Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Does anyone know if the physical edition will only be available through the kickstarter?
It's covered in the FAQ

WHY IS THE DISC $60?

The Kickstarter edition of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night won't be sold at retail. It comes in an exclusive slipcase and it's preloaded with backer-exclusive content—the Swordwhip, the only weapon powerful enough to unite Teams Sword and Whip, and a super-secret boss who you'll have to foil to earn it.

I know it's a long shot, but I really hope the publisher ends up being Koei/Tecmo.
That's one of the few multiplatform ones that I trust to do the right thing in the end.

Is there any chance Iga will read the feedback and bring back Kojima for the artstyle or at least make it darker than the current "anime style"?

Yeah, that current style won't change, however, it's possible we could get some bonus art from Kojima-san for the artbook, or unlockable within the game as a late backer goal.

This part makes me think it's getting a retail release.

I don't think they'll change the overall character design, but I do think that just making it darker is something that could definitely happen if there's a demand for it.

How about you read the FAQ? They wanted her but she's not available, unfortunately.

Cheers mate. Didn't realise there was a FAQ at the bottom as I work the graveyard shift (midnight to 8am) and it's now 10am here and the light is hurting my eyes. Hopefully this means they will go for a darker tone than the current teasers suggest.

This is pretty cool. Tempted to back but seeing as it's already smashed its goal I'll probably just wait. Should hit that David Hayter goal soon.

I like the art they've shown so far.

Now the people that want a physical copy have to ask themselves if they are willing to take a risk in not backing for a physical copy and potentially miss out on a physical copy on the slim chance that they may print 2nd edition physical copies based on a weirdly worded FAQ?

Because while I haven't backed this yet I do plan to later on and you can bet I'm not taking a chance so I will be aiming for the $60 tier.

Hmm, still not sure if it'd be smart for me to back this or not. I mean, I'm pretty hyped for this but $28 for a digital version is more than I expected from a kickstarter project. Plus I'm getting shades of Mighty No 9 with the whole "concept art that looks like screenshots but no actual screenshots" thing (and then reading Inti Creates will be developing this one too). Might be better if I just wait until the game launches first and see if it's actually any good first before parting with any cash.

It's reached funding. If you have doubts, then do just what you said. The game is going to be made. Win/Win.

I think that the Kickstarter page makes it abundantly clear that there will be a general retail release of this game but that the Kickstarter Edition has a few additional perks.

Ugh. This or Yooka-Laylee.. :(. I really want dat physical box
The right answer is both but if you can only choose one I say this Kojivania game since Yooka-Laylee already has enough funding and I have strong doubts they will hit that last (ambiguous) stretch goal anyways.

I finally checked back in, and it's waaaaaayyyyyy past the goal already.

I didn't know the thirst was that real. Out of curiosity, what is the reason?

People really like IGA's games, for one.

People also resent the way Castlevania was managed after IGA's departure and Konami's actions in general, and I'm sure that's fueling a lot of people. They're giving money to IGA to spite Konami, just as they gave money to Inafune to spite Capcom.

I'm not sure if I like the Kickstarter edition having the kind of exclusive content that it says it has.

I like it a lot, because you're giving them your money when the KS closes in 32 days instead of waiting until it's released to buy it. You're basically loaning Iga the money to help him make the game, it's almost a crowd-publishing strategy at this point because he already has some funding secured pending proof of demand for the final product. As someone who's helping publish the game, it's plenty fair that you get something over a person who wait until it's released and buys it then.

As someone trying to get a product off the ground now, trust me, they do. Just because they have "secured other funding" doesn't mean that they have people who will actually give them the money. What they have is people who will give them the money if they prove actual, monetary demand. An email list or petition wouldn't be enough. They would need cash pre-orders, and Kickstarter campaign is a great way to raise that

Yeah, I really have no issues with this. 10,000 people throwing down 800k shows that folks are willing to go out and buy the end product.

So what to folks think of the concept art? I'm sure things will change, but I don't like the coloring style shown in the pictures. It makes it look really cluttered and busy. Everything sticks out too much.

I'll hold off on any solid critiques until we see something a little more corporeal, but as a conceptual "vision" those screens are a bit of an eyesore.

Still gonna back when I have the cash.

This kickstarter has some staying power with the pace its pretty good. Think it beat Mighty No 9 first day numbers. I think 9 released late and got split into two days but combined i think it might be less.
