could go into and it would be it's on separate map layer.
Now can we have someone make a gif of Iga saying that?
this is so perfect for a text swap..

They are a faithful representation of the anime style of the game at very low fidelity.

Mighty No. 9 raised 3 mil? Damn. DAMN.Looks like poo for a game that raised 3 million dollars.
Maybe it's just me, but not really feeling the choice of protagonist, it'd be one thing if she actually looked like a fighter, but it's another to have her dressed in skimpy schoolgirl looking anime outfits, just doesn't "fit" right to me.
Look at the Belmonts/Arucard, they always looked like they fit, like they were hunters vampires that came prepared in the context of the game.
This character looks like a generic anime schoolgirl that doesn't seem to fit within the context of the game world and what she's doing.
Just not a huge fan of over sexualized female protagonist that look out of place.
Still hope those that are helping get it funded enjoy it.
But that's exactly why most people do support them. You know, I'd be much more willing to support these Kickstarter projects if developers didn't just make spiritual successors to the games they are famous for, just with the names changed to avoid copyright infringement.
3 million dollars (minus fees & reward expenses) is a pretty modest XBLA game budget. It's not this huge amount.

Armchair analysts pretending to know how much games cost to make are a staple of every KS thread.
those character designs ... uh
They're going for Shanoa 2.0 there but Shanoa did look better than this.Maybe it's just me, but not really feeling the choice of protagonist, it'd be one thing if she actually looked like a fighter, but it's another to have her dressed in skimpy schoolgirl looking anime outfits, just doesn't "fit" right to me.

I would have liked another 2D game to use this style of exploration / map progression.

The pledging campaign ended on October 1, 2013, raising $3,845,170 in total and becoming the then sixth most funded project in Kickstarter history (as of July 2014, it is eighth). An additional $201,409 obtained via PayPal increased the total money collected to $4,046,579, contributing to the achievement of all the stretch goals announced.
